This homemade ice cream was the bomb. My whole family loved it. The owner is the sweetest woman ever. Great prices in a great little town!

Some homemade and the rest is local. All of it is great and cheap! Long line on a Saturday night but it moved quickly and staff were very friendly. If you’re in the area and have a hankering for some ice cream, then this is your place.

Nestled in Cranbury’s Main street where there are only a few businesses serving food is Gil And Bert’s. It seems like the entire town comes here for ice cream after dinner — the line is half a block long, but it moves. They carry homemade ice cream as well as flavors made by a brand names Gifford. My family ordered Coffeelicious, Mint, cookie dough, and raspberry Chocolate Chip? Frozen yogurt(gifford). There are also a variety of toppings to add to your ice cream. I thought the the Coffeelicious was decent. It was creamy and could have had more coffee flavor. The bad thing was my sugar cone tasted stale, which was odd because they get so much business. My kids liked their flavors and toppings but they actually liked the ice cream they had earlier at another ice cream shop offering homemade ice cream. My wife’s yogurt was ok and nothing to write home about. The rating was for the value of the ice cream along with the homemade quality. For $ 1.50 they gave one good sized scoop for the kids cup plus extra for toppings. For $ 3 they give a humongous scoop along with sugar /waffle cone. Definitely well worth the money if you’re in the area for ice cream. They also carry a couple flavors of Italian ice. Call them and they’ll text you back with the menu of the days flavors. There are benches for customers to sit in under a small tent. There’s street parking and a public parking near by. Overall i would comeback because it’s good and there are no nearby alternatives. Much better than Rita’s that’s for sure.

This is a quaint little ice cream parlor in the middle of Cranbury. It’s a bit hard to find from car because its entrance is more off the the side than the front. The ice cream is home made and is delicious. They also have unique flavors. Since I came here a few minutes before closing, I just ordered the plain chocolate ice cream. Next time I come here I’m definitely examining the menu and trying something different.

Overall awesome ice cream place. The prices were very reasonable. The kiddie size was about $ 1.50 which is an amazing price and size. The cone was also reasonable sized too. I was astonished on how inexpensive it was despite having some unique flavors.

Found this place thanks Unilocal, when I had a craving for good ice cream but didn’t know of where to get any. Until i discovered Gil & Berts, the only nearby ice cream shops in town were dairy queen, ritas and a pint of ben & jerry’s at wawa. It was a pleasant surprise to randomly do a Unilocal check and find a real ice cream shop near me. Located in Cranbury, Gil & Berts can be enjoyed right outside on one of their many benches or while walking around the quiet area. There are plenty of flavors to choose from with yogurt and gluten free options every time. The employees are friendly and work quickly to serve the long lines.

Their own ice cream is delicious and reasonably priced, but the Gifford’s chocolate is the best chocolate ice cream i have ever had. The lines on summer nights are epic, but goes to show how good this joint is. I live walking distance to 3 very good places including Halo Pub, but prefer to drive the 15 minutes here.

When I began this important ice cream research I stated that to be considered for 5 stars, the business needed to provide free water. If it was not for this fact, this walk up window in Cranbury would be eligible. I almost regret making that caveat, but I will stick by it. This establishment serves 2 brands of ice cream, their own homemade, and also a highly respected frozen treat from Maine called Gifford’s. I have encountered this brand while vacationing there, and can attest to its quality. There are about 12 of their own flavors, and maybe 6 of Gifford’s. I tried one of each, their own cinnamon churro, and from Maine an award winning chocolate. Both were what all ice cream should strive to be. I don’t think I can ever go there and not order the cinnamon, it had a swirl of cinnamon sugar and also cinnamon flakes. If you have never tried chocolate with cinnamon you need to change that right away, incredible synergy! But on the next visit I will most likely try their own brand of chocolate, which may have been darker(I can’t say for sure as everything was hidden behind the window) I will gladly drive past 3 or so other places on this list during my 15 mile drive to this spot. Very economical as well, a small was 2 decent sized scoops in a cup for $ 3. 4.75 Unilocal for now, but if I see a pitcher of ice water on my next visit I’ll go to 5.

I love this cute little ice-cream place right in the middle of the historical town of Cranbury. It’s actually just a wide window with a menu on the outside, but adds to the charm of the place. Firstly, I would have to agree with all the other reviews on here saying that the portion sizes are awesome! I got the kiddie size, but the scoop was very generous and was only $ 1.50. A «small» size is double the kiddie size, and is $ 3.00, and there is also a double scoop that is a bit pricier, but definitely worth your money. The menu has a great selection, including their own homemade flavors, and other flavors that they get elsewhere. I tried the homemade cinnamon churro and it was SO delicious! Tasted just like cinnamon-vanilla, with a nice crunch due to pieces of cinnamon-tasting cereal. There is no indoor seating, but a nice outdoor seating area that’s perfect for a warm summer. It’s a great place to chill with some friends on a summer night! Both times I have been here have been at night, and there is always a line of people at the window even at late hours.

You might think scooping ice cream is not too complicated but apparently that’s not the case. Expect to wait in a line that moves very slowly and to have the employees’ friends cut to the head of the line after you have been standing in the hot sun for a while. The above would be semi-excusable if the prices were not so high. Apparently their target market is Wall Street execs wives and kids.

The ice cream was great. One gets a good portion for the price. The single scoop I received was very ample, and it tasted like real chocolate ice cream. If people complain about the price etc come to the Big Apple and compARE.

The nicest ice cream place in town ! ;) friendly people giving you a great variety of flavors, with lots of homemade options. My favorite: fly fishing fudge.

I like that they don’t act like they make ALL the ice creams. They clearly have it laid out what they make and what they don’t. Prices are super fair especially for the quality and quantity. Quaint little shop on a sleepy main street in the Historical part on Cranbury. I like to just stroll up and down the block while I enjoy my ice cream.

I absolutely LOVE this place for several reasons: 1. They have a decent amount of selections about 10 – 15, which is the best amount cause you won’t get too overwhelmed but have enough options for you to find one you love! 2. The service is phenomenal! The workers and owners are very friendly, sweet, and lovable! They always have a great smile on their faces and sweet voices! They care about what you like and make sure that they give you the best experience! 3. The PRICE and the SIZE! I forget whether they have 3 or 4 sizes(kids, small, medium(?), large or something along with those lines, but I always get the kid’s size because with the kid’s you get ONEGIANTSCOOP and a little more! I always feel that it’s just right after eating it, and it only costs $ 1.25! It’s shocking how affordable it is. Definitely check this place out when you’re around! Fun and delicious flavors, wonderful service, and affordable prices for the generous amount!

This place is great for a bunch of reasons. 1) It is totally cute. There are benches to eat your ice cream, a bucket of sidewalk chalk and a bucket of legos for kids to play with and the staff and clientele are friendly. 2) It is usually easy to park on the street. 3) It is close to the cute playground at Cranbury Park, so you could go there as a treat after taking your kid to the park. 4) They have a kiddie size. 5) Every flavor is labeled for allergens– gluten or dairy or nuts. 6) They have some flavors made by Gifford’s and some made in house. All the ice cream there is delicious. 7) The prices are reasonable. You could not ask for more in an ice cream place.

Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had in the cutest little neighborhood = a perfect summer night. We had heard about this place through other people who attend the same dog park as us, so one night after the dog park we decided to head over to Cranbury to try it. Boy, am I glad we made that decision. First, the town of Cranbury is perfect(at least visually). It’s like a movie version of small town America plopped down in the middle of New Jersey. Unfortunately the ice cream place doesn’t have a parking lot of its own, but we were easily able to find parking right around the corner, even though there was a small crowd already gathered for ice cream. There is a board out front that lists all the kinds of ice cream they are serving that night. It has a really nice selection, with some flavors you don’t often find. They also offer sugar free versions and probably fat free too, though I’ll admit I was not looking for it that evening. The ice cream flavors sounded so good, I had trouble choosing. I eventually settled on toasted coconut and my boyfriend got blueberry. Oh my goodness, the toasted coconut was to die for. Full of flavor, decadently creamy, and even the perfect softness. I may have swooned. I did not like my boyfriend’s flavor as much, but I’m not a big blueberry fan, either, so I’m not a great judge of that flavor. He seemed perfectly content with it, though. The place has a nice amount of seating — there didn’t seem to be anyone standing who didn’t want to and I didn’t have to wait at all to find a seat. And the owner even brought out a mini ice cream cone for our dog(she asked for our permission first, so if you don’t want your puppy eating human food, there’s no need to worry). I will definitely be back.

4.25 to be exact. A small mom & pop ice cream shop, Gil & Bert’s lives up to the hype, and then some! First of all, this ice cream is homemade. It seems that their flavors rotate throughout the season and they are pretty unique. I regret not taking a picture of the board with their flavors. The ice cream I got was a scoop of peanut butter cookie dough and apple pie. While the peanut butter cookie dough was good, I must say that the apple pie tasted amazing. A flavor of «apple pie» which had chunks of apple in vanilla ice cream with graham cracker crumbs?!? I love it! Also, I would like to say you get a nice amount of ice cream for what you pay for. I was full from sharing these two scoops. What is nice also about Gil & Bert’s is the location and outside décor. This place has an old school feel since you order the ice cream outside through a window. The area of Cranbury is nice an quiet, and the immediate area is a good place to relax and enjoy the ice cream. They also have some chalk available so you your kids can draw on the ground(or if you are a «big kid» do it yourself!) They also have menu options for shakes and other items. I wish there was a menu that I could find online, as their website does not provide one.(Add one please!) If I am in the area and it’s summer, I’d definitely come back here. And you should too. No 5 stars yet, I need to try more flavors :)

This place is the real deal. They have their own blends custom created and also carry a few other brands as well. And oh my gosh the hot fudge – the helping is nice and it is deep and powerful; make sure you pair it with an ice cream that can cut through the richness. Surprisingly they also have pretty good coffee also. I think it’s just Newman’s, but I’ve had it twice and it’s brewed very well. Keep in mind that they close in October – so don’t go in November expecting some ice cream!
