I’ll keep this short. I called and was told my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I get there and find no Caribbean grill, but a southern folks grill instead. I called the Unilocal number, but it redirected me to an answering machine for another business. Pretty weird considering that I just spoke to someone. Anyway, went inside SFG and they knew nothing about a Caribbean spot. Got back into my car, drove around confused. Went back to SFG and I asked if I placed an order for oxtails. They said yes, then told me they haven’t started yet. Waited for 15 minutes. Paid $ 18 for I kid you not, SIX of the toughest oxtails I have ever eaten. I’m literally about to drive to Elaine’s right now as I type this.

Excellent now– had gone about 3 yrs ago and thought, meh. Got Groupon so gave it another shot — greatly improved in terms of food quality, quantity and taste. They always had prompt friendly service even though the location both inside and out is pretty scary– single ladies might want to go in with a bro. Had tasty, spicy but not hot, goat curry with spinach and black beans and rice! Beef patty and escoveiched talapia to start. Hubby got jerk chicken(yummy with lots of sauce on the side) with red beans and rice and tomato/onion salad. Interestingly this salad was quite different from the onion salad of the talapia. Every dish was unique and perfectly flavored — if u need heat ask for the hot sauce. Need to try out AI in 2015 — every Sat. Buffet, DJ and well drinks for a fixed price.

Stopped by on a business trip and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The place is a hangout for people seeking a particular feel but I was there for the food. Food tasted pretty authentic(great sauce with the jerk chicken). Veggies sides were flavorful. Spices were well used and level of spiciness was«adjustable» and can also be requested at ordering. I’ll come back. Also good reggae music is a nice feel to relax. I think they have a full bar but I stuck to ginger beer. ;-)

Haven’t been here in a while. I miss it! Still looks the same and food is still good. Got the caribbean medley and bread pudding. Oxtails were great on flavor but not much money was spent on them. Had more fat and less meat. Jerk chicken breasts had a great coating of the jerk flavor but the meat dried out after it cooled down. Stewed chicken was the best. They left the bone-in which I believe retains more flavor in the pot. Now the bread pudding… was moist. Didn’t have much flavor to it and the sauce was ok. Overall, I will just stick to the stewed chicken and the jerk chicken wings. And«yes» the customer service is low level unless you are willing to initiate the conversation yourself.

This place has always had poor service, but today I decided to go anyways since the«The Island Spot» great place was already closed for the day. I’m 6 months pregnant and was having a craving for jerk chicken. There were only two other parties when I arrived. Within a few minutes after arriving, I had to waive down the waitress to let her know I was there. I got my drink and appetizer shortly after. I waited and waited for my entrée. The waitress, never checked on me, refilled my drink or came to apologize for the wait. After almost 30 minutes, I got up and went to the register to pay and soon as I gave her my cc, kitchen bell rang and waitress told me my order was ready«If you still want it?» I said no thanks and paid for my drink and appetizer. I never got an apology. Lack of common courtesy! No jerk chicken for me and my baby. Thanks a lot !!!

Wow! Loved it. The flavor was great, the service was great! We came here because we had a groupon but we would pay full price and more, any day! We ordered the Jamaican beef patties as appetizers and they were delicious. We also ordered the medley for two with curry goat and ox tail, rice beans and spinach. Holy cow! I mean, the meat falls off the bone and the flavors are amazing!!! The only thing is the drinks are a bit small for the price, but other than that wow! We even had bread pudding, and it is the most amazing one I’ve ever had. A must try!

Mediocre food. Went for lunch buffet. They had jerk chicken, fried chicken, curry chicken, stew chicken, fish fry, brown and white rice, macaroni cheese, bread pudding and fried plantains. all food tasted old was not fresh. jerk chicken was ok, dry with medium to less spicy. fish was not crispy and was cold. Bread pudding was stale and tasted putrid. Later the owner came up and apologized after we informed the waiter.

Food is good, we ordered the Caribbean medley plate. It was yummy. The service is not that good, but i cant complain, it is just OK. The environment is sad… place is very dark but they have a big patio, I guess that will make it work.

This is only a review of the BREADPUDDING. I’m a fool for a GOOD bread pudding! Those who love this dessert fall into two distinct camps. I love my pudding with the bread on top crusted crispy brown then, when it’s SPOONed to serve, that top yields a somewhat creamy(not runny!) breaded custard below, ahhh absolute heaven! Others prefer their pudding firm enough to SLICE :-| The bread pudding at the Caribbean Grill goes beyond firm. It’s an unappealing bread ‘brick’ of a dessert; extraordinarily unappetizing. As a person of the Caribbean* it was VERY disappointing to have a restaurant representing the cuisine, serve up such a tastless pudding. * OK, Belize is geographical in Central America, but it is primarily Caribbean in culture. This is the only legit Caribbean restaurant I have been to in the Dallas area. I can’t say that I have covered them all but there are two others I hear about and have been to that lack the consistency of Caribbean Grill. Now the only problem is that you better call ahead if you have a favorite dish because it isn’t always in stock — but what’s new with most Caribbean restaurants(-; Oh yeah — and who orders jerk chicken and complains it is spicy? Isn’t that the whole purpose? And they do it fabulously maintaining flavor and moistness.

So came here with my MIL(mother in law) for lunch with her groupon and it was okay. The chicken curry in my opinion was better than their jerk chicken. And I had I think it was goat curry was not bad either. Oh right we had their buffet for $ 11 The food was good/decent but nothing to go crazy about These are things that were just okay: pretty terrible lighting, like dark! the food wasn’t hot, hot just warm… the soda was $ 3!!!

Food is flavor packed & authentic. I’ve gone for the buffet & the selection was nice both times although there were no oxtails last time. The atmosphere is a little too dark with low music playing in the background(music is nice). It could benefit from more lighting in the dining & buffet area. Luckily I come for the food so I’m not overly concerned with the atmosphere. It’s not fancy but it’s authentic. I would definitely recommend the restaurant, particularly the buffet because you can try mostly everything on the menu, which is a great savings over ordering just one entrée. Buffet is just under $ 13.

My man and I dropped in during our weekly comic book run to try Caribbean Grill’s buffet. Weekend buffet priced reasonably at $ 12.95, and the buffet options did not disappoint. We sampled jerk chicken, goat curry, stewed chicken, fried chicken, fried fish and veggie/starch options such as sauteed cabbage, steamed broccoli and carrots, plantain chips, rice and beans. Everything we tried had that homemade quality that we looked forward to and appreciated. And for the chili-heads(like me) flavor skewed toward the spicy end of the scale without sacrificing taste. Service was friendly and accommodating, and when quizzed our hostess/server was able to explain the recipes to us. The space was plain but functional, and we could see it easily converted from casual dining to entertainment space during the evening. The reggae music playing in the background put as in the mind of a tropical island retreat; a vacation we were willingly glad to take. Our meal at Caribbean Grill satisfied greatly, making it the highlight of our day. We promised to be back.

To be clear, this we had their lunch buffet so this review would be for that. We had their lunch groupon that was available and went in hoping to be able to use that on their buffet. They gave us no trouble with the groupon and said we could definitely use it for the buffet. Our first pass of the buffet had much of the food looking picked over and not a lot of solid looking options. We went ahead and got what things were available and sat at our table. We were surprised to find that much of the food wasn’t even really hot and that it was barely warm. The food certainly had flavor and was decent but wasn’t very warm. After we had been there a while and had almost filled up anyway they came out and stocked it with fresh food. We at least looked at it and it appeared the refills were probably hotter/fresher so they may have been better. The buffet itself though wasn’t very big though it was decent in terms of options however I also had some concerns about cleanliness of the buffet. One pass through many of the serving spoons were laying completely in the food making it not only impossible to get it out without getting food on your hands but it also meant that the piece where people hold them was also laying in the food. Really, overall, I think the food probably could have earned a 3 had we gone through when it was more fresh but the atmosphere leaves a little to be desired. We went in around 2pm and the place was very dark and not very busy. There is a big stage where a band could perform but nothing was going on this afternoon. They also appear to have a full bar and it looks like the place could have quite the nightlife at night(hours advertised being open to 2am). Overall, it was ok but we probably wouldn’t go back based on our experience. We were disappointed.

This is just about the lunch buffet. Not evening or weekend service. Just the buffet. Not being from the island, I can’t say if this is authentic food, but if the real deal is better, I gotta go there. I’ve been there twice now and love it. To start with, the buffet is very generous! Among other things, there was jerk chicken, fried chicken, a stewed chicken, oxtail, goat, a spinach dish I am becoming addicted to — it has mussel or oyster juice in it and it really, really rocks, black beans, a rice and red bean dish, fried catfish(or tillapia?) nuggets and much more. Actually, that covered about ½ the buffet. Normally, I’m not that big on fried foods, but the chicken and fish were delightful. Crisp om the outside, moist on the inside and very flavorful. After the meal we had some of their bread pudding. I’m fussy about bread pudding — white bread, eggs and sugar aren’t enough — I want REAL flavor. Caribbean Grill delivered — it is one of the best bread puddings I’ve had. Loaded with ginger, nutmeg and other spices, it made my toes curl with delight. I only have one suggestions. It would be great if they labelled the buffet so culinary tourists(like us) could learn the names of what we’re enjoying. And maybe what’s in it as well. As I was paying for lunch I mentioned ti the gentleman behind the cash register that I’d thought Caribbean food would be spicier. It was well seasoned, but not hot. «Oh, you wanted it hotter? I wish you’d told me!» I smiled and asked if he’d get out the bottle of Grace’s. He laughed and said, «Oh no, we make our own hot sauce, hotter than Grace’s!» That sounded great, and I told him so. He called to the back and asked someone to bring me a sample. It is a bright pink, similar to Pepto-bismol in color, and thin. I tasted some. If you like hot, ask for it. It’s beyond good. It seems to have a carrot base with habenero peppers in it. It has been handled so the lovely floral notes of the peppers come through. Not just hot, it has flavor and a bouquet that are just lovely. And, yeah, it’s hot. It’s «sit up straight and wipe that smile off your face, this isn’t a toy!» hot to paraphrase the label of a hot sauce I saw years ago. I sure do hope they start selling it — it would really be a hit for them!

Food was good and I would go back since the other Caribbean place I’d tried before, I swore I would not go back there. Tried the two-way(jerk chicken and oxtail) with vegetable/cabbage and rice n’ peas. Jerk was a tad salty but bearable and it was tasty. Beware it is spicy even without the sauce. Oxtail needed a little more cooking but it was not tough. Service not the best but I knew that from the reviews I’d read on Unilocal. So I had no big expectations. It is in a what seems to be a very old shopping center and there are not that many table tops for sitting in to eat.
