Lee’s Custom Tailoring

This cute little old man was a life saver. My hubby needed his suit tailored to fit him and he needed it the next day. The place looks old, nothing fancy but the couple that makes this place definitely knows what they’re doing. My husband isn’t a suit person so when we bought a suit we didn’t know anything about how it’s suppose to fit or even look. The man measured my husband from top to bottom in various areas and assured us he could get it done in time. The next day we came in and everything was perfect. We couldn’t have been happier. Love this place.

NEVER AGAIN!
I brought 3 pairs of pants to be hemmed. These were all unlined drawstring pants.
I was charged 45 dollars and had to

I was told to come back on Saturday (in 7 days)
I was there at 1 pm — my pants were not ready. Lee looked at my ticket which said the correct date for that Saturday. He showed me some kind of other form (which had not been given to me) and said that he had written the Saturday date on my ticket but had written a date for 2 days later on his form!!?
He asked me to come back before 2:30 so my husband and I did other errands and I came back at 2:36 -.And the pants were still not ready!
So I walked around and wasted my time and walked back in at 2:45-finally got them

Shopping Center Concord) — went out of business all of a sudden
Anyway I will never go back to Lee’s

This man saved the day!
My husband bought a suit at Macys Walnut Creek. We waited 9 days for them to hem the pants. When it was ready, the pants were too short. We had a wedding in Chicago and had to leave the next morning early. To top it off, the Macys alterations person was not working the next day. The store manager recommended Lee’s Custom Tailoring and promised to pay to have the pants re-​hemmed. (She said her husband has had Lee’s alter many of his clothes and she knew he does good work.) She also refunded the Macy’s alterations charge ($ 15).
When I walked into his shop, I told him I had a problem. I explained it and he had the pants ready for me in an hour and half! Great job too. And even less money than Macy’s charged! I think they are terrific!

I needed to get some pants hemed today and according to google, Lee’s was open until 6pm (on saturday). I arrived at 5pm and found out they actually close at 3pm on Saturdays, are closed Sundays, and are open until 6pm on weekdays. So for anyone that works regular business hours, the only time you can get your stuff done is between 10 and 3 on a Saturday. Kind of lame.

I bought a suit from the Macy’s at the Sunvalley Mall. I was referred to Lee’s Custom Tailoring by the salesman at Macy’s because he said they no longer employ a tailor in their store and haven’t for the past two years (a bit strange for such a huge retailer) but he gave us the business card and said this place was good.
I brought the suit to the shop on New Year’s Eve 2013, which was a Tuesday. The place is rather small and looks rather dated and a little shabby, and kind of smells, not in a bad way, just kind of an old, run-​down type of smell, but that’s rather typical of these types of establishments. The owners are both Chinese, husband and wife I believe. It was a bit hard for me to understand what the guy was saying, but I think he understood me better than I understood him. He was nice enough but kind of got a bit impatient when I had trouble deciding the length of the pants and whether or not I wanted a cuff, and said he didn’t want to do it over should I not be satisfied the first time. I told him I needed the suit for the following Monday, and he told me he could have it ready by Saturday.
When I came back on Saturday, they hadn’t even started working on it yet, almost like they had forgotten about it, and the guy had to take my measurements again (good thing I was wearing the shoes I would be wearing with the suit, which one needs to be sure to bring when they get a suit altered). They told me they could have it done while I waited, so I did. Fortunately it only took maybe 10 minutes at most. I would have given this place a much less favorable review if it weren’t for the fact that in the end I did get the suit back on the day they said it would be ready.
The suit fits perfectly and the quality of the work seems good enough, although the stitching seems a bit delicate and I’m trying to be as gentle as possible with it. Not sure if all custom tailor shops do the stitching this way or not. I do agree with Christopher S. that pre-​paying for a service that you need to check after it’s done is a bit odd, but fortunately I was satisfied (though it would have been nice if Macy’s simply could have done the tailoring themselves).

I took a ball dress in on a Saturday and needed it for the following Saturday. They had the dress hemmed (gown plus the liner), and straps shortened and I went in on Thursday just to make sure all was on track for a Saturday pick up and the dress was ready. Wonderful. A no frills shop, but they do good work. The guy did ask me to prepay. I had read once someone felt age or color of the customer had to do with the reason for prepayment. Well, I am a 55yr. old Caucasian woman, just in case someone was wondering. I imagine they ask everyone to prepay. Maybe they’ve been stiffed before.

I went in on a Friday with a dress I needed for a wedding on the following Saturday. I’m happy to have found them. He had the dress done by Thursday, it mustve been a hard job because it was a little pricey. Not as pricey as what the other alteration places were going to charge me, though. $ 20 – 40 cheaper to get the darn dress altered at Lee’s.
There were a couple of loose strings that I pulled out or trimmed down, just a few… Also, the place is very old fashioned. The fabric samples and styles look like they could’ve been there for decades (really!) and the cash register was one of the old ones with the handle! I thought it was kind of funny, but the dust and the old stuff was making my nose go crazy. I’m kind of sensitive to it, ya know?
GG’s review also made me giggle a bit, because what she says about the wife is totally true. Doesn’t look up or talk much. So I guess that even though i loved my dress after they were done with it, I’m still gonna have to go with 4 stars for… Just a little bit of a weird environment? Yeah, it kind of makes you feel a little out of place standing in there. Like you’re from the future and you’re in a foreign country. :)

First time I went to this place Lee gave me a great deal on getting some old pants and stuff stitched up. The second time I went back, he must have been hard off for money or something because the prices were quadrupled. I might try him again, but for now, I think the consistency is not that good. The work itself is good, but I don’t think they have an eye for detail because there are a ton of small fixes (small holes in the pockets) they could have done or mentioned to me before handing me back the 4 pairs of pants I had done.
Oh…and he always wants you to pre-pay…kind of odd paying in advance for a service that you need to check after it is done.

7÷7÷2008 — Lee or Mr. Lee owns this establishment with his wife. You won’t get a peep out of her. She barely makes eye contact. I don’t think she speaks a lot of English so we’ve never talked. Maybe that’s a ruse because she recently got a slammin’ haircut and when I complimented her, she blushed in acknowledgement.
I am blessed with a long legs on my short frame, but I still have to get my bottoms altered. He runs about $ 10 for a hem. The items are ready within a week. I have been going to them for almost 7 years now and we’re finally getting friendly. Seven long years till small talk. Ah well — at least none of my hems or repairs have ever unraveled. I gotta say — ask on the prices before you get fitted because a couple weeks ago he charged me $ 10 to hem some dress straps when I felt should have been like $ 5 or $ 8 or something. (shrugs)
Starbucks is just down the way and so is Office Depot or Office Max. So you can hit a couple places at once. Park Place Cleaners, a few doors down is also really cool & consistent w/​their service at a bargain price.
3÷23÷2008 — Had to come back to update my review. I also upgraded this place from 4 to 5 stars. I had a dress that I wanted converted into a shirt and it was done great. It was pretty much a simple hem, but they created the tapered shirttail hem. I love it. I have never, EVER been asked to pre-​pay. And I’m black. Mr. & Mrs. Lee take cash or credit cards. No checks.
