I’m thinking I caught them at an off time, close to the end of the Frisco StrEATs festival, at which point maaaaaybe it’s excusable for their product not to be at its freshest. However, one would think measures would be taken to ensure that cupcakes sold at the end of a 6-hour event should be just as fresh as those sold at the beginning. Just sayin’. Only four flavors were left when we visited this truck toward the end of the festival. Hubs got a lemon cupcake, parents shared chocolate salted caramel of some sort, and I selected birthday cake. My parents enjoyed theirs, but hubs thought his was just okay. Mine featured dry cake and semi-hard frosting that was WAY too sweet. I know it’s frosting and that it’s supposed to be sweet, but it tasted like pure sugar. Very disappointing. The cupcakes were a decent size and cleverly sold in individual styrofoam cups with lids, which made for easy, mess-free transportation. But for me, that was as far as the positives went. Wouldn’t try them again.

I was really hoping for something rich, chocolatey, moist and decadent but as I took each bite off my cupcake I could not find what I was looking for. Needless to say the cupcake was dry, frosting was hard and it did not leave me wanting for more. The one good thing about the cupcake is that it was not TOO sweet. Not sure if I caught them on their off day but this was at the Denton food truck festival.

I used Cup Cakin back in May for our company picnic and was very disappointed. They were 45 minutes late to arrive at the event and no apology was given. The girl working the truck opened the back doors and put the cupcakes out on the hot concrete so people could get their own. Who does that in Texas where on the hottest days you can fry and egg on the sidewalk?!? Can you say melted icing?!? Who wants a cupcake that looks nasty? Anyone? I paid good money for these and did not get the service or the product. Plus the girl working the truck was rude! I also had over 100 cupcakes left that I had to do something with since they were already paid for. I played phone tag with the owners to try and get them to rectify the situation. They first offered me 2 dozen free cupcakes and finally apologized for how the event was run. I declined the 2 dozen cupcakes because I already had 100 to still go through. The last we left it was me leaving a voice mail for the wife of the couple that owns it and never hearing back from her. They got their money so they could care less! I would recommend using anyone else but them. Plus the cupcakes had too much Crisco in the icing…

I’ll be honest up front: The only reason for my four star review is that the cupcakes are a little small for the price, but I understand that they’ve got to make money, and making a larger cupcake often results in them being dry on the outside if they’re just right on the inside. We visited Cup Cakin during Truckstock at Sylvan Thirty recently, and I had a chocolate salted caramel cupcake like the one in Tommy H.‘s picture. The frosting and drizzles were fantastic in flavor and smoothness, with the perfect amount of salt to offset the sweet. The cake itself was very moist and rich, making it a perfect little«bundle of joy». Definitely try this place out if you see it parked somewhere!

I was so happy that this truck was in the Dallas Arts District today! Been checking out the pics on their FB page and had to wipe away a little drool. But that’s the sweet tooth in me. I purchased a cute little cookies & cream cupcake. A little smaller than I expected and I thought there would be more cookie crumbles than cookie dust, but my dismal view was revived when the first piece hit my tongue. Although cookie crumbles would have added to the concept of «cookies & cream», the lack thereof did not negatively affect the deliciousness of this dessert. The icing was very light and fluffy and pleasantly sweet. The cupcake was moist and semisweet which paired well with the icing. It was a wonderful delight and I will definitely be back for more!

Found Cup-Cakin at Dallas Arts District today and picked up a German Chocolate cupcake. The cake was moist and delicious with an appropriate German’s chocolate base with a chocolate butter cream frost and a dollop of homemade coconut pecan frosting. My friend got the chocolate peanut butter cup. He also found them a bit small, but said the flavor was good.

Very yummy cupcakes! We tried to go to Sigel’s Thursday night, but they weren’t there… even though their schedule at the beginning of the week said they would. We tried again this morning at the Arts District and were so glad they were there! The cookies ‘n cream & salted caramel cupcakes are quite tasty and reasonably priced too. We’ll be back!

So I was super excited to try these cupcakes because I’ve been seeing the truck for awhile now. I probably got ahead of myself with the whole«if it comes off a food truck it HAS to be good, right?» mentality. First of all, it’s just a dude sitting inside a truck. I was imagining little elves whistling while they worked on my sweet treats. Sugar, frosting, glitter, rainbows and all that shit, you know? The cupcakes are packaged individually in a styrofoam mini bowl & plastic top. Beyond boring. The whole appeal of grossly overpaying for a cupcake is that it comes in a freakin cute ass package, ok? And that you didn’t have to bake the damn thing yourself. So I tried a strawberry lemon, red velvet & vanilla cupcake for $ 8. The cake part was gummier than Gumbo on a humid day. The frosting tasted like it came straight out of a jar, in fact I think it might be Betty Crocker Whipped Delight Frosting. They’re also on the smallish side. Maybe they were just having a bad day because the only other review for them is a 5-star. The cupcakes weren’t disgusting, they just weren’t what I was expecting.

Bummed I couldn’t use the check in feature due to being too far from its location… when the location moves. I am just glad that there is such thing as a food truck and that there is one devoted to cupcakes and that I could experience it. For $ 3 I got a carrot pumpkin cupcake. Amazing. I like carrot cake and I like pumpkin anything so this was the best of all worlds. They had cupcakes for $ 2.50 and $ 3.00 and had more conventional flavors as well such as chocolate, chocolate vanilla, red velvet, chocolate peppermint, etc. No complaints from anyone.
