I’m definitely not a fancy girl and usually eat simple and cheap but Mastro’s is neither simple nor cheap. For a person like myself it’s the type of dining to save for a special occasion and is worth the wait. Our appetizer was the scallops which were cooked perfectly and had such a flavorful sauce! We were just a party of two but ordered the Chef’s Cut Rib Eye not realizing how big it is. Turns out I was glad because I had left overs the next day and they were just as delicious. The sides we got were the sautéed mushrooms, Gorgonzola Mac and brussel sprouts. The mushrooms and Mac were perfect but to be honest… the sprouts tasted exactly like the ones I roast myself at home(I must be an amazing cook). Of course we had to get the signature butter cake that I’d heard so much about. Lives up to my expectations. Yum. Our server was a super sweet blonde woman whose name I’ve forgotten, sorry. She made great drink and food recommendations and was very knowledgeable about the menu. I hate when I ask questions about items but the server isn’t able to give info because they haven’t tried everything. This was not the case. Plus, the bussers and servers really worked together as a team. It was a bit noisy although I imagine it was due to the fact that it was Mother’s Day. I can’t wait to go back in a couple of weeks to celebrate my daughters birthday. It’ll be a gift to myself also!

This review is from the long weekend. If you wear shorts here you can’t sit in the main hall but we liked better sitting on the patio. Order the grilled asparagus. Eat your greens lol. it tastes good too. The lobster mashed potatoes is really good. Any steak should satisfy you here. Just tell’em what you’re looking for in the steak and you should be fine. The shrimp cocktail is extremely fresh and tasty. Only 3 in 1 order but you can order 5 or 8 or any number and they will accommodate you. Valet is $ 8 which is nothing compared to the $ 300+ bill that you easily rack up for a party of 4. Everyone was very friendly and eager to please!

The food was to die for, the cocktails were amazing, the dessert incredible but the server was not impressive, spotty at best. Must have been the guys’s first night and first interaction as a server. The next day I received a follow up call and provided the details regarding our experience. I held off writing a review until a manager called me back but after a week without a call, I called today to follow up. The girl was friendly and didn’t know why a manager didn’t call and offered to personally communicate the message with her manager. At this point, it’s pretty safe to assume that Mastros has a management problem. I will definitely try the Newport Beach location but not return to Costa Mesa. I’m guessing that the same person that hired our server is the same person that is responsible for customer follow up.

Worth every penny of that silver spoon fed cattle. I loved the service, the Kobe steak was great, and the lobster mash is to die for!

I’m very sad that I had such a horrible experience here after I’ve heard such great things about this restaurant. My boyfriend and I came here for our 2 year anniversary, we had reservations for 7:15pm. Once we arrived the hostess were very nice and said happy anniversary to us, we were seated right away. Our waiter was Dennis, service started out great. I ordered the mastro margarita which came with a shaker, and it constantly got refilled for me. We started with the calamari which was average nothing special. We also got complimentary bread which was very yummy and we got a lot of it too! As the night went on the service was going down hill and we were ignored way to often. Not sure if it was because we are young? Because I noticed our waiter pay way more attention to parties with older people. I started with the lobster bisque then the twin lobster tails. My boyfriend started with a wedge salad then a 12oz filet cooked medium well. We both also got lobster mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus for sides. After we received our soup and salad the service at this point was non existent. The soup was average and so was the salad. Our main course arrives almost an hour later and my boyfriends steak was burnt on the outside and medium rare on the inside, instead of sending it back because it took so long in the first place he decides to eat around it. We also asked for A1 which arrived after my boyfriend finished eating. My lobster tails were so small and extremely tough. The lobster mashed potatoes were good although they were quite watery. We were offered a desert for our anniversary from someone who wasn’t our waiter, our waiter was nowhere to be found for hours. We ordered the butter cake to go since it was past 10pm at this point. We were there for so long and just wanted to leave. We don’t know if they forgot about our cake or what because another 20 – 30 minutes go by and we still don’t have our desert but they did have time to come pick up the check. We ended up leaving without our desert. Another reason I’m giving this place 1 star was because I got the worst food poisoning that I have ever had in my life, I have never been that sick before. We were staying up in Newport and our last day there was completely ruined, we had to cancel plans and reservations because I was to sick to leave our hotel. In fact I wasn’t completely better for almost a week. Not only was this the worst anniversary dinner we’ve had this by far was the worst dinner out that we’ve had. $ 350 for 2 people for below average food, poor service, and an extreme illness. I will never come back.

2.5 stars. The steak was amazing and the rest was eh. If this review was JUST off the steak it would be closer to 5 stars. You might think it would be weird to order sushi at a steakhouse and… It is… But the sushi section took up 1⁄5 of the menu, had the chef listed by it, and our server highly recommended it when I asked about it – so we went with the maguro lime roll as an appetizer. It probably would have been decent if it wasn’t drenched in some sort of soy sauce dressing. It was literally drenched and masked the flavor of the fish :(See picture! I ordered a caliente breeze cocktail(I have a thing for spicy cocktails!) but when it arrived it was horrible. This isn’t an overstatement. I took a small sip and could only stomach down another small sip. I usually just force myself to drink bad cocktails but this one wasn’t possible. It was like syrup and you couldn’t taste any lime, the liquor, or spiciness… Just sickening sweetness. This is the FIRSTTIME in my life that I’ve ever sent a drink back. I ordered a different cocktail(penicillin) with scotch, ginger, lime, that was great. The BF and I both went with Filet. I got the 8 oz and he got the 12 oz. Medium rare. AMAZING!!! So juicy and tender. The scalloped potatoes were fantastic too! Huge portions so we had more than half left and asked for it to be boxed up… But we never got it back :(so we left without half the potatoes I paid for. We ended the night with a complimentary chocolate cake due to my boyfriend’s birthday. This was a nice touch! The cake was okay. It had a watery consistency almost like rum cake and wasn’t dense enough or rich enough tasting for my boyfriend and I. It came with a huge side of whipped cream and I believe it was this cream that sent my boyfriend and I running to the bathroom later in the night… My stomach still hurts the next day. Overall, maybe I’ll come back and avoid everything but the steak and sides and I’m sure my review will be better. For a fine dining restaurant where you’re spending $ 100+ per person, the service was just okay. There were small things we noticed: extra wine glasses sitting on the table even though we didn’t order a bottle and we got glasses of wine so we put those glasses at the edge of the table so they’d take them. Busser spilling the sauce from the sushi across the table leaving a huge streak and not apologizing or acknowledging it. Not giving us our to-go box. Server being too busy for us to get his attention when we wanted it(NOT his fault!!! He was a great server, I think he was just a bit overwhelmed when it got busy).

Love the atmosphere, love the music, very romantic set up. I love how they didnt hesitate to accommodate my request. I will say this, the bread was hard and dry! I expect better from this place ! Maybe is the fact that I came in around 9pm! Any whom The steaks here are the best! Rib eye 22oz(huge and juicy) Best I’ve ever had. Love the valet parking. Love how they offer waters to go. Very thoughtful. My favorite thing is the bathroom! It’s always clean!!! This place would get a five star but I’m sad about the bread being hard, sad that they don’t carry Johnny Walker(Red) nor do they carry Pink Moscato! Boo! Lol Those are like favorite drinks!

First time here tonight and diffently will not be our last. We had the Tomahawk Kobe Steak(it’s off the menu, so make sure you ask about it) and the Ribeye Steak. I have to admit the Tomahawk was very very good. Once I tried the Tomahawk, eating the Ribeye was not the same anymore. The Tomahawk was just that good. We also order the Alaskan Crab Stuffed Mushroom for appetizer, that was very good. The lobster Mash potatoes lobster was so moist and butter. It compliment the steak very well. I order the Brussel Sprout, but it was a bit dry and too burnt. So I don’t recommended that. You must end the night with a desert, a must is the Butter Cake. Although I was really disappointed they did not even bother to wish me a Happy Birthday. You would think if someone is paying over $ 350 for dinner and that just for 2, they should atleast deserve a Happy Birthday shout out, but then again at any cost everyone deserve a birthday shout out. What’s the point of the hostess asking what we are celebrating tonight if they are not even going to bother to care. That’s why due to the overall experienced I can only give it a 3 star.

Fine dining with fine dining prices but worth your buck. I can’t see how anyone could leave this place without leftovers. The portions are very generous. Now on to the important part… Food! I’ll detail my review of each item below. Caesar salad: Yes I’m reviewing this because I love a good Cesar salad. Two thumbs up. Delicious dressing, buttery crunchy croutons. Jalapeño tuna sashimi: Perfection. The tuna was so buttery and flavorful. Some of the best sashimi I’ve had. 22oz Ribeye: Again perfection. The title of steakhouse is well deserved. Cooked to perfection, tender and well seasoned. The temperature(medium well) was spot on and although I still opted to use A1 sauce, because I’m obsessed, it really didn’t need it. Tender to the cut and it comes out piping hot on a plate that is 400 degrees. Gorgonzola Mac and cheese: So here comes a bit of a disappointment in the meal. Of course you hear Gorgonzola Mac and cheese and you think«heck yes» but this Mac and cheese falls short on the basics. Most of the cheese is on top of the noodles while the noodles themselves are dry and naked. I expected the noodles to be covered in a rich creamy cheesy sauce. Also pass the salt please. Rarely do I ever add salt to my foods, but I was forced to with both side dishes we ordered. Creamed spinach: Excellent preparation. perfect ratio of cream to spinach. Where this dish falls short is, as I mentioned above, S.A.L.T. I started to think perhaps these dishes were under-salted intentionally? Not sure, but if so… I’d disagree with that approach. Butter cake: I’m sure many will utter a small gasp when they read that I am not praising this dish as its a know favorite. But it’s not my fault I know where to get a better butter cake. That is not to say that this cake is not good. Of course it is very yummy. Nothing wrong with this dessert at all. It won’t disappoint. It’s just that again… I’ve had better but if you haven’t you wouldn’t know any better. In summary I had a great experience here. The service from the hostess to our waiter John and our busboy was exceptional. Everyone was so friendly! PS. Great live music and a lovely wine list. Will I revisit? Ehhhhh, if a special someone picks up the check sure. This was a place I just had to try as a foodie, but there are other fine dining steakhouses I’d rather revisit. They still earned every star. So if you haven’t gone definitely worth checking out. Bön appétit!

Amazing service. Good food. Super duper, über, flipping expensive. We started in the bar, which is lovely. They’ve got a stellar selection of all the things I like, and I imagine of all the things most people like. I had a bookers bourbon and club soda and was quite pleased with the length of the pour. For dinner, we started with the Foie Gras, which I hadn’t tried before. It was good, not great, but the others in my party said they’d had better elsewhere. I had a New York steak topped with truffle butter. It was amazing. The sides and salad were definitely edible. I really enjoyed the Gorgonzola mac & cheese. The scalloped potatoes were just ok, the sauteed asparagus was good too. The warm butter cake is everything you hope for and more. It is what you write home about. The crème brûlée was also stellar. Keylime pie was probably the best I’ve ever had. Also, the 2 pans of hand whipped cream that came with the desserts was a nice touch. We got there kind of early because we had tickets to a show across the street, so when we got there, it was quiet, but by the time we were finishing up it was LOUD. Couldn’t hear dinner conversation loud, too noisy for my taste most of the time but we were almost done anyway. The service is really what makes this place. The table and bar service were stellar. Attentive, knowledgeable, and fully accommodating of any request. When we were leaving, the waiter offered to store our leftovers in the fridge till we got back from our show and we were able to leave the car in the lot where we’d valet parked. I really enjoyed the experience, but I don’t think any of it, the service, the food, justified the price point. I wouldn’t come back unless I had a gift certificate or someone else was picking up the check.

always a good place for steak. I usually get the bone in rib eye but they had a special today Australian wagu tomahawk. The cap was so flavorful. Best part of a rib eye. Unfortunately when I got to the eye it was overcooked. Asked for medium and got medium well. Tried to eat it but just wasn’t enjoying it. I just waited till the end to let the server know. I don’t really like to complain or send food back. But at the same time our server should have checked up on us earlier. Moral of the story. Let them know in the beginning of your meal and don’t stay quiet if your not happy. Service from beginning to end was wonderful. Always has a good experience here. But I’ll prob just stick to my usual bone in rib eye.

I liked how casual everyone was and how it didn’t stray too far from the other locations. Sucks that you have to valet your car here, they accept card to pay for valet too so no worries if you don’t have cash. I finally ordered a steak and split it, we got the bone in rib eye and it was mouth watering. I preferred the fatty parts and this steak sure as hell gave me what I wanted. We also ordered sautéed shrimp, the sauce and bread that comes with it is perfectly seasoned. The shrimps are quite large, those usually give me stomaches, so I only had one. We also had calamari as an appetizer, for sure this was overly salted and tasted like typical calamari that you could get at say, Kickin Crab. Our server was nice as usual, it was kind of boring to eat here. Nothing to look at, just plain interior, the singers however were really cool and I liked that they weren’t too loud like the Mastro’s at Ocean Club. I would come back again for sure

Argh, one of those times where I feel like something must be wrong with me… I just didn’t love Mastro’s. I’m not sure if it’s just because classic American steakhouses aren’t my jam, or it was just a bad day… The suboptimal: – The restaurant is dark and loud. I had to raise my voice more than I’d like. – Service was really inattentive. Our waitress was quite nice and knowledgeable about the menu, but our water glasses were empty for a really long time, and we eventually had to ask 2 different people before someone finally came to provide more water. This would not bother me at a casual restaurant, but I expected more from a nice place like this. – The salmon filet was very thin and slightly overcooked and underseasoned. And the good: – The lobster appetizer was well-cooked and we really enjoyed the cocktail sauce. – The garlic mashed potatoes were smooth and seasoned well. – Brussels sprouts were pretty good. – The butter cake really was good. I loved how it was partly crispy and caramelized on the outside. The cream is an excellent addition. I am SO glad we split this amongst 4 people; there’s no way I could have eaten it on my own! I just wasn’t that impressed overall. I think it’s a combination of preferring lighter and more unique flavor profiles along with a different ambiance. Oh well =/

The food here is great. I think that goes without saying. It is not inexpensive by any means, but I’m always full and satisfied(and usually carrying some items to go) by the time I leave. I also really enjoy the bread basket, and even though I know it’s going to make me too full before my main meal arrives, I can never resist digging in and sampling the different varieties of carbs. I still have one issue, however. The last time I had a birthday dinner, I was told that the dessert would have the person’s name written on the plate. And it didn’t happen. This was at the Beverly Hills location. This time, I didn’t even think about it, since it didn’t happen the last time. Yet, when I called in to confirm my reservation the day of, I reminded the person on the phone of the celebration, and she said that she wrote it down and his name would be written on the plate. For some reason, I decided to be optimistic and believe her. When we arrived, the hostess asked if we were there for any special occasion. I thought this was lame, because I had already written it in the comment section of my reservation request and discussed it on the phone with a member of their staff. So, again, I mentioned it. And, when the dessert came out… surprise, surprise… no name. As I said last time — if no one ever told me that a name was going to be put on the plate, I wouldn’t have even cared. A free birthday dessert is wonderful in and of itself. But when I am specifically told, without asking, that something special and personal would be included, then I believe wholeheartedly that it should be done. If it isn’t going to happen, then why offer it in the first place? Why even tell me that it’s going to be done? This has happened on two occasions at two different locations, so it seems to be a company flaw. Other than that, it was a lovely evening.

Awesome steaks to compliment the wonderful service. All dishes were served in a timely manner, well spaced between appetizers, entre, and dessert. Sushi is okay considering it’s a ‘steakhouse’. I got to enjoy the tower of sushi for appetizers, a nice Italian barolo wine, the 12oz filet, with sides of creamed corn and sautéed asparagus, and a huge dessert that’s like a three serving Cannoli but with vanilla ice cream chocolate and salted caramel. The filet was truly med rare, a rather perfect med rare steak with an even red core. Its like they sous vide’d the steak. The steak was beautifully seasoned and just perfect. My first time, and I’m very pleased with the experience. Thanks mastro. :)

Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday and I found the experience subpar due to the service. Don’t get me wrong, food was divine, but I felt for the amount we are paying, the service should be a little better. Maybe it was the night we came but it was really lacking. I was hoping for a little more intimate setting but I felt we were crammed, so close to other parties, i basically heard everyone’s conversations. IT seemed too busy and overcrowded. At the beginning, there was only one server servicing out area when we came. It was so hard to flag her down and food came out awfully slow. By mid-meal, another server came but still, rarely anyone came to attend our table. I ordered the bone-in ribeye, medium rare, and it was cooked to perfection. It tender and so flavorful. Ordered the foie gras butter($ 15) to complement it, but could do without. Barely had any flavor to it. Also tried my friend’s truffle butter(also could’ve done without). Too pricey for something that lacked flavor. My boyfriend got the porterhouse with a side of crab legs. and ate the ENTIRETHING. With a few bites of mine. Also ordered the lobster mashed potatoes, gnocchi with Alaskan king crab, and of course, had to get French fries for the SO. I could’ve done without the fries. Absolutely LOVE the mashed potatoes, creamy and the lobster sauce that came with it was a match made in heaven. And if anyone knows, my addiction for corn knows no bounds, so having the creamed corn along steak was perfect. They give your a huge serving too, I could’ve been full with the sides alone. Although my friends didn’t enjoy the gnocchi, they thought it got too overbearing, my SO and I enjoyed it. There were nice pieces of sweet crab meat throughout. As our meal came to a close, we waited for the birthday cake to come out, what seemed like forever. And I’m not exaggerating, it was a good 20 minutes. Another table got there after us, but still got their birthday cake before us. Although we grew impatient, we were thankful for the party next to us, because once we got the cake, they graciously sang«Happy BIrthday»(and loudly at that) along with us. Not trying to be negative Nancy here, but even our bill took awhile to get. LIke I said earlier, the food was divine, but an incredible meal should include the food, ambience, and the service. Especially for what Mastro’s is known for, I was a little disappointed.

Subdued atmosphere. Attentive staff. Extensive wine list. Food so so. Prime rib ordered medium rare delivered red center. Asked to have cooked further and rather than saying no problem waitress challenged us by asking did we see the definition of medium rate on the web site? Did not know it was a prerequisite to view the web site before dining. Meat returned charred. Guess the cook wanted to prove a point. Asparagus too firm to the point root end unedible. Sauted spinach too salty. French onion soup too cheesey with little broth. Waiters too anxious to hustle our plates away – felt rushed. If one is going to pay these top prices one expects perfection. This place is great if you are trying to impress your client with the astronomical prices. Better to dine at Red Fish in Irvine. Sophisticated atmosphere, great food, impeccable service and it’s not so dark that one doesn’t know what the food look likes.

The only thing is the weight there was a line to get in then once we were in we had to wait another 30 min. But all in all great experience great food and bomb martinis

I really love this steak house. I was here for my 3rd time. I made reservations for valentine’s day(day before) was really busy but they sit you down really fast. It’s good to show up at least 15 minutes before your reservation. I always get the ribeye and it never disappoints. The sides are always amazing. The only negative I have was that my server was not as friendly this time. He was kind of rude when I asked him I didn’t see what he was referring to on the menu and he was like it’s right there. I explained I didn’t have my reading glasses. He apologized and then was more understanding. I will understand due to how busy they were that weekend. I will still be going back more times.

A very lovely restaurant. I made reservations weeks in advance for Valentine’s Day. The location is close to South Coast Plaza and not difficult to find at all. There is Valet parking that charged $ 6 outside the restaurant. After dropping off the car, we went inside and it was fairly nice. The stairs to the restroom is oddly pretty nice too haha. We got seated pretty quickly and arrived about 8 minutes before the reservation, and we got seated slightly early. The waitress was very kind, did the standard taking my date’s jacket and placing it on the chair, placed napkin/towel whatever on our laps, and got us some water. She asked us if it was our first time here, and was enthusiastic to answer any questions. Pretzel bread arrived, my date and I just found it okay. My date thought it was a bit salty, but I thought it was just whatever. The dim-lights was kinda nice for the evening and music was okay, nothing special. My date and I ordered the gorgonzola mac n cheese, salmon filet, and a normal filet. I have no clue why people think the gorgonzola mac n cheese was amazing or super tasty. It’s honestly very normal mac n cheese. I guess people don’t eat mac n cheese too often or something. But honestly, it’s really really average and normal… It’s not bad, but definitely nothing tasty or special. It was just a nice side to add onto the meal. My date did like her salmon filet and she tried a piece of my filet. The filet was pretty juicy and was good. We didn’t order too much food, since the portion sizes are meant for sharing(explained by waitress). I would like to try the lobster mashed potatoes next time though and other stuff. Overall, I had a pretty nice dinner. The service was pretty good, the atmosphere was romantic and nice, and the food was not bad. I’d say it’s definitely at least a 4 stars restaurant or slightly more. I would recommend going here on special events/occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, dates, and etc though. I would come here again!

My boyfriend took me here for our pre valentines dinner cause last year we tried dinner on Valentine’s Day and ended up with the worst service. We had a reservation at 10 and got seated around 10:30, a little seeing as those I had been saving myself for the dinner. We got seated on the second floor right I front of the live music. Our table was wobbly so we asked to be reseated. Got the crab stuffed mushrooms and those were great. The Mastros punch was pretty good as well. The bread served wasn’t so great a little hard. Once our entrees came out I was in heaven. The creamed corn was my absolute favorite, I highly recommend to anyone and everyone. We also got lobster mashed potatoes those were pretty good too. My steak was good but I should have gotten the rib eye like my boyfriend, his was amazing just too big for me. I loved it though. The chocolate layered cake was the best thing I have ever desired in a dessert. I don’t like chocolate either. The homemade whipped cream was just the icing on the cake, pun intended. Needless to say we can’t wait to go back. Superb service.

Went on Valentine’s Day for the first time with my bf. We we’re very happy with the service from the hostess to the waiters and everyone in between… very nice, polite and professional staff. I had petite filet and he had bone in filet… very tasty with the famous lobster mash and creamed corn. I didn’t take a pic of the dessert because we took it to go but hands down one of the best butter and cheesecake we have had. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon

Come on people, it isn’t thaaaaat great. It’s by no means a bad restaurant but not as grand as everyone makes it out to be. We ate here for Valentines Day. I made reservations a month in advance(yay me). We arrived on time and were seated right away. There are quite a few female hostesses up front. All friendly as well. I think they stuck us at an «added on» table. It was like an outer hallway they crammed tables into. What the hec? Really? The temperature of that room kept going from warm to cold and back throughout the night. Weird. Our server was very friendly and knew her shit. She was really on top of things. I don’t remember her name though. Anyways we had, sea scallops, ribeye, filet, lobster mashed potatoes, gorgonzola mac and cheese and butter cake for dessert. Also two cocktails. The best dish was definitely the sea scallops. Too bad you only get 3. My steak was hella fatty. I like fat on a steak but this steak was extra fatty. Like a 60⁄40 ratio, 60% meat and 40% fat. I didn’t even eat it all because after awhile it was downright disgusting to eat pure fat bite after bite. Everything else was just«aight». I probably wouldn’t order the mac and cheese again. My girlfriend makes better mac and cheese at home. They had live music there that night. They were playing lounge versions of modern hits like«hotline bling». It was kinda trippy but entertaining. Valet is $ 6. Free water bottles if you want it. I tipped our valet $ 5. I should’ve took 11 water bottles… lol. The entire dinner costs about $ 300. Was it worth it? I guess… as long as my girlfriend is happy.

Definitely my favorite steak house of all time. Doesn’t matter which kinda of cow cut you choose. You will love it all. The quality of the food here is always consistent and you will definitely enjoy it. The seafood tower is amazing and fresh. For the steak, I think bone in anything will give it an extra burst of flavor. The sides: lobster mash, cream corn, and sauté veggies are all delicious. The dessert here is also amazingballs. The butter cake and the chocolate cake are my 2 favorite desserts here.

A romantic choice meant to impress. Upscale décor, and servers wear stiff-looking uniform suits. Food is decent to good. Expect to drop about $ 150/pp. AMBIANCE: Equipped with 6pm reservations, we were promptly seated in what appeared to be an outdoor extension or covered patio. It was pretty dim-lit(patrons were encouraged by the waiters to use a flashlight in order to read the menu). Narrow aisles/walkways between tables — sometimes i felt the heavier-set waiters and food runners slightly brush against my hair or back. It was a little annoying, but unintentional so whatevs. On a brighter note, i really enjoyed the LIVEMUSIC playing over the speakers! The singers performed entertaining renditions of top-40 hits from Taylor Swift, the Weekend, and my favorite, Drake’s «Hotline Bling»! I only wish we were seated inside to watch it live. FOOD: We ordered the seared scallop appetizer(comes with 3 large pieces), the 8 oz. petite filet, the 22 oz. bone-in ribeye, the lobster mashed potatoes, the gorgonzola mac n cheese, and of course the warm butter cake for dessert. The highlight was definitely the sea scallops! Probably the best scallops I’ve ever had. Succulent, meaty, and well-seasoned. The gorgonzola mac n cheese was deliciously cheesy — every time you scoop for more, strings and strings of cheese follow! The butter cake was very rich, and when combined with the ice cream, so heavenly. Unfortunately, the famous lobster mash was pretty underwhelming — not as much lobster as I’d hoped, and the pieces I got were mostly the plastic-y part of the lobster claws. No fun. As for the steaks, my medium-rare filet was tasty, but I still prefer Ruth Chris’s rendition(also rendered in butter, but not as salty). My bf told me his ribeye had too much fat, and he normally loves the fatty pieces on steak! Whatever, he still ate most of it, artery-clogging and all. VALET($ 6) was fast, and friendly. Complimentary water bottles are offered while you wait for your vehicle. Nice touch. Overall, I’m glad I was finally able to experience Mastro’s. Next time, I’ll request seating by the live entertainment, and try the king crab gnocchi. The meal was heavy and high-sodium(as expected), so remember to drink lots of water after :) Also, I couldn’t help but crack up every time our waiter mentioned«truffle butter» as an add-on to our steaks! I wonder if the band covers Nicki Minaj?

A classic steakhouse is hard to beat for special occasions and business meals… Mastro’s delivers top notch experiences for both. Just got back from a valentines dinner here tonight and even with all the madness of all the Valentines guests, service was attentive, quick and friendly. When out for a nice meal, all one can wish for is good service, consistent delicious food and an inviting atmosphere to enjoy it in. Mastro’s delivered on all 3. My husband and I have dined at numerous Michelin starred restaurants, but we’ll continue to come back here because when you need a good steak, you can’t ever go wrong here. They serve prime 28 day wet aged meat that is seared off in a 1500degree oven. Their gnocchi is perfection! Everything is Served on HOT plates. Their management clearly takes pride in their establishment.

As usual, 5 stars!!! Five star service from Julian and partner Jose!!! We didn’t have to lift a finger and definitely soooo much better than Ruth Chris!!! We went from bar to table back to bar and they offered to take our drinks by tray-SEAMLESS!!! The food is well– seasoned! Hail to the Executive Chef! Natalie– hostess was so sweet! Great hire and extremely poised!!! Lobster mashed potatoes are loaded! Steak– handled with so much veneration Come on Fridays and Saturdays and enjoy the most current duet on the piano. Bring your date early and sit or stand by the bar. You will not be disappointed. The service is spectacular and the staff– gorgeous!

Not impressed. Restaurant and service were nice but our meal was no where near worth the price we paid. Would have expected the steaks we ordered to be melt in the mouth perfection. Sadly they were not. My wife’s rib eye though cooked perfectly was an exercise in chewiness. My son’s «tomahawk» while an extremely impressive presentation didn’t have the taste you’d expect from a piece of Wagu beef costing over $ 100. Not to be totally negative the foie gras appetizer we had really good. And the key lime pie that we had for desert was amazing. Still I highly doubt we’ll be back

I have to say, this is probably the best place for steak in OC. I have only gone here on special occasions, and each time I went, the service was nothing short of spectacular. They have a list wonderful wine selection and some signature cocktails. STEAK: Now, for every visit, my steak selection went from 12 oz, to a 6oz. They are HUGE and I can never finish it(due to the seafood tower, complimentary bread, and other appetizers that I might’ve order before the steak came out) I always tell myself(a recommend to everyone) to SKIPTHEBREAD! But gosh dang it, it’s stupid good, and you can’t help but eat more. The setting inside is dark, but romantic. There is someone singing and playing on the piano. So the atmosphere is pretty set if you’re going on a date. They also have valet parking, which is $ 6. OH! And their dessert menu! I also get so spoiled on my birthday and just have a bit of everything. The manager there(I forgot his name! shame on me) was super friendly and provided excellent service. Will recommend everyone here~!!

The service here is exceptional from the moment we got there for valet to the entire dinner and back out to our car. I was greeted happy birthday by multiple staff members which was a great little attention. The food was uh-may-zing! By far the most expensive steak house I’ve been to but their food was so good and I swear the portions are so big it lasted me 3 meals. Our waiter really up sold is on our steaks and we fell for it which so much left over steak to take him. I found it odd that when he served our sides he served my boyfriend first for both items. Especially since it was my birthday and because I’m a girl… My boyfriend even told me the waiter winked at him … Haha that was weird. Oh and he did spill the sides on my lap when serving me but it wasn’t a big deal. He gave me a new napkin. We originally ordered the lobster mash potatoes and Gorgonzola Mac and cheese. I ended up really hating the Mac and cheese because it was way too cheesy. We asked our waiter if we could switch it and he did so without a problem. I switched it for creamed corn and I loved that dish very much. The steak I chose was the rib eye. I normally get medium rare but the waiter talked me into getting medium for the rib eye. Sadly it was too medium for me with very little red meat. For dessert I got a complimentary birthday cake with homemade whip cream and man was it Delish!!! Overall I really enjoyed the meal and the experience. We will definitely come back for special occasions.

Why does this steakhouse have excellent food and service? Now, I feel horrible for my husband because how is he going to top this for our third wedding anniversary. We ordered the Seafood Tower with two orders of Shrimp Cocktails, Half a Dozen Oysters, and Alaskan King Crab Legs. The shrimp was a bit dry and the oysters tasted a bit squishy and slimy compared to the one at Oyster Bar at Palace Station in Vegas, which are sweet and juicy; however, they were still good though. The Alaskan King Crab Legs were made just right that you can just eat it without the melted butter. For our entrées, my husband ordered the 24 oz. Porterhouse and I ordered the 33 oz. «Chef’s Cut» Ribeye Chop. The porterhouse was cooked how my husband likes it, medium-rare, which is a big plus, since this would make-it or break-it for any steakhouse for us. My ribeye chop was cooked perfectly rare, and yes, I opted for a room temperature plate because I don’t like my steak cooking while I’m eating as I am a slow eater. The seasoning on the steak was marvelous with a slight crunch to it. The ribeye was so tender and juicy that when I tasted my husband’s porterhouse, it wasn’t as tender as mine. The sides that we ordered was the Lobster Mashed Potatoes and Alaskan King Crab Black Truffle Gnocchi. The lobster mashed potatoes was mouth-watering that even writing this review makes me want to eat it now. The lobster was nice a tender and juices just flowing down my mouth. I have to admit that I have never been to a restaurant who gives such a generous amount of lobster pieces. The Alaskan King Crab Black Truffle Gnocchi was delicious as well, another generous amount of crab meat too and the truffle oil makes me salivate. Of course, we couldn’t finish the sides, but regret not eating it all because the very next day, they were super salty. So Unilocalers, make sure you eat all your appetizers, entrees and sides before getting a doggy bag; even though, the bag and the to-go boxes are very nice. The dessert that was given to us complimentary due to our second wedding anniversary was the Triple Layer Chocolate Cake. Wow! This cake was amazing and not too sweet, but the freshly made whipped cream was the best! I just regret that I didn’t have enough room for the Mastro’s Signature Warm Butter Cake… Sigh. Maybe next time. Overall, the experience at Mastro’s Steakhouse in Costa Mesa was great! The service was spectacular, the servers were attentive and made sure our first experience was well worth it. I’m so glad that they went above and beyond, not like Stinking Rose in Beverly Hills for our first wedding anniversary. I would highly recommend coming here, even if it is once in your lifetime as this place isn’t cheap, but it is definitely worth it.

Im just gonna keep this mostly short and simply because this is Mastro’s and everyone knows that Mastro’s is the business. I had a last minute trip that went up in flames due to unforeseen circumstances so with that being said I ended up here on my Saturday night after open tables came through with a table for me to reserve. We came through and I instantly fell in love with the service. So nice, friendly and professional, much more than I could have asked for. Everyone was simply lovely. The atmosphere was beautiful. We were seated, glanced at the menu and was ready to rock and roll. We both were craving a mean steak so this was definitely the place to be. Dinner was amazing. You get what you pay for and it doesn’t get any better than Mastro’s. The steak quality was top notch, the meat was extremely tender, and the flavors were heavenly to the point where I had to savor every bite slowly just so I can enjoy it. The texture was simply marvelous. The cream corn was surprisingly really good. I recently got into cream corn and this was one of the better ones I’ve had. Great balance of creaminess and the corn together. The mash potatoes were pretty good too though but to be honest I wasn’t trying to fill up so much on starch. The lobster mac was amazing, I could have eaten it all night. My friend really liked the steak too but I didn’t ask in details how her meal was. I assumed it was good lol. Overall I had a wonderful experience at Mastro’s. I originally wanted to take my best friend here for her birthday last year but things just kept coming up so I might be returning soon for that dinner. Great service, top quality food, and a wonderful décor… what is not to love about Mastro’s.

5 years later, Mastros still a top overall choice. Everyone has their flavor and apeals to their palate, but you’ll rarely ever hear the utter words«I disliked Mastros» or had a bad experience. Still top notch in my book! Highly recommended!

Everything a steakhouse should be Reservations is highly encouraged. Every time I have been here and have tried to get reservations and almost always I cannot get the timing I want. It was even the case on a weekday. The last time I came here I came in party of four people. We made reservations for 8:15pm. Once we arrived, our table was not ready yet so we went to the bar. I ended up getting a dirty martini and it was the strongest dirty martini I had ever had. I watched the bartender pour 3 large shoots of vodka and barely a splash of olive juice. I wasn’t complaining though. I loved that the bartender had the option of blue cheese olives instead of just regular olives. We waited for about 20 minutes having our drinks then finally got seated. We ended up not getting the table we wanted in the lounge but that’s okay. Once seated, our waiter introduced himself and got us more drinks. We told him we were waiting for one other person that was lagging. He was really good about not rushing us. Once everyone was at the table, we went with the following and its’ description: Seafood Tower– You get the option of four seafood items. I think we just went with three items. It was crab, oysters, jumbo shrimps. They had a variety of oysters to choose from. I told the waiter to just bring out both East and West coast ones. I thought the oysters were okay. The crab and the jumbo shrimps were the best. Especially the shrimp. The tower came out beautifully presented with dry ice. It also came with cocktail sauce, tarter sauce, and a lot of horseradish, which I like. The quality of everything was fresh and enjoyable. Bone Marrow– An order is one bone split in two that has been grilled I think. I didn’t have any but I heard it was very good. Bone-In Ribeye– Probably the best you will ever have in your life. Wagyu Kobe Style Bone-In Ribeye– They said this was from Australia and it was the special for the night. Actually I lied about earlier. This is the best you will ever have. Literally melted in your mouth. Medium rare was cooked perfectly. No sauces needed. It was just seasoned with salt and pepper but you did not anything else. Cream of Corn– It was extra creamy. I thought it was good. Grilled Button Mushrooms– Who doesn’t like button mushrooms. They went well with the steak and seabass. Seabass– This was my order. I asked for my seabass to be cooked to warm in the middle because I like it a little under cooked. It was extra flaky and tasted super buttery. It was amazing and everyone else loved it too. Butter cake– It definietly lives up to it’s hype. It’s super buttery and super sweet but it all goes together well. It was served with some whip cream on the side and topped with a very vanilla-y ice cream. I would describe it similar to an up-side-down pineapple cake but without the pineapple. It had a tarte sauce drizzled on top with some strawberries around. The presentation was just as beautiful as to how it tasted. It is the perfect ending to your meal. Our total was a little over $ 300 for the four of us. We were full and even left with some left-overs. As for service, our waiter took good care of us. Even though they had a «water conservation» BS rule, he made sure our drinks were filled. We also got some Pellogrino. He was also really good about us taking our time since we had someone arriving a little late. All requests were done perfectly and he was attentive the entire time. He was also funny and great to chat with. When we finished eating, we went to the bar/lounge for some live music. The ambiance of this place is intimate and chic. The setting is beautiful and can be good for large groups or just two. The restaurant is divided into sections. They have a lounge/bar downstairs and two dining area. They have also have rooms that you can book out upstairs for small parties or large parties. I have been lucky enough to have been to a wedding here before in the past. Their service and food for that was also outstanding. Mastro’s has always been a good time with good food and drinks. You really can’t go wrong with it.

Everyone loves Mastro’s. I have been a few times but I think the last time was my favorite. Private room, wine following and getting to order whatever you want on the menu. I love my job. ;) My favorite appetizer was the shrimp cocktail, not only are they HUGE but they come with dry ice.(Very cool.) I ordered as my main course the filet and lobster tail. I love seafood so the lobster was amazing. The filet was good too they have a great rub here. And to finish the Mastro’s signature warm butter cake… So good, like buttah. I think it is a great place to bring clients.

Came here for my husband’s birthday. We had reservations. for 5pm and arrived early and they seated us right away. We opted to park in the structure, which ended up costing more than valeting it at Mastro’s. Anywho, after being seated we ordered an iced tea and flat tire. After getting our drinks we ordered oysters rockerfeller and crab cakes. My husband loved both of them. I thought they were both too salty. For my entrée, I ordered the bone in rib eye(22 oz.). My husband ordered the blackened Chilean sea bass. For our sides, we ordered the lobster mashed potatoes and sautéed broccoli. Everything was delicous. The steak was cooked perfectly. It wasn’t tough or dried out. The sides were also delicous with the large chunks of lobster in the mashed potatoes. My husband loved his fish. It was melt in your mouth good. After the meal, they brought out a slice of chocolate cake for my husband. We also shared the mango sorbet. It was very refreshing and 2 scoops was more than enough for 2 people. Service was on point. My iced tea was always refilled before I was half way done with it. They were very attentive. The only complaint has nothing to do with the restaurant. It has to do with the people dining here. This place is supposed to be fancy yet I see people dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, men and women. Put some effort please. How embarrassing? Don’t you people feel out of place? Anywho, we will most definitely come back!!!
