I love this place, it’s an old fashioned mom and pop supermarket that has also kept up with the times. Owner operated, you get such great service and I frequently see the owners carrying groceries out to the car for old ladies and people with their arms full… That goes a long way with me. The deli here is the place that I frequent most for lunch in West Concord, in our office we have always called it «Grumpy’s». This nickname was given because of the old guy who used to work at the deli counter… He was super grumpy, but endearing at the same time. The guys who work there now are great too. Other than the service, the thing that makes Grumpy’s great is that the meats are so fresh! Once in a while they offer Angus tenderloin subs that are AMAZING, you never know when they will have them though, you just have to go regularly. On that note, ask the older deli guy about their meats, he is so passionate, he’s like Bubba and shrimp in Forrest Gump. West Concord Market also has a salad bar, don’t laugh when you see it, it’s tiny, but the salad is ridiculously fresh. They sell it by the pound and give you a piece of bread that has been had wrapped in seran wrap that day. They even have chicken, ham and steak. It is located in a cooler in the rear left corner of the market. I obviously can’t say enough about this place, just go and support them as a local business and you’ll see why they have such great reviews. Oh, they have a decent selection of beers and wines as well… Ok, I’m done now!

I wandered in here during a day of exploring in Concord planning to grab a Diet Coke and beeline it outta there. But as soon as I walked inside I was immediately puzzled— aisles of groceries, toiletries, home goods and other WTFitems. At first glance you walk in and things feel haphazard. Oh here’s the freezer section, HungryMan dinners alongside … baby food and diapers? Look they carry beer and wine! Next to a whole aisle of paper products ready to handle even the toughest 6th grade science project. It took me a few to understand the aisle layout but then I thought to myself… «Waaaaait-a-minute!» These random items populating the shelves are actually awesome. Great selection of quality US brands plus hard to find candies, dried foods(chips, cookies) and other items from the UK. And they have a killer deli section in the back for sandwiches and prime cuts of meat. They also have a salad bar and other lunch options available(that day they were featuring homemade Meat Loaf and soups!) I also learned as I flung my Diet Coke and armful of impulse purchases onto the checkout counter that the West Concord Super Market has been up and running for almost 93 years! Not too shabby.

The West Concord Supermarket is a family-owned business and a great asset to West Concord. They have a nice selection of wines and beers, imported candies and other foods from the UK, an excellent butcher and an amazing variety of foodstuffs for a relatively small store. Well worth going to.

Great place, but one negative is their limited hours. They close early(7pm) and are closed on Sundays. Which limits my chances for shopping there to just Saturdays. Pushing the hours to 8pm or 9pm even a few days a week would help expand their market to busy professional couples. Otherwise you’re stuck going to Stop & Shop.

I’ll be coming back… That’s for sure. Fantastic deli. I’ve lived nearby for years, but for some reason never came in… I just thought it was your normal Mom and Pop. It’s more like a combo of a Mom and Pop and Cardullo’s(back when Cardullo’s was good). British food, gourmet goodies… The shelves crammed with exotic items… Dang! They even stock Wine and Beer. And Ting! Hand on my heart they have Ting! So, West Concord Center has this gem, Nashoba Brook Bakery, Concord Teacakes, the West Concord 5&10, Walden Italian Kitchen, the Railroad Café… Wow. Not bad for a tiny town center.

The people in my office call the West Concord Supermarket ‘Stinky’s’, for some reason. The explanation i got was that it always smelled really powerfully like whatever they were cooking. Usually roast beef of some fantastic kind. Sure, it’s a supermarket and all, but we mainly go there looking for sandwiches. The deli counter in the back makes awesome sandwiches. Basically any of the delicious meats they have, including numerous standard options as well as the stuff they’re cooking fresh. No fancy breads or anything, but a good, soft sub roll, and really, it’s all about the meat. The only caveat is, you really don’t want to waste the time of the guy behind the deli counter. it’s not so much that he’s busy, it’s just that he apparently doesn’t have a lot of patience for indecision. i’ve never seen it too bad, but apparently he’s been pretty intimidating in the past. at any rate, it’s easy enough to avoid, and adds to the charm. and the sandwiches are really awesome. apart from that, it’s a supermarket with some pretty unusual stuff. a good selection of british food, for instance, among other things. it’s a strange little place, but worth the trip.

The West Concord Supermarket is a third-generation business, which John Mandrioli Sr. started as a fruit stand at the corner of Main Street and Commonwealth Avenue in 1919 and moved to its present location in 1936. The supermarket is at the west concord train station.(Everything in west concord is at the train station) A real butcher. Lots of stuff in the smallest area. Some wine, some soap, some veggies, some magazines, some great pie fillings, lots of unusual spices. In fact lots of unusual stuff. Their specialty, they told me, is carrying stuff you can’t get anywhere else. Call first to see if they have what you want. If they don’t sometimes they try to get it.
