The DOD relo office that was processing our reimbursement for moving costs had a question about the sales contract my husband and I had signed, where we had used John Bennett & Associates for the closing. I was out of town, so I called John Bennett & Associates to ask them to email me a pdf of the sales contract. They were the SETTLEMENT AGENT but they said they did not keep a copy of the contract!!! They did have a copy of the settlement sheet, but that is not what DOD wanted. I had to wait until I got home from my trip to find my own copy. FROM 11/​13/​2012: When we took out a loan to build a house, we had Bennett & Associates handle the closing and the title updates. They told us we would need a new title update with each draw. There were about a dozen draws – all with top dollar title updates done by Bennett & Associates. Several people have since told us that this number of title updates was absurd. My main complaint though, is that we hired John Bennett to represent us in this transaction, and he was doing a deal with the builder. He could have told us that the paperwork was not in order and to not sign, or at the least have told us to go hire a lawyer to represent us (instead of himself). I don’t know that he was legally obligated to do this. However, having worked with outstanding settlement companies that DID represent our interests and that went out of their way to help (e.g., MBH), I am disgusted with the job done by John Bennett. We were, however, impressed with Elizabeth Bennett, who was highly efficient at getting information from the builder and contractors. However, with the combination of the builder, the bank, and the lawyer (i.e., John Bennet & Associates), we have lost many thousands of dollars. What a great introduction to Culpeper.
