This year(Feb 3) will mark the 30th Annual Wildlife Tasting Supper. This event has grown in popularity immensely for over a decade. My first time attending a dozen years ago there were a hundred or so people in attendance. Dishes offered were made from wild game with deer being the most widely used. My most recent visit was much different than my first. There were over 600 people and over 150 dishes entered. The creativity and meat choices were much more diverse, using squirrel, bear, wild boar, duck, wild turkey, caribou, trout and elk. No store bought dishes are allowed to enter the tasting to compete for the monetary prizes, which have increased. In the past there was a door fee of about $ 6.00 per adult and $ 5.00 for children. They have added the option of free admission with one wildlife dish in lieu of the increased $ 10.00 door fee. There is always a prayer said before the serving begins. There are raffles for bikes for the kids and rifles for youth and adults. There are so many people in attendance in recent years that you fellowship with strangers because you are usually packed in rather closely to them. This year there is another option for people not ready to taste the wild side. Rollin’ Rumps BBQ Catering and Vending will cook barbecue and hot dogs.
