On the one hand, Payless is like the flea market of shoes. You walk in and there is next to no organization. Where some stores have nicely stacked and arranged product so you might have some chance of finding what you want, probably nearby other things you want, there is little chance of that here. Generally you get shoes organized by type(men’s, women’s, kid’s) and size. That is about it. Within those very rough groupings, there is anything and everything. You can find a pair of somewhat dressy shoes next to a pair of knock-off Crocs sitting next to some tennis shoes. Next to that may be more tennis shoes, another pair of heels or even some hiking boots. Repeat. If you have no problem with digging for your shoe treasure, you are not addicted to brand names and a less-than-completely-clean store does not bother you, then this is the stop for you. You could stop elsewhere for those Crocs, which even on sale could be $ 25. Or you could get the off-brand, which will probably do well enough, for $ 15. You just have to find them. And not catch anything in the process. Or put the $ 10 towards a tetanus shot.
