Kind of hidden behind the visitor’s center in Pine Island, but it was worth finding. Good seafood, a little on the spicy side, which was how I like it. Service was outstanding. Seemed like a family ran restaurant. Prices were not bad for a seafood restaurant.

We have eaten here twice. The first time was with a group during a very busy dinner hour. The experience was not great. But my husband and I decided to give it a second chance on our last evening in Corolla. We ate at the bar. The bartender was a Steeler fan! We’re from the Pittsburgh area, so needless to say, we hit it off. We ordered Corn Fritters for starters. Yummy! They were so good, I totally filled up on them. My choice for dinner was the chowder, hubby had a cup of the chowder and the meatloaf dinner. The food was very good, the service, too. I recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for a mid-priced meal in a restaurant with a pretty good atmosphere.

i had the dutchman on a pretzel roll and it was pretty good. the place was dead for lunch, but i checked it out thanks to Unilocal and the 4-star was spot on. the children’s menu was a bit pricey however. i’m still wondering why i paid $ 7 dollars for a pb&j.

We stay two weeks in The Currituck Club every summer and are always looking to try a new place or two. This one opened last year and it’s almost within walking distance so it made the cut. Our party of nine was quickly seated and I began to peruse the menu and get concerned… Meat Loaf, Fried Chicken… ummm My worry quickly turned to Joy as I saw Shrimp and Grits and ordered it up! We tried almost everything on the menu and all were above average with a couple being truly memorable meals. The Fried Pickels were a hit, the Scallops-also excellent, and the Shrimp and Grits were a very original and tasty take on one of my favorite dishes. Overall this is one of the best spots north of duck and has a wide variety of dishes that are all quality. The chef has training from Johnson and Wales and it showed in his well thought out approach to dishes. We’ll be back.

Odd menu. Another reviewer described it as southern comfort food and Pennsylvania dutch comfort food. That would be odd enough, and that doesn’t explain the pierogi I had as an appetizer. The food was ok. I had a fish special, which was unusually boring despite a range of ingredients that should have been interesting. Everyone else in the group ordered ordinary comfort food and pronounced it ordinary. Not bad, not good, just ok. Ditto the service.

A really great place. Had the chance to talk at length with Doug(the owner) & he is a truly genuine guy with a love for cooking. Essentially, his menu is Southern comfort food with a good amount of seafood & a touch of Pennsylvania Dutch thrown if for good measure. The hush puppies, which start off your meal, are amazing. For dinner, I had a cracklin pork shank with mac & cheese and succotash. Everything tasted delicious & was obviously made with care. Beer list was OK — finally tried Yuengling Lager(a Pennsylvanian beer). Doug said he was planning on expanding his beer offerings. Definitely a place I wouldn’t mind returning to.

I got married on the beach across the street from The Flying Dutchman. So, an hour or two before the ceremony, I wanted a bar to sit down at, enjoy a few Fat Tires, watch college football wtih my groomsmen, then walk over to the beach for the ceremony. I had no idea the Flying Dutchman was there and originally was going to go to Metropolis. They were closed. So, Flying Dutchman was my choice by default as the only other bar in the Ocean Club Centre. What a great turn of luck. The bar itself would have gotten 5 stars. They have a wide range of beers to choose from, a flat screen TV set up, and a very friendly and jovial bartender. I think I got there at a very slow time, so we had the bar to ourselves. The menu looked good but I didn’t want to eat too much since there was the reception and whatnot to look forward to. I ordered the corn fritters, which were OK but nothing exceptional. I think they did as much as they could do with deep fried corn meal, but I found it to be too big of a fritter and thus a bit dry. The red pepper sauce was OK but not enough. The rest of the menu looked very good, some decent comfort food, and judging from the service I received at the bar, I’d expect friendly and attentive service at dinner as well. The bartender also offered a wedding shot for me right before we left which was a nice touch and won’t be forgotten as a part of a special day. Just off of the friendliness, I’d come here for dinner on my next trip to Corolla. Well worth a try on your next trip to Corolla, especially considering many of the local sit down restaurants are serving overpriced dreck.
