Beth and crew are amazing! Great place to stop for a sandwich, a wine tasting, or to pick up a bottle of wine or those delicious items that you can’t find anywhere else in the island. They make great cheese platters for your gatherings and they have awesome gift boxes for any occasion. Bayleaf is my «go to» when I need to get something special for someone special.

Great local store to buy wine and cheese. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great that you can sample the different cheeses before you commit to buying one. Wine selection is very good for a small shop.

There isn’t a time that I walk into Bayleaf, that I am not well taken care of, whether it be choosing wine, or food. The staff is highly educated about their products. It is always a pleasant experience. –Fell Cheston

Sandwiches are decent, if maybe a little overpriced. Quality ingredients, but they are tiny. The store is weird. Most items don’t seem to have prices. Bayleaf is obviously aimed at tourists, but I can’t say I would recommend a fellow traveler to make this their one stop in Coupeville.

Mouthwatering!!! I had their vegetarian paella at our rehearsal dinner last Friday and I could not stop wanting it or thinking about it all day today! Thank you for giving us such a delicious experience for my family and friends. Wonderful flavor, even the carnivores loved it.

I love the low key friendly atmosphere. The staff is wonderful and approachable. And I LOVE the variety on their wines AND their cheeses. They also have this«Thirsty Thursday» every week from 5−7pm with wine flights that change every week! Its a great way for me to learn about new wines and experience a welcoming social atmosphere.

Love this place! Fabulous service, cheery staff an such knowledge. The gourmet foods and cheeses are affordable and so delicious. The wines are thoughtful and some are creative and delightful choices. They have a lunch menu but call or order ahead as they can get busy. A must if you are in the Island.

A wonderful place to sit and enjoy a glass of rosè! I highly recommend having a picnic plate too! Make sure they put the fennel salami on it, so good!!! My friend had the François sandwich which had roasted tomatoes, brie and rosemary ham, yum!

We stopped here before going on a hike for a quick bite and couldn’t have been more pleased. It’s a deli style place that sells a great variety of wines, cheeses, and craft beers. They seem to specialize in providing food for picnics; there was even a Unilocal coupon for those very things just for checking in. They have a few tables for eating in and it was such a gorgeous day we stayed outside. All of us had sandwiches and we were all deeply satisfied. I had the Francaise which was tremendous. The ham was thinly sliced and deliciously cured. The brie however was the starring attraction. It was the perfect combination of salty and creamy and melted to just the right level where it is neither runny on one end nor too solid on the other. Each bite was bursting with flavor. I’d highly recommend it even if you’re just driving through. Not to mention, great views of the Sound right outside.

Cheese!!! I went to bayleaf to get cheese for a surprise fondue dinner. The fondue turned out so amazing because of the high quality cheese they have. And so many other fun foods in the store, too. One of many great shops in Coupeville.

We’ve been patrons of Beth’s Bay Leaf for years. A great, carefully selected choice of cheeses and cured meats, wines and other items. The staff is unfailingly good, but none so much as the owner, Beth. She is a ray of sunshine. She has wonderful wine tastings, including ones dedicated to Champagne; she introduced us to many splendid products, particularly the world of grower Champagnes. You cannot miss with a trip to the Bay Leaf, doubly so if Beth is in the house.

Stopped here for a little snack while on our whale watching tour with the Victoria Clipper. The lady working was very delightful. My daughter and I just wanted some cheese and crackers to nibble on so she offered to make us a cheese platter. The goat cheese was by far our favorite. We wanted to bring some back with us, but didn’t know how to keep it from spoiling since we weren’t going to be back home for almost another 8 hours. There wine selection was amazing as well, but I didn’t try any… this time. We’ll see you again Bayleaf!

Bayleaf is my shop to buy & order wine, as well as cheese, meats, crackers, spices, pastas, breads, spreads, oh my god I can’t name everything they have. I love this place. I frequent this lovely shop at least twice a week and they make sure to tell me what I might like or what we should try. We are foodies and winees. Beth, the owner, will let me know when she is ordering my favorite cases of wine and save me a case. David made my husband’s retirement party a hit! He came and cooked his fantastic paella and it was delicious. We had 125 people there and everyone wanted to take some home and raved about it. Fantastic. This little shop in Coupeville,(and another small shop in Oak Harbor) caters to, not just tourists, but to locals, and we all so appreciate that. Fantastic shop, food, wine, people, and owners. This is what makes us shop local. They are the best!

They don’t make sandwiches(despite describing themselves as a deli), but they will serve up a nice antipasto plate with meats, cheeses, and bread. There’s no seating indoors, but there’s a table in the little garden out front.

What a find this place is! The Wife and I love to visit the Island but we had never stopped into Bayleaf before last night. We went to Coupeville for the Christmas Parade(love small town parades) and once it was done we were going to head to Toby’s but it was packed to the gills. There are not a lot of dinner options on Front St. so we started to head over to the Fish Bowl which is next door to Bayleaf. We went in on a whim and fell in love! Excellent selection of cheese and meats and the wine selection looks like it has some very nice bottles. There are many delectable delights in the fridge. We saw duck breast and duck sausage. There was butter from Normandy and smoked Albacore. One great find after another. We decided right then that a «picnic dinner» was the thing to do. The very friendly woman behind the counter offered to put together a plate for us with a selection of cheese, salami, pâté, with crackers. In addition she included sun-dried tomatoes, olives packed with anchovies, cornichons and pickeled onions. We took this back to our B&B and had a wonderful dinner accompanied by the Chinook Red wine I bought in Langley earlier. I sure hope that Coupeville can sustain this gem of a shop. Hell, I wish this kind of shop was here in Ballard! We sure could use something like this.

Ok, I admit that we used to drive vast distances to try and find some decent cheese in WA, but now all we have to do is go to Coupeville, where you can find an amazing selection of well chosen foodie items that have actually been vetted before they were put in the case.

beth, beth, beth. how you’ve made coming to whidbey to visit hulamom so much better… the worst part about living on whidbey back in the day was the complete lack of gourmet food items. once a foodie, always a foodie so i packed my bags and headed to NYC as soon as i could. now when i come«home» to visit the mom, we always make a pilgrimage to the bayleaf. screaming banshee bread, a fantastic, affordable and inspired selection of wines, a cheese case to die for, plus a hundred little pantry items that make you want to drool. embrace it, coupeville. let’s all do our best to make this local business a huge success(and cross our fingers that beth decides to open a south whidbey location).

Bayleaf is a must-stop for any foodie types visiting beautiful Whidbey Island, Washington. Owner Beth Graves has created a wonderful local institution, featuring a wide selection of imported and domestic wines and cheeses and grocery items from around the world — excellent olive oils and vinegars, deli items like cured olives and cornichons, local and regional products like Fran’s chocolates and Screaming Banshee bread, and exotics like imported Turkish coffee. Pick a bottle of wine and a loaf of crusty artisan bread, have Beth or the friendly and knowledgeable staff put together a plate of cheese and deli items, and head out for a picnic on the Coupeville Wharf or out to the beach at Ebey’s Landing — a perfect day! There’s now also a Bayleaf up the Island in Oak Harbor — check it out!
