Dallas Swing Dance Society

The social dances are about the most fun thing I do. They offer some workshops on Saturdays before the social dance. Some of their instructors are great, some I just can’t follow. But each of us connects with and learns from different types of people, so that’s to be expected.

I am so surprised that the Dallas Swing Dance Society doesn’t have its own page on Unilocal yet! But then again, I didn’t find out about it until two weeks ago.
Every Saturday, the Dallas Swing Dance Society gets together at the Sammons Center for the Arts (

You really don’t have to go with a partner for the dance lessons because they make you switch partners after every few minutes. But if you’re a guy, you’re going to have to do a lot of asking after the lessons are over. As a girl, the regulars were really nice about asking me to dance, but that’s only based on one personal experience.
The teachers were really patient. They really do assume that you know nothing about swing dancing, so come on out even if you’ve never done it before!
Dress code is wear whatever you want (I’m being serious… you’ll see a lot of diversity in clothing there), but try to wear shoes that are flat and can slide on wood floors. Girls, dancing in heels is not fun and all the regulars wear Keds anyways, so its socially acceptable to wear comfy shoes.
