Went to a Mark Twain reading last night — so good. It was ‘Extracts from Adam’s Diary and from Eve’s Diary’. There were twenty readers 10 women and 10 men — and it was magnificent! The story was hilarious and having different voices read Eve and Adam was brilliant.

We saw the opening night of Butterfield 8’s production of Salome. The acting, dance-like movements of the chorus, the use of beautiful leather half masks to represent the different religious sects, and the use of projections to enhance Salome’s «dance of the seven veils», added up to a wonderful night of theatre. Seeing Salome as a petulant adolescent princess, made complete sense to the story. We have enjoyed many of Butterfield 8’s other shows as well, they do a great job with Shakespeare and specialize in classics. The Cue theatre where they perform is very small and intimate. A black box theatre, with simple chairs rather than cushy theatre seats, where the plays are often performed all around you. There is a nice bar area, for before the show and at intermission where you can get coffee and soda or beer and wine. There are often cheese & cracker snacks, along with the usual cookies and candy bars for sale. The Cue is really conveniently located near Todos Santos Plaza, and just a few blocks from BART, with some nice restaurants nearby(Luna’s, Ravioli, Piñata, to name a few) to make for a fun night out.
