400 North Ervay

Great building but management is awful! Had someone here who was great and she went to a different property leaving us to a non-​responder and someone that promises up and down to take care of packages, communicate with tenants, etc. but doesn’t follow through with anything other than excuses. It was a great experience to start but ever since the property manager we had has left, it’s been a complete 180. Really sad that one person can make or break a property this stunning!

Overlooked, underrated and thankfully underexposed for a lot of North Texas brides. The Venue at 400 North Ervay is a historic building that has been updated with modern touches throughout. It’s a post office on the first floor, an upscale residential venue throughout, and an event venue on the top floors. They have several classic banquet halls, and a rooftop that literally is smack dab in the middle of Dallas skyscrapers. It’s beauty is breathtaking. The patio chairs, the candle lighting, the deck is just a great feature of this building. If you’re in the market for a new place or a wedding venue this might be good fit. I have been here twice: once to look at the venue for an event I was holding and another for a recent photo shoot, and both times I was impressed by the uniqueness, style and historic/​modern mix of this place.

The communication for this venue is awful. The phone number listed is just a recording and they never answer the phone. A“Sara” does not return voicemails or emails. I assume they do not care to do business. I have another friend who is planning her wedding who said they did the same thing to her this month.
I have spoke to many of the managers of top venues in Dallas for weddings aka Cityplace, Park City Club, Dallas Petroleum Club and all have been very professional, attentive, and communicative. The Venue at Ervay has been one of the worst in those qualities. Good luck booking your venue at the Non-​Venue at Ervay.

We had our wedding reception here in mid-​September and all I can say is WOW (is there an option for 6 stars?)!!
First of all, the venue is definitely unique to Dallas in that it is has a blend of historic charm and modern amenities. My wife and I visited many different venues and while Dallas has a lot of interesting venue choices it was difficult to find not only a venue that we already hadn’t been to for a wedding but also a venue that blew us away.
Needless to say, once we visited the Venue with Kristin (our main contact for the Venue) we were instantly blown away by the history of the building (Bonnie and Clyde were tried and sentenced there), the restoration of the building (recently renovated in early 2012) and the flexibility in case of rain (they have 3 floors that are available to use for an event — including the roof top patio).
The venue does have a preferred list of vendors as do most venues (I think the original poster has never done any research on wedding venues as every venue has their own preferred list) and we were glad to see that Food Glorious Food was on their list as we had heard great things about them from other married couples. There is however, NO minimum amount we needed to spend at this venue which was great and to top it off, we were allowed to buy our own alcohol for the event with the stipulation that you have TABC certified bartenders serving. For those of you that have had an open bar before you know how expensive it can be and this was a huge saving to us as it actually ended up being cheaper per person to drink at the venue then it was at our wedding rehearsal dinner which was at a restaurant.
Another big reason that we selected this venue was the addition of a roof top patio that was amazing to say the least. We weren’t originally going to have any part of our reception on the roof, but once we had the opportunity to see it completed we knew we had to include it (there are not many places in Dallas where you can have a party on a roof top in the middle of downtown). Well leading up to the day, there was a significant chance of rain and one thing I really appreciated was that Kristin was in constant communication with us and luckily our prayers were answered as we had a beautiful sunny day on our wedding day.
We did have to go between floors as the other poster mentioned but considering the view from the rooftop it was a no-​brainer. Yes, the elevators are not made for 20 people but there are stairs and come on… a little exercise never hurt anyone :) We were originally worried about the flow of the wedding since it required some movement, but Kristin and her co-​worker Sarah kept everyone moving in the right direction and everyone was where they needed to be. Parking, well simple, if you show up to the venue you can clearly see the valet setup in front of the building which is CLEARLY marked with a black awning and a sign that reads «The Venue at 400 North Ervay». If anything I think that the responsibility lies with the wedding couple who should explain the options to self-​park or valet to their guests.
We had over 150+ guests and never did it feel cramped or tight or did we feel that we were running into everyone. We had a 9 piece band, photo booth and a bar on the roof and never were people crowding each other (unless they wanted to!). In the courthouse we were able to include 15 round tables that accommodated 10 people and a head table and their was room for even more.
Overall, amazing… I was taken a back at how everything went and how beautiful everything (especially my bride) was at the Venue. I highly recommend this place to any engaged couples looking for a great venue. Check out the pics and you will see what I am talking about…
