Best fried chicken in Texas. You know it’s good fried chicken when you took a bite and the grease, chicken, and seasoning just filled your mouth. Then you take a bite of that pickles jalapeños and damnnn!!! you’re in heaven. This place is located in the ghetto part of Dallas. So to get the full experience you should eat outside and make sure you’re strap so no one steal your fucking delicious pice of chicken

Big Mama’s…oh how I’ve waited 6 years to finally be reunited with you once again! A MUST when you are in Dallas. I had Big Mama’s 6 years ago at their first location, the drive thru also located in Dallas. From what I heard, they gave that location a face lifted and it looks way better now. My Texas family is from Arlington, so we travel quite some time to get to Big Mama’s! This time, we ordered the family chicken bucket, wings, catfish, waffles, and fries. THEPERFECTFRIEDCHICKENTEXTURE! LIGHTLYBATTEREDANDBEYONDCRISPY. NOTDRENCHEDINOIL! My mouth is watering as I write this review. Season that bad boy! Season the catfish! Season the fries! Season the bread! Season everything! Ask for extra seasoning! The seasoning makes it! I even bought extra seasoning to take it home to California! The waffles is thick and super buttery. They make it fresh for you, in front of you. Haha! I was way too excited to eat my long awaited meal so I didn’t even take a picture, lol. The only downfall is the wait. Very long wait. But hey, good food takes time! And BIGMAMA’S DEFINITELYDOESITRIGHT They do it so right that people get real crazy for some Big Mama’s that this place is completely bullet proof. No seriously, Big Mama’s daughter told me that.

I am a loyal fan of Big Mama’s chicken. Every time someone mentions chicken and waffles at a café establishment, it blows my mind because it is significantly different and its oftentimes extremely disappointing. Big Mama’s has the best seasoned and most moist chicken I’ve had, for a cheap price as well. $ 5-$ 6 can get you 3 chicken pieces and a waffle. Ask for extra syrup and jalapenos if you really want to eat well. I have some friends that aren’t a fan of the location, and I’ve been solicited for many things here but that doesn’t stop me from coming. How often do you actually get to say I love big mamas in your daily life?

THEBESTFRIEDCHICKENINDALLAS!!! By far! I’ve tried them all, Rudy’s, Babe’s, Bubba’s, Williams, etc. plus all the standard fast food chicken places(which don’t even compare) and Big Mama’s wins every time! I think it’s the seasoning… which I always buy an extra container of, it’s delicious. I always get a 3 piece basket«all the way» which includes pickles and peppers. This is the main thing I want on my «cheat days». Location: there used to be one further North near Richardson(on Forest & Audelia) but its closed :((PLEASERE-OPEN, BIGMAMA!) The one I now go to is in Sunny South Dallas! It’s pretty hood over there but it’s a stand alone building with its own parking lot and I’ve never felt unsafe there. It’s only about 7 minutes from Downtown Dallas, I just shoot down all the way on Malcom X Blvd until I reach Hatcher and its an easy drive. It’s caddy-corner from Lincoln High School. Dine In: Yes! But I usually take mine to go. Service: I think they’re pretty cool there, don’t expect some campy hipster to greet you and kiss your @ss. It’s not happening. They sell awesome chicken, not some cool«experience» for you to go and brag to your friends about. All I expect is for the cashier to take my order and give me my food. They are usually pretty polite though. Cost: Super cheap and CASHONLY! I get a huge 3 piece basket for around $ 5-$ 6 Order: Chicken baskets, I tried the waffles and they’re ok but the real star is the chicken! They are old-school, they usually only have sodas and Kool-Aid(for real!) to drink. I usually drink water anyway.

Talk of this place had me wanting to try it out but after getting a taste for myself it’s not all what it’s crack up to be maybe having experienced Roscoes Chicken and Waffles had me expecting more what can I say. The hotwings were ok but the pork chop was overly dry like it has been sitting in heat lamp way to long the ordering process is clunky and you got a choice of Koolaid and Lemonade to drink and the waffle tasted like another regular waffle nothing jumped off the plate and said signature dish to me being that this is a chx and waffle place

This is my first chicken and waffle experience and let me tell you it was not a great one. 1st I arrive and the cashier is outside talking on her phone in the car, she goes in ahead of me and throughout the whole transaction is talking on her phone or holding it against her chest when talking to me. RUDE. 2nd. They don’t take cards, cash only, not a huge deal but very inconvenient if you don’t have any cash. 3rd. No diet coke and out of sprite. 4th. The waffle was microwaved(probably because it was also old and had been sitting there) and chicken was old. Had the food been fresh and good the other things I mentioned would not be a big deal.

A friend told me once, «You should try Big Mama’s Chicken.» «Big Mama’s?» I was sort of skeptical but the name itself was hilarious so I went home and looked it up. Sure enough, there was Big Mama’s Chicken and Waffles. I finally got a chance to stop by yesterday. First the little ticky tacky suburban houses passed, then the tall buildings until finally I was in South Dallas, a slightly run down area. Pawn shops were plentiful and the rims on the cars here could make suburbanites jealous. Quite a few chromed out ones. But enough about the rims. It’s on the corner of a street. It doesn’t have a light up sign so it’s not real flashy. There’s a slightly gravelly parking lot. The doors and windows have black steel bars all over them, in classic South Dallas fashion. So yes, it is in a slightly sketchy neighborhood, but really it’s fine. You walk in and it’s a slightly homey place. There’s two round tables and a few seats. To your left is the counter, battened down with what looked like a solid inch or so of(what I’d assume to be) bulletproof plexiglass. There’s two square cutouts with a bend for them to stick the food through. Tough neighborhood. The ads on TV there were also kind of interesting… diapers… weight gain supplements… title loans. Hmm. I wonder what channel that was. So I ended up getting some wings, a waffle and a Kool-Aid. It was a cherry I think. I say I think because it was so sweet it basically glazed my mouth and esophagus going down. Now the waffle wasn’t that great because I think it had corn flour in it. I hate corn flour with a passion, so this basically ruined the waffle for me. The chicken also came with a lightly toasted piece of white bread, a pickled jalapeño, some french fries and a few crinkle cut pickle slices. The chicken wings were pretty good. The seasoning seemed sort of cajun, and they were full size wings, not the puny ones you get at Buffalo Wild Wings or something. Prices are reasonable. My only complaint is that the oil seemed a little stale. And remember, it’s cash only!(That’s how you know it’s gonna be good.)

Good Lord Almighty this place is legit! Hands down the best chicken & waffles I’ve ever had. Actually make that the best waffle I’ve ever had, combined with the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. And its cheap! This will be my new Sunday morning brunch tradition. Forget anywhere in uptown where all you will find is an overpriced, mediocre brunch. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because they do not have fountain drinks and only offered lemonade which was a bit too sweet for my taste or Kool-Aid. Try it. You won’t regret it.

This place is horrible. The chicken is cold and fatty after taste. The only good thing is the seasoning. The shrimp was awful. I’ll never eat here again. The cashier had nails that looked like something could fall off into the food. They burn these horrible smelling in-scents that gag you when you go inside to cover a raw sewage smell that they say is from next door. Avoid this place at all cost.

I’ve been going to this place over at their original location off Audelia for 17 years! They have a drive through and even a walk up. Once, about five years ago, they temporarily closed and switched to new management. We went back last year, but to our disappointment, it had closed down again, but this time there was yellow police tape everywhere! Although they’ve relocated even farther from me, at least they’ve reopened! When my husband n I first started dating n he told me that he knew of this place n loved it just as well; I knew right then that he was The One! :D I always get the whole chicken, w fries, pickles, peppers, white bread, two waffles, n extra seasoning for the hubbs. This place gets quite scary at night. I remember when I was pregnant(at the old location), the lady told us 15 minutes n to just park to the side. After exactly 15 minutes, our order wasn’t ready and I saw more hungry guests demanding for their food at the walk up. I was about to get upset if guests after me were served first. I was 7 months pregnant and was not in any mood to allow others to get my fried chicken n waffles! Much to my husbands protests n dismay, I got out of the car(could hear him immediately lock the doors) and marched up to the walk through n demanded my chicken! The lady was about to return my attitude, but looked at my bulging belly n laughed n said, «Alright mama, I’m packing yours now!». There were quite a few intimidating looking guests around, but I was CRAVING that chicken n their salty, spicy seasoning!!! They even give you those small to-go butters and syrup condiments for your waffles. Sweet waffles and salty, spicy fried chicken go really well together. The peppers and tangy pickles also offer a nice balance to the meal! Oh my goodness, we’ve moved farther north n they’ve moved farther south, but I’m pregnant again n do you know what I just started craving???

Ever since the original location closed I’ve been searching for another good fried chicken and waffle place. There were plenty of good places but nothing beats Big Mama’s. The location is sketch, but, if you’ve been to the original location it’s no difference. At least here we’re inside a building. On top of having good fried chicken and waffles, the fried gizzards here are awesome!

TIP: Always ask for extra seasoning(even though it costs $ 1…which is redic!) Also, always ask for extra pickles and peppers! Thanks to the previous reviewer that let me know there was a new location! I was bummed when I heard the Forest Ln location had closed so imagine my surprise when I found out about the South Dallas location! And it’s really close to my job! This location has no drive through. You have to park and go inside but there is nowhere to sit down and eat. The chicken is just as good as the original location and prices are fair. Of course, the location could be better but everyone seems to be harmless. One day last week, I decided to drive over to Rudy’s on my lunch break around 2 pm. Whyyyyy was the drive thru line still wrapped around the building and onto the street?!? Uggghhh… so I made a circle back around to Big Mama’s who I believe have the same recipe… just much much MUCH shorter wait times. Love it… and now I’m on the hunt for their special seasoning. If you have the scoop, LETMEKNOW!

We were on a hunt for some good ‘ol fried chicken and discovered(via Unilocal!) that the original location was closed for renovations and that this second location was open. So we drove across town and landed here. Be warned that this location isn’t in the most aesthetic looking part of town — if you get my drift. For good food, we are willing to go out of our way and a client had highly recommended this place to us. When you walk in(there is no drive-thru like the original location) you will quickly notice that there are no chairs or tables for dining in. Only a few chairs to sit while you wait for your order so expect to take your food to-go. Also, there is a VERY thick clear plexi glass between you and the cashier/kitchen when you place your order. Most likely for their protection? We ordered some fried chicken with dressing(pickles), fried okra, a waffle, and some Kool-Aid. The fried chicken was definitely the star here… I haven’t had fried chicken like that before. The outside was crispy and cruncy while the meat was moist and juicy inside. I also like the extra seasoning spices that was on the outside. I want to say it was a mixture of salt, pepper, sugar, garlic and other spices. It was a very nice touch! The fried okra was good and my partner liked it a lot — he finished the whole thing by himself(I had one for taste). The waffle was pretty standard fair. The lady made it right in front of us after we had placed our order. And you can never go wrong with Kool-Aid, but it was a bit on the warm side even with the ice. Our entire order came out to be $ 12-$ 15 and was enough to feed the both of us. Very affordable… and I want to say that they only accept cash only. I can’t remember off hand. I will definitely be back if I am in the area… It is a bit of a drive for me.
