Tuckahoe Seafood

I’ve been to Tuckahoe Seafood many times over the years, every time that I make it back to Maryland to see family I make sure that I stop in there. The steamed crabs are perfect and softshells are among the best that I’ve ever had-​they even ship seafood to us in California-​amazing!
I really like this place-​give it a try.

Teresa runs the small store and her husband, Dale, catches the crabs and the seafood. Amazing crabs! The BEST!!! I’m from the Baltimore area, and grew up in MD so I know crabs for the most part. I come down to this area to visit family in the summer and steamed crabs from here are a must. We used to drive down to the St. Michael’s to the crab claw. But these are by far the best in the area and right up the street. Their prices are fair (remember these are MD blue crabs we’re talking about). Also pick up some locally grown produce. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and it’s best call ahead for hard shells.

So… this place came up on my GPS as a restaurant, so we drove a bit out of the way… only to find out that this was a seafood market. Fail. That’s what happens when I don’t use Unilocal.
Anyway. Besides Phillip’s Seafood in DC and grocery store Seafood sections, I’ve never been to a seafood market. We had no idea what to order, and… worse – where to eat it, because there was no place to sit down for millessss. The ladies there were nice, I guess, but weren’t really helpful in helping us make our decision. We felt clueless… but we felt more clueless and lame after talking to them. Sadface.
Ended up getting about a dozen crabs (which were extra seasoned, but pretty delicious) and 5lb (?) of crab dip. Everything was reasonably priced, but the shop was kind of small and service was decent. In the middle of nowhere… they were selling other stuff outside, though, which was pretty cool. There WERE a lot of people stopping by to pick up orders, though, so they must do something right… we just didn’t know what!
The crab dip was a major disappointment :(I followed the directions, and the dip was still pretty runny, minimal crab, and the crab that was in there involved some shellage and other inedible parts. Needless to say, I probably won’t be going out of my way to stop by again.
