The owner did apologize to me which does take class. It sounds like no, the employee was not actually stealing from the store, he just happened to misplace the log of us checking out the body boards the same day the credit card machine stopped working. Was the employee still being absolutely rude for no reason? Yes. But the owner apologized and I’m guessing that after this go around no other customer will treated this badly again at island surf.

Bad customer service! They couldn’t take credit or debit cards. Also, we asked for the best way to get to the beach and he refused to tell us. He told us to go across the street to the Vistor Center and ask since «that was what our tax dollars pay for». He still refused to help even when we had a difficult time finding the Visitor Center.

Great customer service. I tore my wetsuit and was looking for some neoprene seal and the guy who picked up the phone stayed open late just to make sure i got it. i will definitely be going back there for anything i need.

I got a really good deal on souvenirs for my family while on vacation! Three Cali (very soft cotton) Tshirts for $ 20 and a few post cards/​keychains etc.
Also the staff was helpful for finding a local bite to eat :)

This place is the real deal. We came here after going to Emerald City and it just had a more local, homey feel. The employees were very nice. I wanted a t-​shirt for an event that had recently happened on the island, and I wasn’t able to find it anywhere else — but Island Surf had it!

Tourist surf shop! If you’re a local, go somewhere else. Rude people who would rather watch surf videos on their iPad at the front desk than actually help local surfers who want to shop local. Sorry for asking questions… I guess that’s not cool. I’ll take my business to Surf Hut in Imperial Beach.
