I Have eaten Here many times and found it to be good but quite average for a Chinese food place in the area. Then I noticed that they have a list of «authentic» dishes, it was very very good. I look forward to sampling more of that menu, it is outstanding.

Service and food was slow, they seemed really understaffed for a Saturday night. Food was better than average Chinese takeout that you find here in Memphis. If you want better than mass produced takeout then this is the place for you

The décor is beautiful. The service was great. We ordered the hot pot & some sushi. The sushi was ok. The rice used on the sushi tasted a bit different than most places I’ve been. The hot pot was delicious. We got the split bowl with beef & shrimp. Both my husband & I preferred the spicy broth. It came with a big basket of tofu, fish balls & mixed veggies. There was easily enough for 3 – 4 people. My only complaint was that we didnt get any dipping sauces with our hot pot. Apparently you have to ask for them.

Mulan has always been a favorite takeout of ours over the years, however the last few months there have been a number of changes that are disappointing. The quality of the cooking has declined, the ingredients listed on entrée’s are not what the prepare. Orders are incomplete.

Great food, this is what I’m looking for Chinese food when in Memphis area. Piano playing on Saturday night were triple plus for me.

A neighborhood favorite with consistently good dishes and service. They offer delivery, are timely and the food is hot. The vegetables are crisp and the flavor memorable.

Tonight we had delivered 6 different sushi rolls. The delivery was very fast and all the roll tasted great. The food cost was a little more than other sushi in the area but we enjoyed not having to «go out». I recommend this place. A+

Shrimp rolls are great. Sushi is average. Everything else is very bland! Way over priced for what you get.

Ordered delivery and have always had a great experience… Fast easy friendly. Our delivery today was late and I called. I was told the manager was out and spoke to Chris. He said they were«busy» and my order was waiting to be delivered… 50 minutes after ordering and they would get to it. Then hung up. I called back again– nicely– and asked Chris politely why he hung up on me … And he denied it and said he’d make it right. Click. Husband had to call back and confirm they were crediting our account, and he said they were just«too busy» and«blamed staff“for over promising. It’s now 8;45 and super disappointing.

We have become regulars at Mulan. We typically always order the same dishes: the mixed veggies, the chicken hot pot and the crispy tofu. All very good. The service is good and 80% of the times we’ve been there, there has been an older lady playing the piano. She’s really good too. :) Can’t attest as the authenticity of the dishes but they seem pretty authentic to me and there are always Chinese people dinning there, which I always take as a good sign.

OK food and pricey as usual. Happy Family had a nice selection of shrimp, beef, and chicken. The american version of Mapo tofu was quite tasty(the szechuan version is too oily for my taste). And the Seafood tofu soup was quite good… piping hot and loaded with tender seafood. The seafood combination in a hot wok was a waste of time, however… two shrimp, a few bay scallops, and loads of imitation crab with lots of veggies… certainly not worth the premium price. Service was quite good as usual. Overall, OK.

BESTCRABWONTONSEVER! I’ve only been here once and the food was ok. I loved the atmosphere and the décor. Ok, I LOVED the décor. It was so intricate. It gave the feel of a a really fancy authentic place(I’m not a valid source for what’s authentic though). I thought it was neat– but a little odd– that they had a lady playing songs on the piano all throughout the night. I recognized a good number of them even if I couldn’t remember their names. I tried their mixed vegetable soup. It was ok but I’ll be getting eggdrop soup next time for sure. I wasn’t all that impressed with the sushi which is why the rating is 3. It may be what I chose, but it was just ok. I got spicy shrimp and the Collierville roll and wasn’t really struck by either one. I will say this: They have the BEST crab wontons I have ever had. First, they’re made flat, which is unlike anywhere else I’ve ever been. This means the filling is spread all throughout the wonton and you don’t get that nasty crunchy part at the top which always ends up being like half of the wonton. Also, their wonton filling is amazing. It’s not overly sweet like I’ve had at other places– I actually could taste the crab. The sauce that comes with it complements it perfectly, but if you don’t agree, they’re also great just by themselves. I would love to go here again and give a review of their food(and snag some more wontons!), but I think I may go elsewhere for sushi. Summary: Buy the wontons. DOIT. Want to try: Chicken Tofu in Hot Pot or Bamboo Shoots in Hot Pot Loved: — Crab Meat Wontons Ok: — Spicy Shrimp Nah: — Collierville

I’ve been told that I need to write a more detailed review of this place since this is my most frequently visited Chinese restaurant. Mulan has a good mix of authentic Chinese and American Chinese. If not for Mulan, many of the previously exclusively American Chinese(Royal Panda, Wangs, etc) places here wouldn’t have started making authentic dishes for foodies or folks like me who like authentic Asian foods. The service here is excellent. The folks here are really friendly. I’ve always had a good experience. The décor here is modern Asian I suppose with a piano in the room. There are fake plants, however. A «new» thing for you foodies to try: REALHOTPOT!!! The hot pot is $ 40, and you get a selection of 2 meats and 3 vegetables out of a huge list of ingredients. The hot pot arrive on the table, with your choice of just broth, mala(spicy) broth, or both with a split in the middle of the pot. I prefer the spicy. Unfortunately I can’t eat this by myself or with just one other; it’s a meal for a party of 3 or 4. In my previous review I mentioned my usual dishes. Yup, those are still my «goto» dishes, and I should probably add the Mao’s Braised Pork and Beef Flank with Tofu to the list. That said, the authentic dishes here tend to be on the oily side. I’ve tried sushi here once; I would say it’s definitely presentable and passible for the Memphis average. There is no good«REAL» sushi place in Memphis, with the most passable ones being Edo and sometimes Sekisui(not consistent). Sushi isn’t supposed to be bulky, and we’re supposed to taste the ingredients, not have it covered up with sauce. Better than nothing I suppose!

Eggplant with garlic $ 8 is worth the trip alone. Sweet with a kick of Szechuan peppercorns yum yum. My toddler loves the house fried rice and egg foo young hubby likes the«happy family» and hot n sour soup. Note we’ve had different versions of «mapo tofu» here some is American style which is much milder and less chili oil than the Chinese menu version. Dishes are pricey but if you are dining in the service is great and the live pianist on the weekends is terrific. She plays standards with ease and takes requests. She’s very very good. They have sushi here and offer takeout and delivery as well. We’ve been coming since before the baby. This restaurant was our first meal out with a newborn. She’s literally grown up here haha.

This place is one my favorite spots in Memphis! I’ve been coming here since 2006 and the food is consistently delicious. My favorite roll is their volcano roll(old style– they do it differently now days, and yes it’s as delicious as it is different) with a side of pink sauce! The pink sauce is also really tasty when mixed into your fried rice. Mmmmm The bomb roll is HUGE!

THEBEST Chinese in the Memphis Metro area. The fried tofu is a fave of mine. The sesame chicken is to die for. They even have a piano player on Sundays. The food is fresh and light, not overly salty or greasy and you get a lot of it. The soups are also fresh and really good. Love the shredded carrots in rice wine vinegar as a palate cleanser. Definitely a go to place. The little alcoves offer almost private seating.

First time at Mulan with some friends. They’ve been open for 8 yrs and had currently changed their menus with a variety of Sichuan dishes. Its really good and I believe they have stepped up a notch for Traditional Asian cuisine in Memphis. Prices are pretty decent and reasonable. There is also a live piano bar in the middle of the restaurant. Something different and romantic. After around 8−9pm the karaōke becomes lively with customers singing while eating. Even the staff joins in later on. Can’t wait to go back again!
