Went here last weekend to buy some beer and maybe a gift bottle for a friend’s bbq. The beer on ice was dirty, which I guess is ok if you want to wash off your beer cans, but isn’t great when you are arriving at a friend’s house as a guest. So far, not the worst place on earth and maybe a customer’s sandy hands or bag got all over the ice and beers. When I asked the checkout person about bourbons, I got a hard sales pitch for something more expensive that I didn’t want. I understand that they need to make a living, but after I politely decline and express interest in my original request, just oblige me and give me what I want. If I wasn’t late to the bbq I would have walked somewhere else. At the bbq, I told my friends about Del Mar Wine & Spirits and they all said that they never go because the prices are too high and the customer service is either rude or always up selling with nothing in between. As this is Corona Del Mar, they can probably get away with high prices, but I would skip the customer service experience and walk a few blocks to another store.
