Negative: The Financial aid department will screw you over faster than you can register. The«Help desk» is not very helpful. It took me a full semester to work with them to get my financial aid going. The staff is just angry and doesn’t want to help you. After calling them on the phone for questions, I could hear the staff member on the phone sighing after my questions. On one phone called the staff member admitted«I’m not trained in this and don’t have that knowledge». The Records department is even worse… the front desk lady is always angry at you for whatever reason. But the others in back are a refreshment and will help you with whatever you need. Don’t get me started on the bookstore: Students get your books elsewhere! These over priced books are only the tip of the iceberg. 50% of the time(as an Art student) the bookstore didn’t have the books or supplies I needed. Beware the cranky Bull-Lady that patrols the front door making sure you don’t steal all their precious crap. Positives: The Departments can be a breath of fresh air depending on the program you’re in. The Visual Communications department is highly accredited and helped me with my networking during and after my degree. The staff there really bond with their students and want to help you. The scheduling online is easy and quick, and the class are usually pretty decent. Getting through Ivy Tech can be easy and enjoyable but the front offices, adjunct teachers, and crazy bookstore people can make it unbearable.
