JJ’s Cafe

This is my mother-in-law’s favorite. We finally tried it and totally see why. The service was amazing and our water and coffee were never close to empty. The food was delicious and plenty of it. I already know this gonna be a regular place for us. We will be back.

Typical diner menu. All of it good and well priced. More than enough coffee refills to get you going! Staff is friendly and always busy yet never forget ya! I like the gravy they serve. Always fresh and tasty.

I really love this place. My husband and I drop by for breakfast often. They make exceptions to their menu if I am not in the mood for hash browns (or whatever) and the food is quick and delicious. Nice diner feel, always open in the mornings, and rarely as insanely busy as other breakfast places in Columbia.

The monster omelet is pretty good. Not fluffy but not greasy (which is a huge plus for me). It’s a perfect size portion for 1 — 2 servings as the plate is filled with hashbrowns, 2 toast and the signature omelet stuffed with sausages, bacon, ham, mushrooms and onions. The omelet was garnished with tomatoes, mushroom and green peppers. I’ve should of kept my mouth shut and not have ordered the chili as it tasted like it came from a can (which knocked 1 to 2 stars off). It’s a busy breakfast place in Columbia, wonder what it’s like when it’s packed with MU students.
The service was great as my cup of coffee never went empty. The ladies were friendly and gave us a to go coffee.

I love this place! The breakfasts are great. My eggs are always cooked to perfection. The coffee is delicious and they use real half & half and not some artificial junk for creamer. The dinners are like home cooking. I’ve never had liver and onions cooked any better. Their sandwiches are good too. The waitresses are friendly and will go out of their way to please you. The service is fast. This is my kind of place!

Oh man, this place was delicious. I’m obsessed with their biscuits and apple butter spread! To die for!

Really great diner feel! We came here on a Sunday morning. The staff was bustling around with a positive attitude and the customer flow was steady! The menu offers basic diner breakfast options and begins offering lunch at 10:30.
I ordered a supreme skillet that came with a delicious grilled biscuit and «grandma’s homemade apple butter” — yum! My skillet was okay– nothing special. The portion was quite small for the &8.99 price tag. It had plenty of ingredients except the staple hash browns. I could barely find those. My partner had a waffle with extra crispy bacon, which they deep fried. His meal was $ 7.99 and thy charged an extra $ 0.99 for a fruit mix in. A bit steep, in my opinion, considering we just bought one waffle for the cost of feeding an entire family waffles.
When our food arrived, we requested silverware and condiments that never arrived. Our server immediately occupied himself with a nearby table and, after waiting as our food got cold, we got up and got silverware… Then, when he still failed to get condiments, I had to get up and ask for them from an unapologetic and quite curt server at the counter. Watching me do this, our server stopped by the table a couple minutes later to ask if we needed anything as though we had never asked.
Overall, I was unimpressed by the service and cost. The food rates about average as well, though the atmosphere is nice. I don’t think I’ll be rushing back to JJ’s any time soon, however.

Was there during lunch time and there seemed to be a shortage of staff — busy and only 2 staff on floor. This caused poorer service than expected. Took 20 minutes to get a refill on my coffee, another 20 minutes to get some Splenda brought to me.
I thought the food was average with smaller portions. The restaurant itself was very clean. If the service had been better I would give 4 stars.

Pancakes were very dense, brick-​like and unappetizing. the place could have used a little extra cleaning as well. Staff was friendly and the rest of the breakfast was OK but with so many other (better) options in town I’m not sure I will ever come back

Great breakfast. Very accommodating for making changes or personal preferences.
Nice clean place owned and operated by nice clean people. Can’t wait to go back.

Not impressed. Sunday morning breakfast, it was busy and i’ll give them that, but 45min later our breakfast food finally came out… But it was wrong. We were charged for extra items in a skillet which we didn’t order. Both of our egg styles were wrong. When they took the plates back for correction, none of the other items on the plate were freshened up, they didn’t even stick it in a microwave! So my plate came out cold (except the eggs) the server was nice, but couldn’t handle the number of tables she had. Maybe next time will be better?

Wonderful breakfast and super waitress! Will definitely visit again.

Good breakfast, biscuits and gravy are to DIE for! The four star rating is for service, but they get the job done.
