Cake Bar

My partner and I plus some friends had an amazing experience at the Cake Bar! We went after a dinner in Dallas and we wanted to try something different. I had heard about the Cake Bar but hadn’t visited them before. From the moment we arrived, the staff was great, the menu was amazing and very easy to understand and order from.
I had the KEY LIME CAKE w/​ICE CREAM! IT IS THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE!
Highly recommended everyone go!

Had the red velvet and strawberry. Neither cake had enough icing between the layers. My red velvet layers were nearly invisible. That being said, the cake itself was great. Odd pairing of the Cream cheese frosting with strawberry cake. I don’t know if that was a mix up, or intentional. My husband was not a fan.

I visited here in Aug 15 and forgot to check-​in or do a review. After a lackluster meal at nearby Resto restaurant — didn’t forget to review that cause it was so disappointing I needed to remember, we stopped by here. My aunt and I ordered a slice of red velvet and a slice of chocolate and they were nice enough to split the slices for us and package them to go. We both agreed that the chocolate was the best although we really wanted to like the red velvet.

Nice cake shop, also sells cookies, and jams/​jelly. I got a slice of the wedding cake. Great flavor, has almond extract but the buttercream icing throws it a bit off, giving it a «regular» cake taste, not to mention it was DRY and BLAND. I think the elder lady was the manager and she wasn’t too friendly… I guess because there was a lot of us in there and we were scattered and didn’t know what we wanted lol it was our 1^st time being there. Plus i was taking pics for Unilocal and maybe that irritated her lol but oh well, won’t be going back here.

First time to visit. We went to dinner first then came here for dessert.
It was crowded. All tables inside (there’s only 4) were taken and the line was wrapped all around the store. It’s a bit claustrophobic when that occurs.
Our group had the key lime, carrot, red velvet, neopolitan, and coconut cakes.
The general consensus is that the frosting was sickly sweet but the cakes themselves were moist and flavorful.
One member of our group has a chocolate allergy and could not eat because they cross contaminate the food by using the same server on all cakes and simply wipe off in between. So if I had a food allergy I would not risk it either.
I didn’t feel the staff was overly friendly. More annoyed at how busy they were which was kind of off putting.
I don’t think I would make a trip back here just for cake. If I were in the area for dinner and the restaurant didn’t offer dessert I liked then I might pop into the cake bar again.

I bake as a hobby and have won a few ribbons in my time at the State Fair so I might be a little harsher on my review than the normal person. I love the set up. There are multiple choices to choose from which I liked. The cakes looked beautiful. I like that you can buy by the slice, mini cake and 8 inch cake. The lady behind the counter was nice. I ordered the mini coconut cake. The cakes are kept cool when you buy them and this is to preserve the cakes. Most cakes are not best eaten cold. So when I got home I tried it cold and then left it out an hour and tried it again. It is better left out 1 hour before eating. The cake was ok and not great. I was expecting great since this is what they do. The cake part did not seem fresh and a tad dry. I have tasted the same quality at a Krogers bakery. I was expecting the same quality as Stein’s bakery on Preston Road. I think they will do well because it does feel cool walking into the store seeing all kinds of cakes and especially the bar that shows cakes already cut into so you can see inside the cake.

I wanted so badly to love this place…*sigh*
Went for the first time today, saw the Italian Cream Cake, didn’t see any coconut on the outside, so I thought on the off chance that they made theirs without it, I’d ask. The young lady at the register said there was, so I told her I’d go with carrot cake.
Maybe I’m crazy for thinking that would’ve clued her in that I didn’t want anything with coconut, because she didn’t bother to tell me there was coconut in the carrot cake. I eat a lot of cake, & I have NEVER had carrot cake with coconut.
Unfortunately I didn’t discover this until I got to Carrollton & took a bite. At least the cake was moist, but the experience would’ve been better if I was eating cake with an ingredient I didn’t hate.

I decided to give this place a try, super disappointed. The cakes were all super dry. I’m not sure if it’s because they have them pre-​sliced or they have a terrible recipe. It’s a cute concept but the execution is poor. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Especially if it’s your Birthday. You deserve a moist piece of cake on your Birthday!

Talk about a moist cake, red velvet to be exact. One of the best red velvet cakes I’ve tasted in a really long time. The cream cheese icing with chopped pecans was so bomb! Yum, yum!!!

I got one piece each of ‘wedding cake’ (white cake on white icing) and ‘old fashion’ (yellow with chocolate icing).
They were both spectacular, moist. I’m being really picky but I cannot say anything negative.
The cakes had a balance of sweetness and texture that you could only get from a-​I hate to say ‘hand crafted’ but there is a genuine superiority to any other cakes found from where? Your grocery store? Eewwww. No way. This place, they make their cake how cake should be.

Came in here to grab some treats for the evening while hanging out at trinity groves. It’s shopfront is adorable & the atmosphere is great.
We got the red velvet cake (slice), chocolate chip cookie and brownie. All were «good» but nothing special. For $ 4.50 a slice, I expect it to be a bit better. It was a tad dry and seemingly bland, perhaps because it was the end of the night? I will absolutely return to try more flavors, but I’m in no hurry to do so. The cookies were also OK, but the brownies were the best! I recommend trying a little of everything.
The customer service was sub par. No one seemed to be interested in helping me as I walked in — but there was no one else in the store at the time. I finally walked up to the register /​«order here» area, and stood there awkwardly until one of the girls asked if she could help me… I was pretty bummed by the lack of customer service. Really wanted to like this place, but it wasn’t as awesome as I expected. Will try again eventually.

Ugh! Why did I find this pitstop to heaven!!!
Came in on an early Saturday morning to no crowd and was greeted by sweet faces. The walls are lined with cookies, bread loaves and even a small fridge of banana pudding and drinks.
I stood like a deer in sweet goodness headlights and after convincing myself that it would not be healthy to get «one of everything» off of the menu, I settle for a toffee pecan cookie, a slice of strawberry cake and some treats for the family.
Sweet Georgia brown! That cookie is the devil! …and so good! And the strawberry cake was moist and filled with real strawberries. The icing wasn’t overly sweet and tasted homemade. I cannot wait to go back and try out their other goodies and possibly a hot beverage.

Omg, their old fashioned chocolate cake is perfection! Enjoy with a big glass of milk, because wow. We also got their German chocolate cake, very good but not as much of a chocolate flavor as the old fashioned chocolate.
I don’t really understand the reviewers that say the cake here is dry. I don’t care for cake that has obviously been brushed with simple syrup. These cakes are dense and just moist enough to warrant a nice coffee or milk.
The service leaves something to be desired but I don’t care when the cake is this good!

Tasty, lovely desserts!
We wandered in here after having a long lunch at Luck and loved it. Our group selected an assortment of cake slices such as carrot, coconut, Neapolitan, strawberry, and chocolate. I chose the coconut and loved it. I would have preferred that the coconut was toasted but the flavors were spot on and the frosting was wonderful.
The sell other goodies aside from cake such as brownies and cookies and offer coffee, milk, etc to wash down your sugary treats.
Service was friendly and welcoming — definitely planning on going back when i need a sweet treat

SAY WHATTTTTTT. Cake Bar is kind of ridiculous. First of all, it smells like Heaven. Secondly, they create some of the tastiest cakes I’ve ever had. The menu is expansive and the prices are incredibly reasonable ($ 4.50/slice). And as you might have guessed, you could share a slice for sure.
I had the strawberry and everyone at the table was fighting for it. Together we also tried hummingbird, red velvet, chocolate, wedding cake, and key lime. Literally all of them were delicious and perfect.
Do yourself a favor and go to Cake Bar today. Like, right now. You won’t regret it!

A shop with nothing but cakes by the slice? What a delicious idea. My mom and I stopped in here after an amazing lunch at Off-​Site Kitchen (one of the best burgers around btw) and were shocked at the number of choices. Everything from wedding cake and key lime to more standard choices like chocolate or Italian cream.
I ordered the carrot cake and it was so lovely! Great textures, flavours and topped with a tasty cream cheese frosting. My mom loved her slice of the Hummingbird cake (think sweet banana bread with frosting) and both of us had plenty leftover to take home with us.
The next time your cake craving strikes (and there isn’t a wedding or birthday party in sight), give Cake Bar a try.

I’m absolutely head over heals for this place. It was like finding hidden treasure! The area where Cake Bar is located, Trinity Groves, it’s such a nice area. I’m from Dallas, TX and I can’t believe I’ve never been that way. When I saw all the restaurants and the view of Downtown Dallas, the landscaping, the architecture, just everything, it’s a great place for, well pretty much everyday!
Cake Bar. No place like it. That I’ve ever been to. It reminds me of home. It reminds me of your auntie’s house, your grandmother’s house, it’s so welcoming, so nostalgic. When you first walk in, you’re greeted by Ms. Debra, loudly, «HI! WELCOME TO CAKE BAR!» She held a whole conversation with my friend and I. So down to Earth, so real, we laughed with her the whole time. She was a one-​woman machine. Taking orders, changing the menu, stamping bags, greeting everyone that walked through the door, all while keeping a smile on her face. Everyone is just so friendly.
I didn’t know where to look first. Sweet goodies everywhere. HOMEMADE sweet goodies. The menu, SMH, you got cakes, ice cream, pound cakes, breads, cookies… but I came and went for what they’re called, CAKE Bar. I was torn between so many. The Key Lime Cake, German Chocolate Cake, Red Velvet Cake (which I later found out they were sold out of) and the Hummingbird Cake. Because of the bright, vibrant green color of the cake, I chose the Key Lime Cake. One of their most popular choices and I now know why. It was so moist, the icing was sweet, but not too sweet, and for $ 4.50, you get a pretty big slice. I couldn’t finish mine, but I wanted to so bad.
We sat around and just observed people that came in and out of the door. To see everyone’s faces of happiness and excitement to try the cake, it was funny, but the best was to see Ms. Debra and her staff talk to everyone, joke around and make everyone feel good when they walked into her place. I mean, it’s called Cake Bar. How can you not smile and be excited to treat your sweet tooth?!

This place is ALWAYS packed, for a good reason! This little cake bar offers more than 10 different cakes on a nightly basis for about $ 4.50 a slice. Some might think this is pricey but they don’t skimp out on the slice size!
I always go with the old fashion, chocolate icing and yellow cake! It has about 5 layers so you get plenty of icing
They also serve coffee, ice cream with your cake and even things like brownies, cookies and banana and bread pudding!
Only a few tables inside but a lot of outdoor seating! I suggest taking your slice to go and walk to the Margaret Hunt bridge– but don’t forget your plastic fork on the wall before you go!

What a great concept… multiple cake flavors by the slice to choose from. You can walk around and look at all the cakes before deciding what slice or slices to order. In the back you can see them baking the cakes… smells awesome:) They had racks of cream cheese and butter so you now they are using real ingredients.
I chose the hummingbird cake (banana taste with cream cheese frosting) and wedding cake. My friend had the key lime cake and strawberry cake (jam in the middle and topped with fresh strawberries). My favorite was the wedding cake. It is moist and topped with a buttercream frosting.
there are tables to sit and enjoy your treat or you can take it to go. They also have ice cream and coffee drinks. Staff was friendly and efficient. You can buy mini whole cakes or regular size cakes.
There is parking in the attached parking lot for free.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Cake Bar. I was a little unsure about what I was in for based on past Unilocal reviews (dry cake? Unfriendly service?) but when my boyfriend and I arrived late on a Saturday night (the Fourth of July, no less), there was no line at the counter and the cashier could not have been friendlier. She welcomed us warmly, all smiles and kind words. When we mentioned it was our first time she eagerly helped us get the hang of things.
I ordered a slice of Wedding Cake and a scoop of chocolate ice cream, and my boyfriend ordered a slice of German Chocolate Cake and a scoop of butter pecan ice cream. The total for everything was $ 12.99, quite reasonable for so much dessert. Both slices of cake were absolutely divine; moist and sweet, the consistency was perfect and the frosting melted in our mouths. They were big slices, too – they don’t skimp on the portions! The ice cream was pretty good, although not as good as the cake. Which I guess makes sense, at a cake shop.
There were a few downsides. We asked for a cup of water and were given a little plastic cup and told to get it ourselves from a sink sort of below the counter… and it came out warm, which wasn’t great. Also, we were given our cake in plastic to-​go boxes without being asked if we were taking the cake to go (we weren’t) so that was odd. Other than that, though, we had a great experience at Cake Bar. Highly recommended for a delicious dessert if you’re in the area.
