Terrible service. After being seated by a teenager with attitude we waited 30 min and still no waiter. I finally got up and asked what looked like a manager for service. The waiter was not personable. He did not offer an apology. He did take our order right away. The food came, it was ok. I have had better. Waited another 20 min after finishing for the check. Was charged full price after knowing they had forgot to wait on us.(our table was up front near the hostess stand) we did get an underrated apology but to little to late. I won’t be back. Suggest you all skip this one folks.

The food here was so delicious and very authentic! It was served fast and there was plenty. Upon arrival, you get hot tortilla chips and three different dips. I ordered the Jalisto Fajitas(I hope I spelled that right). They are served sizzling hot and consist of chicken, steak, and shrimp, peppers, onions and tomatoes. I have never had it with tomatoes, but I now like it with tomatoes. It was seasoned so well and bursting with flavor. I request corn tortillas instead of the flour tortillas that it comes with and they allowed the substitution with now problem. I also had the peach margarita because another reviewer recommended it and it was just as delicious as she described. But, I can tell that any flavor would be amazing. I had all of this for $ 20!

I eat at this restaurant all the time with my family. The food is good and consistent. The service is usually amazing. Today I went in and got $ 50 dollars of takeout. As I was checking my bag I realized I had only received 1 small bag of chips and 3 small containers of salsa. When I went back in to get extra chips and salsa the owner of the restaurant was slightly rude and acted like he was doing me some huge favor by giving me one little bag of chips and one more salsa and not charging me 2.99. Not to mention we had ordered a queso and chips so we should have hsd more chips to go with the app. If my family and I had ate in the restaurant we would have definitely needed more chips than originally given. If we had ate in the restaurant they would be constantly asking if we wanted refills. So my question is why alienate your customers over something so small? Especially since there are other Mexican restaurants in Columbia to choose from. Like I said still good food and usually good service. This experience just left a bad taste in my mouth.

We live locally and this is our favorite place to go out to dinner. Convenient location right off of Hwy 63. Large seating area, so even when they are busy there is no wait. Great for large parties. We have been many times and have always had excellent service. The owner/manager makes rounds frequently to make sure you are satisfied. I’m a picky eater and I always have special order instructions– they get it right every time! The food arrives quickly and is always delicious. Favorites– Don Jose’s or Burritos Carnitas.

Apparently, good customer service isn’t important here. After waiting more than 15 min to get my credit card back(and having asked the waitresses twice), the manager(I use this term very loosely in this instance) approached me and told me I had to wait. Rather than apologizing for the wait, he somehow turned it around and blamed me! I asked him if it’s reasonable to have a customer wait that long to get my card back. He basically told me to F off. Now I need to keep checking my checking account to make sure they didn’t do something with my card…

Consistently authentic and delicious. Always a clean restaurant. Interesting location, but it’s totally worth it. There’s a reason I’m a semi-regular here. The food is always great. If it’s Mexican in Columbia, I always choose Jose’s. These guys deserve you as their next customer.

Great place! This was our first time here and we couldn’t have had a better time. After a very disappointing experience at Las Margaritas, we came here at the suggestion of a friend. Kudos to him for the nod because the food, staff and atmosphere were awesome!

So, I’m a Mexican-American from Texas and I go to this place to try Missouri’s version of Mexican food. Bottom line, not too bad. The beans and rice are really good. My wife had chicken and it was very good. My only negative is the taco meat. To me, it was more like a mince meat and not tasty, juicy and it lacked the ground meat texture we all love. I will go back and try other dishes, just nothing with taco meat. The atmosphere and furnishings were very nicely done and the wait staff was good.

Stopped here on our way home from a wedding in Jeff city… Great food! Delicious salsa and nicer inside that what we expected. 3 stars because our waiter literally walked up to our table and without any expression asked«what do you want to drink»… No welcome or how are you doing or a hello for that matter… the rest of our meal was great, but I had to bug the waiter for check and our bill was 28 $ something, I gave him two twenties and he asked me if I needed change, absolutely! I got back 2 ones and a ten dollar bill. I hate to leave a bad tip but I was in a hurry to get home and wasn’t about to wait for change for my ten dollar bill as I didn’t have any more change. Every waiter should know better than to not break the bills you are given to make change!

For the price, you can do much better in Columbia. I’m telling you this for a couple reasons. 1) The atmosphere is average and the service has been slightly below average the few times I have visited. The last time I went, the waiter was new, and the poor guy got every single order wrong at our table. He was a nervous high school aged kid and I felt bad for him. It seemed like he simply just wasn’t prepared well enough or shouldn’t have been out there. 2) The food is also very average. I eat mexican 24⁄7. I honestly don’t eat anything but mexican every single day. 24÷7÷365. The food was good, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. There wasn’t that kick of mexican flavor that I like to see. They seem to play it safe. And if you ask me to note a memorable dish, I couldn’t name one. That’s a problem.

Would be give star for service and food but … Employees children ran rampart during the time I was there. Don’t enjoy unsupervised children much. I am sure there are plenty of other places to eat work a quite atmosphere.

I’m so upset that I didn’t discover this gem until my second semester senior year at Mizzou. DONOT be discouraged by the location – yeah, it’s next to a bowling alley. So what? It’s fantastic. JJ’s has the BEST peach margarita I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting, and their queso is out of this world. I had the quesadilla loca with chicken, and it was delicious. Others I’ve visited with have had different dishes and their responses were the same – amazing. This is a great place for Mexican food(coming from someone with family in the Southwest who’s visited Mexico quite a bit) at a decent price in a colorful, welcoming environment. Can’t beat it. Hope this place is around for a while, because I’ll definitely be visiting once Homecoming rolls around.

I really want to like this place. The prices are decent, it’s close to home, the service is very friendly and the chips & salsa are good. But then the tamales came out covered in this greasy hamburger meat concoction. Granted, other Mexican restaurants, such as El Maguey, also do this to tamales… somebody must like it but I’m not a big fan. Next time I’ll order them sans the sauce or just order some fajitas.

My first reaction was that the serving size was on the small side, but then I started eating and discovered the food to be very favorable. Granted, a limited sampling size, but very good offering– check it out even if they are next to a bowling alley!

I have high standards when it comes to Mexican food since I grew up in California. The atmosphere was nice. I went for lunch and the cost was great and very affordable. I got the steak fajita quesadilla and it was good. I just thought it was weird they gave us ranch dip and salsa with our chips.

I have tried 4 Mexican restaurants in Columbia and this is the second best so far. Rio grande and el rodeo don’t match. Las margaritas is in a league of its own. But when comparing the quality of food to the price this place is the one. Service is good and fast. The inside of the restaurant is huge and the tables and chair are colorful but the interiors are nothing fancy. Jose Cuervo margarita don’t match to the price or quality of champs the restaurant and sport bar. The free salsa and chips are decent. I tried the mushroom chicken with cream sauce which was good especially when sprinkled with a generous dose of jalapeños, which was cooked and specially requested. Definitely would go back but not the next time but may be after trying other Mexican restaurants in the area.

This place is great! I went there just wanting to get some lunch and was surprised that I got so much food for less than $ 10. Don’t let the price fool you, this place has excellent tasting Mexican food! I’m a fan!

Bad from start to finish. We came in with a large group and we had to sit in a separate booth without our group. Then, we never got menu’s until this busser came around and gave us ONE. We then had to ask if she could wipe down our table as it had not been cleaned. She mentioned she was not a waitress, brought us a couple more menus and took our order. We were fine with all of this but then we waited, and waited, and waited until we grabbed a legitimate waiter and asked if he could check on our order since we had ordered 1 hr prior. In that hour, we were not visited again by a waiter or the busser/waitress to refill our drinks. FINALLY our food came out and it was cold. Some of the orders came with tortillas which we had to ask for once we realized they weren’t bringing them. We got out of there fast and asked for a discount since we had awful service, they gave us 50% off(or so we thought). Its impossible to tell since their receipts are just numbers. I wouldn’t go there again.

This place must be really new, since it wasnt here this past winter when we came bowling and drinking. Anyways, it’s decorated nice, people are friendly, and prices are cheap. Food was great, hot and fresh. Obviously it wasn’t «real authentic» at least mine wasn’t. Only place I ever had real authentic was in Mexico City. However, the food here was good, one of the best I’ve had. I really liked the salsa, different than usual, and my chimichanga had a great flavor. Will be back soon. Really hope this place helps lazer lanes strike up more business so they can continue to fix that dump up

I heard a co-worker rave about this new Mexican restaurant in town, so my husband & I decided to go last night. It was amazing! First, along with the usual chips & salsa, they brought out a couple of additional dips. One was white, but not cheese. I think it was maybe a ranch & sour cream combo maybe? The other was a green dip but it wasn’t spicy, more like the verde sauce I get at Taco Bell. For the entrée, we ordered the Jose Jalapeño fajitas for two and the cost was about $ 22 for the dish. It was a huge serving and very delicious. This dish included several different kinds of meat, steak, chicken, shrimp and carnitas. We only ate about 1⁄3 of the meat so plenty of food for take home. The staff was friendly, we only wanted water to drink as it was too late for soda and just wasn’t really in the mood for alcohol. Our water glass was never empty as they kept the refills flowing. They have good drink specials nearly nearly every day of the week. The bar was a little loud, but that always just tells me everyone is having a good time :). The décor was authentic Mexican and very colorful. We enjoyed this visit and will eat there again soon.

Best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in Columbia. Didn’t even have to ask for a second helping of chips and salsa. The $ 13 Dinner Fajitas is piled high and well worth the cost. They are off to a good start, but hopefully they don’t change over time.

Second time here. Fantastic service both times and the first time I was here they messed up my order and fixed it without me ever knowing it was messed up. They brought me the corrected entrée and pointed out their mistake when I hadn’t even known there was an error.
