I live in Cleveland but when I need a haircut, I’d drive to Columbus to get it at City Cut. Both times I got my haircut from John. He is very skillful and understands hair very well. he not only gives professional haircut but analyzes your hair and gives you suggestions(style, length, hair quality… etc). Patient and a good listener. The people who work there are friendly and welcoming. During my recent visit I had my hair wash from a lady(I think she is new). She gave me a pretty lazy hair wash, the total amount of time she spent washing my hair was less than 15 seconds. When she was done washing my hair, she didn’t clip the towel right around my head, so my wet hair just lay straight down on my back and dripped water all over the floor… errr. I ended up using my own hair clip to keep the towel wrapped around my hair. After that I thought I was going to have a bad experience at City Cut, but John noticed my hair was not washed thoroughly so he apologized and gave me a hair wash himself. The other worker who did my treatment was careful about his work. I think they just need to spend a little time making sure all the workers are trained well to do their job. Reason for the 4 star is that they have a pretty bad scheduling system. Both times I went I made appointment ahead of time but my average wait was 40 minutes. They called someone on the waiting area thinking that was me, then apologized later after noticing that wasn’t the right customer after they have already performed service. When it was finally my turn they didn’t seem to know what service I made reservation for. Hope they can do a better job taking reservations because I think this place deserves a 5 star!

Usually my go-to Asian hair salon is New Wave, but my brother was getting his hair cut here the same day, and I didn’t feel like making two trips to different salons. City Cut wasn’t busy on a Thursday afternoon, so we both just walked in and were immediately attended to. I definitely wasn’t disappointed by City Cut! I’m usually not very good at describing what I want besides that I just want my hair trimmed a little bit. The woman who worked with my hair(unfortunately I didn’t catch her name), also suggested a bit of layers to add an illusion of volume when I mentioned that my hair always looked flat. Like I said, I am very satisfied with the outcome and the layers frame my face nicely! For my long hair, the total came out to $ 40 with tip, which is a tad expensive for me, especially since I didn’t even get my hair washed, but other than that, I have no complaints!

I go to City Cut Salon in Kenny Centre Mall to get my men’s haircut. As reviewer Dennis L. mentioned, «$ 18 plus tip gets me a haircut, shampoo, rinse and style». However, starting in 2014 there is a $ 3 price hike so makes that $ 21 plus tip. Being a guy, I consider myself low maintenance. The main reason I go to City Cut Salon is because I like my hairstylist. She knows Asian hair, meticulous, and doesn’t rush(mostly true unless you come during the weekend). I have no use for their other amenities. If my hairstylist works at another salon, I will get a haircut at her new place. The price hike seems insignificant but if you got to cut every other week, it does put a dent in your wallet. As a starting out young professional, the pressure to look good must be continually weighed against economics and whether I have enough cash flow to pay the bills. I think a 16.67% price hike is a bit too sudden in this economic environment where many are struggling to get by.

When the new location open I jumped for it! My parents would drive us from Dayton to Columbus just for this hair cut. It’s so hard to find someone that can cut my hair because most people don’t cut according to facial structure. They go with whatever’s in trend but not Alan. He does a phenomenal job! I always can trust that if I’m going short haired it will not be messed up and I won’t have to get it redone. This past time was the first time I got highlights and I almost got blond ones but Alan knew what would look best and so the light brown highlights were fantastic!

I did couple of perms and a few hair cuts there. Have to admit that the hair work was well done. However, it looks that they have a problem keeping the appointment on schedule. It was never on time, my personal experience, 2 times it was more than 1hour late. My others fell into 40 minutes plus range.

Not pleased with the service and haircut I received here. I walked in on a weekend when there was only one other customer and asked for a haircut with Allen since he’s supposed to be «the best» for Asian haircuts. Not only did I not get the haircut I asked for, my bangs looked flat when they should have been layered and tapering. In addition he had an assistant flat iron the crap out of my hair before he even cut it. He then charged me over $ 50 for the haircut and tells me I got charged $ 10 more than normal because I didn’t shampoo and flat iron my hair first at home. Seriously? What salon requires that? And the kicker is that my friend told me she got her haircut there with him for only $ 20, and she’s not even a frequent customer, she only goes there once every few years. Wonderful. Guess the price on your haircut changes at the owner’s discretion. I won’t be back.

I’ve been going to City Cut for a couple years now. City Cuts is your standard hair/nail salon. The one major draw is that they focus on Asian hair and styles. They have staff who speak Chinese as well. Within the last year I am lucky enough to have found 2 stylist that I like. That’s always been a struggle because either the stylist doesn’t do a good job or they leave never to be seen again. That’s the good. The bad is something that I have frequently experienced at City Cuts. They seem to have a problem maintaining appointments and/or follow a schedule. My most recent experience is why I decided to write this review. I called on a Friday to make a 2pm appointment for the following Saturday. I show up 10 minutes early to a packed waiting area, and when 2 pm rolled around, my stylist took another patron. I let her know that I had a 2 pm appointment, and she looked surprised. She checks the appointment book and sure enough my appointment wasn’t listed. The person who took my appointment placed it in some other day. So she was very sorry and said I could wait. I saw my other stylist there and asked if she could do my hair. She checked and the other stylist was doing someone’s hair that would take much of her time. Another FAIL.(This is no one’s fault, it just didn’t help my mood). So I desperately needed a cut as my hair was growing wild. I had to run some other errands and so made a second appointment for 4 pm that same day. Luckily they kept this and showed that they were eager to amend the situation. The lesson to learn, make whoever takes the appointment to repeat it. This wasn’t the only instance where they either forgot or postponed my appointment. 5 stars for the stylists and haircut, –2 stars for frequently messing up my appointment.

I go here to get my gelish nails and Joyce does a great job, i am very picky about my nails and i am always satisfied when i go here. Pedicures are a little on the pricey side but i have noticed they are everywhere in columbus.

At last I’ve found my asian hair destination! I’ve been getting my hair cut all over columbus for years and have never been let down by City Cut. They understand asian hair better than anyone. When I want my hair cut, it’s usually on a whim and I feel the need to do it immediately. I’ve walked into this place on multiple occasions without an appointment and was able to get my hair cut and colored. Kathy and Alan are both good choices for hair cutting and coloring. City Cut is not just for asian clientele. There are probably an equal amount of other ethnicities that only trust their hair to City Cut too. They also have a nail salon inside.

I brought my Korean fiancé here because he’s got this curly course hair that is quite rare to encounter in our Asian culture. His last good haircut was from a Vietnamese guy in Minneapolis, and he’s been unfortunate ever since. Aveda couldn’t even get it right. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure hairstylist know ‘how’ to work/cut his hair, but they haven’t yet matched his haircut with his facial features – and he doesn’t even know either! So rather than wait for him to come home and surprise me, I brought him to this place. We walked in and they gladly seated him. I waited for him to call me over to give the stylist instructions, but she(stylist) just began cutting. She was so meticulous. First, she did a [correct] dry hair cut to see how his crazy hair would fall when dry. Second. she thinly razored his hair, washed it, and cleaned up the frizzy sides. Though she barely spoke English, she knew exactly what would look good on him. I plan to get my hair cut here next time. We get in the car and he says«this was the best cut I’ve ever had.»

I’ve been getting my crazy frizzy curly hair straightened at City Cut since 2004. The first time I went, I drove in from Wisconsin because they had a lot of good reviews online and the price was reasonable. My hair looked incredible– straight, silky, and smooth even in serious humidity. I didn’t even need to blow it dry unless I wanted to. I’ve continued to see Alan and Emily ever since, driving from all over the Midwest as I’ve moved around. The price is reasonable– they charge $ 80 an hour for thermal reconditioning, and it usually takes anywhere from $ 350 to $ 500, plus tip, depending on how long my(incredibly thick) hair is. When I consider all the time and money I save by not needing to get my hair blown out, and the fact that I only need to return every 9 months or so, it’s worth it.

The best place for Japaneese Thermal Straightening! I have been coming here and to their High Street location for over 5 years! Even after moving to CA, they are worth the plane ticket! Alan Chan is the best:)

I would bet I’m one of the few males who gets his hair cut at this place. It all started when I first moved to Columbus, living on the OSU campus, looking for somewhere to get my hair cut. My roommate told me about a place called City Cut, a block away and staffed by «hot Chinese girls,» so obviously, that’s where I went. Eventually I got to know the stylist named Emily, and started requesting her every time I went there. Now, 14 years later, Emily still cuts my hair, sometimes at the campus location, and sometimes here at this new location on Kenny Road. I prefer the new one because a) parking is easy; b) it’s closer to my house; and c) it’s in the same shopping center as several other Asian businesses I like to visit before/after my haircut. Admittedly, this location is a bit girly, with the manicure stations and such, but I don’t care. Emily’s always done a good job for me, and $ 18 plus tip gets me a haircut, shampoo, rinse and style, usually pretty quickly, too.
