Excellent food and service — low prices. No wait on Sunday morning. good atmosphere, not overly noisy. They have their own parking lot. What more could one want?

Nice atmosphere, like a traditional American diner. Food was greasy and oily, had the ruby classic burger. Service and kids entertainment were great.

Fun Fifties diner atmosphere without being too over the top. Delicious food that tastes homemade. Clean. Wonderful service. Came here for breakfast, got exactly what I wanted. I also noticed something awesome — looking around the restaurant, everyone was eating while reading the newspaper, not a cellphone in sight. What a step out of time!

Every time we come to California we find a Ruby’s to eat. We love it here. The only problem is the uniforms. Mini skirts with overweight waitresses does not go together. Kind of made me a little ill when she would bend over and you could see it all.

Watch your receipts. We just received a notice from our CC company that our $ 5 tip was changed to a $ 25 tip. Obviously this has ruined one of our once favorite burger joints, we won’t be back…

I just don’t care what anyone else has to say about this place. Ruby’s Diner is my favorite burger. .. hands down. .. all bets off. Ruby’s ROCKS. Their fries are to die for(yes, I ended in a preposition). To all of you In & Out snobs: Ruby’s Diner is better! I say this and I like In & Out. Addressing the Less-Than-5-Star Reviews: Granted — if you go on a busy, summer day, service will be lacking. IT’S A TINYPLACE! You’ll just have to go during the off-season. I have been going to Ruby’s since the 1980’s. I have yet to try something bad from the menu — even the new stuff. NOONE can touch their shakes! The closest thing I’ve had to rival a Ruby’s burger is a Fudrucker’s Kobe Burger. Slater’s 50⁄50 burgers and Famous Dave’s are a close 2nd place. They just have a «heavy» taste and are greasy as heck(not like that’s a bad thing!). Ruby’s Diner is just one of those rare California gems that can keep up with anything from the East Coast. PS — Closing down the Ruby’s in the Riverside Galleria was a great crime to humanity! It was packed every day we went. I’m not sure why they did that.

Ruby’s Diner New Slogan Choices: Taking you back to yesteryear… except the part with customer service, we’re solidly in the present with our lack of! Where we treat everyone like family, unless you’re not a regular, in which case, we’ll ignore you for 15 minutes once you’re seated! The local place where everyone comes to eat, just not everyone gets to eat! TL; DR — sat right away, ignored for 15 minutes, went next door to Panini Café and was served promptly(both were packed, difference is in ownership)

This is the most reliable breakfast(at or under $ 12) and burger in the most up scale area of CdM. The service is great and the food is not ‘big corporate tasteless’. Very reliable.

It’s Ruby’s. They’re everywhere. The food is consistent. The service here is soooooo slow & bad it really hurts. So, there was a little wait. Not to bad. The waitress came in a decent time to take our drink orders. She took longer to deliver them. Then it just got worse. Service was awful. At that time we were ready to order, but she immediately turned away. She said she’d be right with us but then went to 3 other tables and never came back. I’m sitting here right now waiting waiting waiting… Waiting… We’re not ready to go because the food is decent and were hungry after a long day at the beach. So finally she came and took our order but I’m not sure how much longer we waited for the food. Not very good at turning tables or earning tips. We usually give 20% even for OK service but no so much this time.

Amazing little food place. I got Ruby’s apple, pecan, and bleu cheese salad. It was the best salad I’ve ever had!!! Then as we were leaving the parking lot the waitress came running outside. She had our card that we left. She knew we were traveling and wanted to make sure we had it. Overall everything was great. The old school cherry coke was fabulous. The staff was great too.

Stopped in for breakfast and had a guacamole cheeseburger and fries(yes, for breakfast). I’ve eaten in a number of rubies and they seem to always be good this one was no exception the place was really clean and the food was excellent. It’s also nice they have convenient parking across the street with their own designated lot. However, the best part was the friendliness of both the greeter and the waitstaff they went out of their way to make sure everyone in the restaurant felt welcome they kept my ice tea glass full and did an outstanding job of making sure I was being taken care of. I can tell a number of locals walked in who didn’t even need a menu what’s always surprising was I was visiting for my first time and was treated the same way I would definitely go back to this location.

Ruby’s was A-OK. Delicious burgers and milk shakes. Adequate service and timeliness. Reasonable prices. We had a very good lunch at Ruby’s and I would happily go back there again.

The kiddos and I were in the area today, and walked in to be greeted by the owner who seated us right away at the counter. We love sitting at the counter, as it’s full of restaurant fun… right by the grill, the cash register, and«no whining babies» as my big ten year-old phrases it. Our food arrived without delay and tasted fresh and delicious, our milkshakes were perfect, and everything in the place was clean and sparkling. There’s even a track where two vintage cars drive around by the ceiling. I’d definitely go back if I’m in the area again. The staff are so polite! Everyone checked on us several times, and I felt like a valued customer.

For some reason my mom is obsessed with Ruby’s and always wants to go there for lunch when we get together with my sister and her kids. We’ve been to a number of other Ruby’s locations and this one is one of the older and smaller ones. Their lot was already full when we got there so we had to find parking on the street, but luckily it wasn’t too far away. We also had a hard time finding seating big enough for handle 4 adults and 2 kids. There was already a party occupying the one area where they could push a couple of tables together, so we opted to sit in 2 adjacent booths, which wasn’t ideal but we didn’t have to wait. Ruby’s in general is a good place for kids – they have those paper cars to assemble, coloring sheets, lots of kid-friendly items on the menu and those gumball machines when they’re done eating and invariably want to roam around the joint. I wasn’t terribly hungry so I just ordered a Cobb Salad but boy did I regret it. It was one of the worst Cobbs I’ve had, just basically some shredded(not chopped) iceberg lettuce with deli turkey meat, bacon, avocado and olives piled on top(no egg!). It was pretty meh; I should’ve just ordered a burger – those are usually decent. That’s what I get for trying to order«light», ugh. Everyone else was happy with their meals, though, and my mom and the kids had a good time so while that was good I think I’d rather go to their location on 2nd St in Long Beach next time; I’ve had much better experiences there. STEPHJUDGEMENT: Not good for larger parties, and stay away from the salads.

It was our first time at this location, and I must say that the owner(or possibly the manager) gave us the nicest hello as we walked in the door. Both of us remarked on how friendly he was. He really seemed to like his job and provided great customer service. This is a cute restaurant. Like all the other Ruby’s locations we’ve been to, this one is also decorated in the 50’s diner theme with the Coca-Cola posters up everywhere. For the owner/manager, this restaurant seemed to be a labor of love. My son ordered the kids’ Chicken Tender meal, and I ordered the BBQ Chicken Burger. My son’s meal was very basic but still good. Although my burger had tons of bbq sauce, the chicken itself was just too dry. My son ordered the kids’ sundae for dessert, and it was amazing! One thing that could be improved upon is about getting rid of that strong mildew smell in the bathroom. When we went to wash up, the smell was so overpowering. The restaurant does look really clean, but that smell did curb our appetites a bit. I think this restaurant is a nice, friendly spot to grab some lunch. The service was truly wonderful here. With a few minor changes this restaurant could really thrive!

We had a very nice experience here after attempting the Ruby’s Shake Shack on the hill. Our server was very kind to us and brought a cool, folding paper car for our baby and some whole milk in a cup with a lid. This is a solid burger, fries, and most definitely shake place. My heart is still with the Ruby’s on the Seal Beach pier(now gone), but this probably my second favorite location.

This is really not a great restaurant. We split a «frings»(basket of fries and onion rings), and I ordered the GoFit burger, which came with salad. I also had a cherry Sprite, which was the high point of my meal. The fries were not good. They were not crispy and a little tough, like they had been sitting for a while, though they were still warm. Since it was pretty busy when we went and our food took a while, maybe they had been sitting out. But the onion rings were pretty good. The GoFit patty itself tasted pretty good. I had never heard of this brand of veggie patty. For the curious, it’s vegetarian but not vegan. But as a whole my sandwich was dry and, oddly enough, poorly assembled. There was a big chunk of lettuce on one edge of the burger, and tomatoes on the other edge, like someone couldn’t be bothered to cut up the lettuce and arrange it properly. Not only did this make it hard to eat, but it also meant I could have either a mouthful of lettuce or a mouthful of tomato, depending on which side of the burger I took a bite from. There was a dollop of «Ruby’s Sauce» on it, which wasn’t enough to help the dryness and didn’t have much flavor, though it looked like mayo. The bun was actually good. The side salad that came with the burger was a standard mix of iceberg lettuce, a cherry tomato, a few cucumber slices, olives, and croutons. Some of the lettuce was yellow, which I picked out, but the rest was… well, a standard iceberg lettuce salad. It came in one of those plastic bowls that my high school cafeteria used to serve soup in, just to give you an idea of the size. We didn’t order dessert. We were afraid it would take forever to show up, and after spending $ 30 on a meal that really wasn’t good, we had no desire to give them more money. Our waitress was very sweet, but much too busy. She didn’t have time to come back and refill our drinks very often. We saw her constantly working very hard, so that isn’t her fault at all. The management here needs to hire more people. At one point they ran out of glasses – I guess no one had time to wash them – and had to give everyone to go cups. If you asked for a refill, they brought you another paper cup and plastic lid, which is very wasteful. The bathroom trash can was full and there were paper towels all over the floor – probably because no one had time to clean it. Seriously, hire more people.

Pretty solid burger joint! Everyone knows about Ruby’s, and you really can’t go wrong with them. This particular location is located off PCH in the heart of Newport Beach. My boyfriend and I came here around 1pm on a Sunday. It was pretty busy, but we were able to get a seat right away. The server came out a few minutes later and we placed our order. We both got the Mushroom Swiss Burger(we’re so easy!), which came with fries. I also ordered a Diet Coke, my boyfriend a water. Ruby’s has tons of burgers, as well as other items(breakfast food and other sandwiches). I also noticed they serve alcohol(but only a couple of beers). Both my boyfriend and I loved our meal, and we ate practically everything on our plates. The burger was perfectly made with just the right amount of mushrooms and sauces. I loved it! I usually don’t like fries for some reason, but the ones at Ruby’s were really good — they weren’t over or under cooked or soggy(which seems to always be the issue for me). Service was really good. My only grips were our server gave us our check as soon as our food came out. I felt rushed and like we should leave right away. Also, I could overhear a couple of the servers complaining while they were in the kitchen(which was right next to our booth) about the cons of their job. I didn’t like hearing this and felt like they should leave that for private. Overall, nice place to eat and I’d come back to this location again in the future! Cheers!
