I’m a fish and chip lover. When I walked into Stadium, I was a little apprehensive. You get the sense that the standards of cleanliness and hygiene could be significantly improved. When was the last time they dusted, or cleaned the grease traps? Probably 10 years ago. Not a great first impression. The fryer is big enough to boil a hippo in, and you know that grease probably isn’t filtered out as much as you might hope for. With all that said, if you want greasy fish and chips, served up in newspaper UK style? You’ll do fine, here. The fish is good. Not great, but good. The fries, likewise, are on the upward trending edge of «perfectly OK». You’ll want to buy extra tartar sauce, and add some salt, but you’ll do OK. Other reviewers on Unilocal testify to the quality of the chowder, but I haven’t tried it. This is a solid three stars.

Best fish and chips in area and no one else is even close. Greasy goodness. I have ventured to other parts of the menu and always come back to the F&C. The white chowder is also on point. The woman there is always condescending but in an odd way it adds to the charm of the place. I wouldn’t actually eat there unless you want to smell like grease for a week.

Been doing this place for years. Have always had the fish and chips. But tonight was different ! I had the Baked Fish, and it was the best. A small bite of coleslaw, than a small bite of fish, what a taste Throw the vinegar on the fries and enjoy. I usually don’t recommend a dish, but this is one you have to try.

Stadium Fish & Chip is a simple hole in the wall with some pretty good fried fish. The portion size is decent and there’s plenty of chips. Seriously no complaints, because they meet that need for something hot and greasy(but not too greasy). I have to add that I love their fryer setup. I could seriously watch them fry seafood all day with that three bay monster! They also get points for being savvy with the tartar sauce up-sell. You know the tiny cup is never enough! I definitely want to try some other menu items that caught my eye, such as the stuffies and clam cakes.

Great fish and chips. We came here for the first time last week and we will definately be going back. Place is nothing fancy just good fried New England seafood classics.

Great Fried Fish and Sides There’s a reason this place has been open for 50 years and there’s a line out the door. They have mastered frying fish and fries. My wife and I ate in the place last week and you know food is fried properly when you look down at the cardboard plate and it’s not full of grease. Fish not over battered, fresh fries, great red chowder, coleslaw, freshly made tater sauce. 2 people could split one fish and chip and have a couple of cups of chowder for 13 bucks. Fish and Chips is not as easy to make as people think. Many places do it poorly. This place us not one of them. Top notch. Stay open another 50 years. Thanks

Ok so I broke my boycott simply because I’ve run out of fish and chips for Friday nights. I’ve tried everywhere and the best of them haven’t came close to the memories of their fish and chips. After nearly 7 years I came back and ordered 4 orders and some fish cakes(the best ever !). the food was as amazing as I remember It. The mean lady who always snapped at me was nice, pleasant and appreciative. maybe she read my previous review? whatever, I’m happy to be back.

I was really getting discouraged by the lack of good fish & chips in RI. This is the ocean state right? Where the heck are the little fish & chip shops!!! In Cranston apparently. When I walked in and saw them wrapping to go orders in newspaper I knew I finally found the type of place I had been searching for. Fish was moist and flaky and the batter was crispy and not too heavy. Like all the other reviews make sure you get the tartar sauce that you have to pay for, it’s so much better. I have to get a few because I love to dip my fries in the tartar sauce as well.

So I am a huge F&C fan which started back in England. Before moving there, my experience was Jong John Silvers. So imagine the culture shock when we moved to England. So here we are in RI and every place does F&C on Wednesdays and Fridays. So we have enjoyed trying as many as possible. I would say I have not found a bad place, but there are always varying degrees of good. So my firs experience here was for the Clam’s. Just had a craving. They were amazing. Some of the best I have had to include those other places along the cost, Pt. Judith, Middletown… Then we decided to go back for F&C. Silly boy went on Good Friday. The line went out the door, around the corner and into the parking lot. So we waited for 45 minutes for a to go order. Was it worth it, yep. The trick for Fridays is to eat in. You can find a seat with ease. It is the to go orders that kill. And folks are walking out with large orders. My daughter also loves the kids chicken. They use fresh Supremes and cook it to perfection. So if I think they are the best around, which I do, why not the 5 stars. Well, it is the interior. It is a little bit on the out dated side. Not that I have an issue with that, but if I put 5 stars, I will get grief for it. So lets leave it at 4 and take my word for it. It is worth the experience. PS, the owner is a transplant from Yorkshire in the UK. So it is the real deal. Items to note: Cash only and if you want the good tarter sauce, you will have to pony up a few quid. Little packets are free.

Place is nice and quiet in the morning. Really nice people. I was greeted before I had the chance to say anything. I had an order of the fish and clam strips combo; it was excellent. Their service is very quick so you’re in and out before you know it. Highly recommended.

After my first visit there, a solid 4 possibly even a five. I had a dozen shrimp with their shrimp platter, all a good size, and perfectly fried. The french fries were very good, and they’re not even a kind a I normally like. The guy next to me got clams which looked beautiful, and the fish and chips Looked wonderful as well. Will definitely be back. Friendly waitstaff. Cash only.

Decided to go here at the locals told me it was the best fish and chips place in Rhode Island. When we came here we had to make sure that they had even enough for a large family to order, which is relieving to hear that it’s not frozen in the back and just waiting to be fried up. We got six orders of it to go, and they cost about $ 7-$ 8 a piece for winds huge fried codfish and more fries than one person can eat. The tartar sauce better prepackaged are free, but if you want better charter sauce you have to pay for that. They wrap it up a newspaper, which is kind of cool, if you’re getting it to go. But when you get to go, it gets soggy very fast so be careful. It is a very small place, and it seems like it’s been there for very long time. I like how they really only focus on fish and chips and other fried seafood. Their menu is very small, which means that they can excel at what they do.

I’ve been going to Stadium Fish & Chips since about 1968. The vast majority of time, they produce an excellent product that rivals almost any Fish & Chip shop I’ve visited in the UK or Ireland(and I’ve been to dozens). The only other places in North America where I’ve found an equivalent product are Toronto, Ontario and Kearny, NJ(lots of Scottish immigrants relocated to Kearny). The fish is generally impressive in size, with a crispy beer batter type crust that crunches in that delectable way. The fish is usually of high quality, but it’s often so hot that it takes quite some time before you can start eating, which often leads to a crust that can get a bit mushy. In the interest of full disclosure, the last time I ate there, the batter on my fish was not fully cooked in some places. How that happened is beyond me… but it happened nonetheless. The chips are first rate if you like typical English chips. A generous portion of very flavorful and somewhat limp fries that’s hard stop eating. They are not meant to be in the same class as Belgian frite… they are stereotypically English and far superior to American fries.

My family and I came over from England and this is the only authentic fish and chip in RI. Well worth the waiting in the line that’s often out the door. The fish has been fresh every time I’ve been there. I don’t recommend getting it to go because its gets soggy just like any fried food would.

My new favorite Fish-n-Chip joint It’s the English style with the nice light puffy batter. Almost like tempura. The fish and the cooking oil is fresh and the crust is crispy and hot. Decent fries. Good chowda. Good choice of vinega, but I would prefer something even stronga. Nice counter staff. Fun to joke around with. When you’re driving there, don’t miss the parking lot because the street is only wide enough for 1 Amish buggy. Making a U-Turn is impossible. And if you try to make a left turn, no one except Jesus, Gandhi, or my Mom will let you in.
