La Ambatenita Bakery serves homemade Ecuadorian pastries and meals con gusto. From empanadas, tamales, café, y pan, there are plenty of options to snack on and sample. They have loyal local clientele. There are enough seats for about 10 people, max. Hubby and I had a quick lunch here before going to the New York Hall of Science for a date. In addition to the pastries, there is a short steam table with various offerings. I pointed to the roast pork and the lamb stew. The lovely lady behind the counter added beet salad, lettuce, homily, rice, a potato patty(llapingachos?), and fried corn kernels. She also spoke great English, saving me from breaking out the high school Spanglish skillz. The portions were very large(we should have split a plate, but where’s the fun in that?). I did not have room for dessert. In addition, the meal was pretty cheap, amazingly delicious, and well worth the adventure.

This is an Ecuadorian Bakery. The best thing in this place is the sweet bread, you can eat it plain or ask to put some butter, this makes a yummy a great breakfast, or anytime snack. I think they have also food, but I am not sure how good it is. Ecuadorian bread, is good and I will go again to get sweet bread. Yum! oh the counter person is not fluent in English, be ready to communicate by pointing at what you want. =)

Ride the 7 line out to the 111th St. stop. Get off the train and walk into this place. It’s a bakery with a limited Mexican-food offerings. All is fresh, yummy, and cheaply priced. We had a little bit of a language issue between my English and the gal’s Spanish but we both understood that I wanted the goods under the counter. I pointed and said, «What’s inside?» She smiled and gave me 1 word answers! It was great. I started with a chocolate-dipped cookie and an apple turnover. I finished the two and walked back to the counter to load up with goodies for the next day. The beef empanada stole the show but the fried plantain and café la leche was plenty good as well. I seriously tried to spend money with these guys but my entire order came to $ 9. Hand-made, fresh empanadas for a buck-fifty?! Apple turnovers for a dollar? Are you kidding me?
