Loved the relaxed atmosphere. Food was good, even though she messed my order up. Crazy expensive. Cappuccino was excellent. I would recommend this place for its café only. Not the food bc of the price

The café is nice enough, but I wouldn’t consider it a destination. For myself, that is. It might serve others’ needs better. The interior is comfortable but feels like it was decorated by a school cafeteria designer. Row of plain tables, not much originality. There’s a lot of potential there that isn’t being realized. I’d love to comment on the menu, but there wasn’t a lot I could have eaten. When I asked if there was anything suitable for vegans(I’m not one, but I tend to shorthand when there’s no real point in explaining my whole diet), I got perplexed reactions. I’m used to folks not being familiar with veganism, specifically how it differs from vegetarianism. I can almost understand it being confused with a gluten-free diet. But being offered turkey was a new one. The lady at the next table seemed to really like her quiche. And the woman on the other side said she enjoyed her smoothie. I enjoyed my tea, though Lipton black seemed the only option. I was given no choices when I asked for a cup. It could be a place to sit and work for a while. There is free wifi — ask the staff for the password — but I felt bad not ordering food. It feels like the kind of place where you should. Not a bad place, but with so many other options around, I personally don’t expect to be drawn back.

This is a wonderful little place! A treasure! Food is delicious and so well presented! Pies, soups… Incredible! The owner is present and very warm! Prices are reasonable! I love to go for lunch even when I am alone. I like to sit at the bar or at a table. Kathleen is talking to people and she is very charming. My boyfriend likes it too! I highly recommend this little café!

The food was good, if not great. I had the breakfast sandwich and my girlfriend had the quiche. The quiche was very good, a really great crust, it was just overpriced at $ 8 or $ 9. Try $ 5-$ 6. The breakfast sandwich was very good and I would say roughly in line with what I would pay other places. The way she did the eggs for the sandwich was kind of amazing, onion and stuff swirling in it almost like she put a small omelette on my croissant. The coffee was Crimson Cup so of course it was good. The problem, and the reason for the 2 stars, was the service. We arrived at 8 am or so, well after the posted opening time of 7 am(sorry Rose, that stinks for you). They were open, sort of. I actually couldn’t tell until I was all the way up to the door. So we go in, all of the patio furniture is piled up around the door and the owner still has a coat on. We order, she is very kind and helpful, and then we sit. We have to wait for coffee because none is brewed yet(remember that it is an hour after opening?) but even worse then that, we have to wait for her to prepare our food so that she can roll the patio furniture outside and put out some stupid ad flags. Shouldn’t all of this been done BEFORE you opened at 7 am? So how is it that you feel the need to do it NOW, at 8:15 while your customers are waiting on you? It wasn’t like we had all day… Needless to say, the food at Kathleen’s is good. But while you are their you get the impression that some rich guy wanted to get his wife out of the house and so he gave her $ 10K to open a little café. Since they, and especially she, are not dependent on the income to survive they skimp on all of the little things that make an experience memorable. I feel that if they took a little time to show up and be prepared, maybe try out a little professionalism, they could be a really good café, and have a nice following. But they won’t, and they won’t go out of business either because the rich guy really wants her out of the house.

Tried to stop on my way to work one morning. Their hours say they open at 7am on the door. Waited until around 7.15 before giving up and leaving because no one ever showed up. This made my day pretty crappy because I was out my morning coffee and didn’t have time to stop somewhere else.

This is a neighborhood gem. If you like quiche or fruit pies this is the best in town. This is a small, very clean, comfortable space. Kathleen and her staff are warm and welcoming. The pastries look sinful, and take considerable will power to pass up. The sandwiches are home made, and all of the ingredients are fresh. Soups are also excellent. John Christianson has given this restaurant rave reviews for the pies. Everything is made on site. My favorite quiche is the pizza with spicy Italian sausage, but more traditional ones are always available. As long as I am in the neighborhood, I will never darken the doors of Bob Evans(nearby) again for breakfast or lunch. Kathleen’s is now closed on Sunday.
