I am thankful to be part of a community with such a fantastic library program. Although it is a cozy building, the books are updated often and requests made through the librarian or online arrive quickly. On the topic of librarians, there is Albert. He is our local librarian and is super knowledgeable, helpful, and has a knack for inspiring creativity in all ages. He has story time for the children, a writing group with activities for teens, and a meeting space for a bi-weekly adult creative writing group. There are computers to access the Internet, tables for research/writing, and chairs for kicking back to read. There are bookmarks with recommended reading lists for all ages, and if you can’t find something interesting, the librarians who work here are always full of ideas. Parking is usually a cinch in front. Don’t underestimate this small space, it’s a place where you can’t help but grow. So go visit the little brown building. The library misses you.

The Crockett Library is celebrating its 100 birthday this year. It has been in this former Bank of Pinole building for many years. This very small library seems warm and comfortable to me. It reminds me of the small library in Oakland that I went I was young enough to participate in summer reading programs and give book reports to Miss Alice. There are two computers, some chairs, and tables. And of course books. A sign on the window says they have story reading for tots. I like to check out with a librarian, and not be pushed in to using the self-checkout, not for any reason other than I enjoy the interaction. Both times I’ve been here the librarians have been friendly. I am sure that the kids think they are great and will remember them years from now, just like I remember Miss Alice. Why is a 5 star library when it is so small? It’s is warm and inviting. It takes me back in time when a trip to the library was a big deal.

Celebrating their centennial anniversary!!! Across the street from the former Crockett train depot, and kiddie corner to the seminal landmark, C&H refinery. I love history, old architecture… certainly, this charmed and very clean small library outpost was the place for me to pick up a copy of Black Fire… complimentary!!! The author will come and speak on 4⁄26. Gotta get that book read. the real Tom Sawyer and his influence on fighting arsonists during the SF Gold Rush… having been to Twain’s house just a few months back, this is *the perfect* segue…
