If you want more authentic Mexican, it’s about(finger pointing SE) 1300 miles that way! This is the country store with the Matriarch cooking behind the counter. Great food, weird setting and nice people. If you go get the Barrilitos tamarind soda(no beer); I don’t even know what a tamarind is but I like it.

SOSO glad I finally made it to this place. After finding it on Unilocal and reading the reviews I thought, «yeah right… authentic Mexican… no such thing in Indiana!» As you can tell by my 5 stars I was wrong! Don’t be taken back by the location, building and atmosphere upon entry. It’s more like a bodega(Mexican for mini-mart or small grocery store) with a counter for ordering food with the most random compilation of items you can imagine and a bit sparse in the very center which leaves you standing in the open feeling a bit out of place. However, look up to your right and start deciding what you want to mow down on… the little Hispanic ladies behind the counter will work hard to prepare your meal, all fresh and homemade(English speaking is minimal). We decided upon several items(going Tony Bourdain style) since I knew it would be a while before I would be back and I really wanted to check out the«authenticity». Having lived in Tucson, AZ for 20 years, my perspective is massively skewed. Needless to say, the reviews were spot on. We tested the tamales, tortas, tacos and corn masa thingy that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of. Everything was absolutely amazing, especially the corn masa thingy! The tamale was perfect and not dried out like most around here. The best part was that it wasn’t covered in processed cheese sauce! And the tacos were exactly as a taco should be! More street taco in nature, with 2 small corn tortillas, lightly fried, meat, onion and plenty of cilantro with limes on the side. I wish this place wasn’t so darn far away because more than likely I would eat here daily! Till we meet again Tenda El’ Probedor!

I love this family owned, Mexican home cooking restaurant. Actually, I can’t even call it a restaurant. It’s more like sitting down at your grandmothers kitchen table, she asks you what you’re in the mood for, and then simply brings you wonderful food. Friday’s are for fresh cooked rojo & verde tamales. They sell out quickly. Most everything is $ 2 each. Don’t be turned off by the location or the lack of a true storefront. Yeah, it’s hidden in the backside of a metal building, but the food speaks for itself. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent food! Worth the 5 min drive off the interstate. The parking lot was full, but we still had fast service. Oh yeah, and they have free wifi :)

From the street, you can’t see it. From the parking lot, you *still* can’t see it. But if you walk around the side of the building, there it is, an authentic little no-frills outpost. One of my favorite things about the rural midwest is that the landscape is dotted with these little Mexican places, and one of my favorite things about Unilocal is that it helps me find them. Basically it’s a kitchen and dry goods store, with a couple of tables set up in back. The tacos we ordered were well prepared, and we were excited to leave with a couple of tamales(which are only prepared on weekends). I’d have been more excited about the experience if it weren’t for the fact that the meat on my milanesa torta was so tough that I had to give up wrestling with it. But on the whole, our lunch was quite good, service was very friendly, and we’ll probably come back sometime.

Awesome. Best and freshest Mexican food in town. Definitely try the lengua tacos, really tender and super flavorful even without any added salsa. The onions, lime, cilantro and everything else are literally prepared fresh right before your eyes when you order.

Good Mexican food at a really good price. This place isn’t fancy or upscale at all but the food is very tasty. If Kentuckiana wants to know what real Mexican food tastes like, come here and forget about the craptastic ‘authentic Mexican’ restaurants that populate this part of the U.S.

Authentic food. Excellent. We just wish we had known it was just around the corner from our house, sooner. The place is hidden, we have driven by several times a day and never seen it. My husband just brought home dinner from this place and I could eat it everyday, authentic, simple, real and delicious.
