There is no question that Dr. Cheatum is the best rheumatologist in Dallas. Maybe Texas. He’s been in practice for more than 50 years. Warning to new patients: He will only see you at 3 or 4am. Seriously. Get ready. And you will be there for a full four hours while he interviews you in his office and then examines you in an exam room. You will give a urine sample, give blood samples, and have x-rays taken. Then you will follow up with him a few weeks later. This guy is serious about helping people but he knows how to weed out the crazies and the hypochondriacs. Also be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait some more. So bring a good book.

Dr. Cheatum was once an Army officer, and it shows in the way he runs his practice. He has spoiled me for other doctors, because his staff seldom makes a mistake or runs late. Simply, he is the best rheumatologist in Texas, and people come from all over the Southwest to see him. Moreover, he is the reason I am still walking and working 20 years after I was in so much pain I thought I needed to take a disability. People don’t like finding out they have rheumatoid arthritis and they sometimes project that on to the doctor. Cheatum treats patients as if they are adults, not children. It would be easy for a new and vulnerable patient to mistake his efficiency and directness for a lack of compassion, but it would be wrong. Only someone called to the profession would work the number of hours he does, and take the time to help them beat a really unbeatable illness. Twenty years later, I wouldn’t see anyone else.

I went to this doctor because I was referred by several other people who were misdiagnosed by other doctors before seeing him. He definitely is intelligent. He is unfortunately a doctor that wants you to follow his treatment plan. He is likely to recommend medications only. I am looking for a more holistic treatment plan because I was only 30 when diagnosed with a form of rheumatoid arthritis and I don’t want to take medications forever. I was placed on maintenance medications, but stopped taking it because I felt more ill. He doesn’t necessarily offer many more options besides medicine. Therefore I have selected another doctor who will approach my needs differently. He deserves 4 stars because I think you will get an accurate diagnosis, and thorough evaluation!

Dr. Don Cheatum diagnosed me in 1991 with psoriatic arthritis. He’s been treating me ever since and I would recommend him to anyone who suffers from arthritis. He is extremely thorough and precise. Very dry since of humor, so it’s my husbands goal every eight weeks when I go in for check ups, to make him laugh!!! Aubrey always makes him laugh! Seriously, Dr. Cheatum is a top notch rheumatologist!

No problems, I recommend Dr. Cheatum. Been going here for years. Even if the one bad review. «That person probably mislead himself believing it was something else. Or the person is lying about it.» But any how I recommend it.
