Hartstrings

Shopping for children’s clothing can be a bit of a daunting task. I remember that when I was a new parent, so now that I’m a grandparent, it’s even more perplexing. You’re looking for functionality, value, style and endurance — but you clearly don’t want something that’s going to be junk or break the bank. It’s a hard road to walk.
A friend of mine clued me in to Hartstrings (which is the girls’ line of clothing; Kitestrings is the boys’ line) online. This review is actually for Hartstrings via the web (
), since I’ve never been to the storefront location. Since Hartstrings does have a brick-​and-​mortar store at this location, I decided to review the location at this site.
This review, also, is mainly for the Kitestrings (boys’) line, as I quickly discovered that some things never change: there are always twice as many girls’ (Hartstrings) items available than there are for boys. It was that way nearly 30 years ago, and it’s still that way today. So those of you shopping for girls’ items, have fun!
On to my review: I’ll be honest and reveal that I’ve ordered from them once. However, when I did, it was a large order. Every one of the items I chose was from their clearance section; none of the items was priced in excess of $ 15. Classic overalls that were well constructed were the top of the line as far as price; tops were no more than $ 6 or $ 8, all sized well (if not a little large). Snaps along the leg line are easily undone and redone (these are 18-​month sized overalls); shortalls have large buttons for easy fastening/​unfastening at the shoulder. Appliques are sewn on well with no gaps or overlays. Cut on all one-​piece clothing is ample enough to accommodate a diaper and a shirt underneath.
Delivery is not the speediest, so I was somewhat disappointed with that. Hartstrings uses the USPS for delivery, which at my house is not the most reliable of delivery methods. This was proved when the box arrived completely smashed on one side of it with the sealing tape half-​missing on that side; an inspection of the contents of the box revealed that one of the nine items ordered was missing.
An email to Hartstrings produced no response, but a call to them got me a LIVE voice! I told them that one of my items was missing, despite my having counted the shipment numerous times. Taking my word on it, the missing item was shipped to me at no charge (although it did take 10 calendar days to get here).
Prices are excellent, quality is great, selection is fabulous. Register for their email list and you’ll get daily offerings from them for percentages off or free shipping. If you have young children, this is the place to shop.
I will definitely order from them again.
