This place has closed & another semi-bbq place is already up & running under new ownership. Former owners/tenants have apparently combined their«Culpeper Cattle Company» offerings with their other spot a few blocks away — «Davis Street Pier Seafood», which has taken a serious downturn of late. New restaurant at this location: «Uncle Elder’s Family Restaurant». Here’s a link to the local newspaper’s recent writeup:

We came here after the Culpeper Triathlon, completely starving, and ordered about 12 pounds more food than necessary. The ribs were not very tender and were difficult to eat, which was really disappointing. The mac n cheese was not much better than Stouffer’s. Maybe we hit them on an off night?

** Culpeper Cattle Company has moved. ** It is combining with Davis Street Pier Seafood on October 21st, which is next to the train station just down from the Cattle Company. They are in the process of combining the menu’s. In November, they will be remodeling the restaurant to make it more family seating friendly and moving the bar to the opposite side. I am still getting my BBQ pork nacho’s which are the best around. :)

By my lack of reviews recently, you can see nothing has thrilled me until now. The Secret: it’s out of the way so you gotta look. We ran around it till we finally went in. Bam! I found the BEST Bleu Cheese Burger! All others are bogus blue when you have to hunt for the bleu cheese. This says, «you called?» Kapow! «Here I am». And yes you are. Dive in face first and clean up with those crispy fresh homemade potato crisps. And Sweet Tea delivered in a Ball jar. Now, that Melt-in-your-mouth pork can’t be overlooked either! True slow cooked flavor. If you order with ‘no sauce’, you can put a sauce bottle in each hand and have fun with the flavors. And what a nice bunch of folks too! Smiles all around and you can see they really enjoy cooking. If you’re a local, you better get there to say you’ve been, and if you’re passing through, try yourself some VIRGINIABBQ or the Epic Blue Cheese please.

Surprised find after a hike off the white oak trail in Shenandoah. Quiet lodge feel, and service with a smile. We got the onion strings, they were ok, but greasy. The plates came out wet and we had to wipe them ourselves. Plenty of flies in the dinning area. But with all the negatives, I think the hero here is there ribs! Smoked for 5 hrs and grilled to serve. I wasn’t impressed by their pulled pork or the chicken. Come here for the ribs!

On a drive exploring town and came across this place. Came in around 1:30 on a weekday. Our waitress was nice but said that they were out of pork and chicken, kinda a bummers since I usually only get pork or chicken. Shortly after we placed our order I heard another waitress say the pork and chicken was ready. So they weren’t technically out, it was just cooking. Wish she had told me that because I would have waited to order! Ugh. To start We ordered their BBQ nachos with brisket. Not the best BBQ nachos I have had. Needed more toppings. If you are looking for good BBQ nachos try Bad To The Bone in Gainesville. My husband and I shared a sandwich with brisket and sausage — I can’t remember the name of it — but the flavors were really really yummy. So good. I give three stars mainly for the servers — one, if the waitress had told me I could have pork and chicken if I waited 5 – 10 mins. And two, the space is small — so we could hear the girls complaining to the chef about things he was doing wrong who I gather was new. It’s one thing to correct someone but it was more of nagging on the poor guy. Also the girls could be heard talking and had colorful language… They were nice girls! Just not conversations you would want kids hearing. We would love to go back and hopefully they have pork or chicken ready because I’m sure it is really yummy.

Seriously. If you want a REAL burger in Culpeper, go here. These folks know friendly and they know MEAT. We stumbled into this place Sunday, early lunch and they greeted us warmly. My guy was craving a real burger and the only decent place we found on Unilocal were Five Guys. Once upon a time, that would have been OK but we are a little anti-big-franchise and prefer supporting local business. Culpeper Cattle Co. met and exceeded all of my expectations. The service was friendly and fabulous! The food was fresh and delicious. What we got: fried chicken salad, a fat burger(the cowboy) with a real handmade patty(see photo), homemade chips, bourbon pecan pie. CCC is a favorite of ours in Culpeper. Don’t waste your time anywhere else if you are craving a real hamburger. As for the BBQ and pulled pork, we are trying that next!

I’m really torn on this place. We walked in, and no one greeted us, so we weren’t sure if we should just seat ourselves. I ended up asking one of the cooks. A really nice waitress came out and greeted us after we sat down. The place was packed, and it’s just one server so I’d imagine she’s working pretty hard. Her services was great, BTW. As for the food? The sides were outstanding. We had the friend pickles, and my fried okra and fried apples(noticing a trend?) were great. Where they fell flat was on the entrees. I ordered the baby back ribs, but was informed at the time of order that they were out of those(rather than when we got our menus), so I had to start over. I landed on the St Lous ribs, and got a half rack. The problem is that when I got the ribs, they were cool in temperature. Anyone who smokes bbq knows that they’re kept at 225 °F for 6, 8, 10hrs etc. At that temp, the bone retains a lot of head, and the ribs stay warm for a while. So, that means that they either cooked the food earlier in the day and didn’t reheat it enough, or that they let them sit out so long that they got cold. Neither one of them is very good. Both the ribs and the slider trio lacked flavor beyond the smokiness itself, aside from the temperature issues. There was some dude sitting at a table playing country songs on his phone too(wtf?) and singing along to what was also playing overhead. I think I’ll skip going back.
