4 stars because it has one of the best margaritas in the area. The food is average Tex-Mex fare. Service is good. Very festive décor. It’s located in a cookie-cutter looking strip mall, so when you approach it you might think it would be pretty drab and plain. However, the interior is quite colorful and cozy.

Saw reviews, from out of town, it’s close, and a major disappointment. Ordered 3 chicken enchiladas with beans and rice. Quite possibly the worst I ever had. Food was mildly luke warm and there was no cheese on the enchiladas at all. I have had authentic Mexican before and realize that cheese and sour cream is not the norm, but if you are going to go that route; the flavor and food should match the authenticity. I’ve had microwave enchiladas that were better. Only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the service was fast and friendly. Sad though as I wish the food matched the service. Go somewhere else if you want good food.

We were about to give up on Mexican Food in Memphis after experiencing restaurants with lousy food and lousy service time and time again. Last night we tried La Perla Tapita! FINALLY real Mexican food with fabulous service! This is our new go to favorite Mexican restaurant.

The service and food seem to vary from visit to visit. I’ve been eating and having drinks here for the past 2 years. The food isn’t bad but good enough that I continue to eat here. I usually get the chicken, cheese and rice but occasionally will get a burrito. I’m no expert but the Mexican food is very Americanized. The beer serving are very large. The medium sized glass is about 24oz.

This place is a fairly typical experience with predictable décor, but is better than average strip center Mexican fare. The food is reasonably fresh and the chunky guacamole is a worthy purchase. Good quality ingredients and good prices for fajitas which are generously apportioned. The service is fast. Clean dining room and friendly staff. Worth a stop if you are local or in the area.

It’s a hit and miss typical Tex-Mex food. During the less busy times the service and food isn’t bad. During my last lunch experience I couldn’t finish my chicken taco carbon, way to salty and way over cooked. They tried to cover it with some sort of greasy cheese to help but it didn’t. The beans and rice not very good. Would somebody in Memphis please open a decent consistent Mexican restaurant

This place is the best Mexican restaurant in Memphis area … nce people, clean, and with authentic chips, salsa and tacos!!! With corn tortilla always the best option, the rise delicious … ask for tacos al carbon, on corn tortillas

This place is tiny, but the food is usually tasty and the prices are good. The servers are efficient and not *overly* friendly. Favorite dishes: chilaquiles, carne asada, special chimichangas, tacos(any)

We tried this place while looking for something new. At lunchtime on a Tuesday, it was packed, so we thought that would be a good sign. Unfortunately, not so much. The service was adequate. Our server never once smiled, but brought drinks and food fairly well. The interior is that shabby cliché Mexican thing, with bright tacky colors and garb everywhere. But the food was a major letdown. I ordered the carnitas, which were ok. They weren’t flavored very well, or shall I say, very much. Kind of bland. My husband has some burrito with six types of meat in it(steak, sausage, bacon, something else…). He thought it was good, but I thought it was loaded with cilantro. Like, offensively loaded! They had a bar, but we didn’t order anything. There are far better Mexican restaurants nearby, so we won’t be back.

This is one of our go to Mexican food restaurants — more because it is close than because it is great. We came around 7:30 on a Friday and waited 5 minutes for a table. Drinks and chips came fairly quickly, but we waited a bit to place our order. The salsa was not as good as I remembered and the chips are just OK. I loved the taco salad I got with no meat just grilled veggies and I ate more than I wanted. The spouse got a heaping bowl of chicken tortilla soup that he really liked and a tossed salad that was more onions than anything. Pretty quick really, but we expect that at a Mexican food restaurant

Our family eats here weekly and we love it. If you come during predictable busy times such as Friday night the service can be slow. Plan accordingly and you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Pretty good. The staff is nice and the food was ok. I think it’s hard to find good authentic Mexican food in the area but for Collierville it’s pretty good. My kids love the P5(just rice chicken and white cheese sauce) so this is pretty much the only Mexican restaurant we can take them to.

My friend and I come here weekly for the lunch specials. Prices are very reasonable. The salsa and guacamole are delicious and the chips are crispy and fresh. The atmosphere is charming and colorful. The servers are very attentive and friendly and the food comes out timely. The portions are generous. I love the chicken fajitas with the caramelized onions and green peppers.

We’ve been having issues with our go-to place, so we decided to branch out. La Perla Tapatia is located next to Bogie’s in Collierville. If you don’t know to look for it, you’ll miss the restaurant entirely. Salsa was tasty, chips were just OK. We ordered fajitas for two — they were somewhat bland, and there were tomatoes thrown in the pan along with the meat and usual veggies. Something about tomatoes fajita-style is just not appetizing. Service was so slow, and restaurant was not particularly crowded. Not good enough to return for us.

Coming from California I have high expectations for Mexican food. Unlike another place in Collierville they didn’t disappoint.

Tasteless food describes this place. When the chips come out barely warm and the salsa has no flavor you know you’re in trouble. Both of our entrees had no flavor and that includes the cheese dip. Over priced for Mexican too. Go elsewhere.

Mexican joint judging is so subjective. I mean, it really takes a bad place to be bad. La Perla is not bad! But it is not great either. It does have one great thing and that is the service. The staff is always friendly and engaging. The food is ok. I do like other Mexican Places more. My critical point is the food can be extremely greasy.(Yeah, I know that is kind of what you get with Mexican). I mean REALLY greasy. My bottom line: great service, ok food. I will and do go back. It will fill the spot when the need hits you.

I went here for dinner once, and drinks twice. The margaritas are okay, but I have definitely had better. The food is just okay. It is a nice cozy place to enjoy a cold beer, and the prices cannot be beat – especially in Collierville.

2 Mexican restaurant reviews in ONE week?! Unheard of! I think I’ve only been to 4 Mexican restaurants total in my life. Anyways, I was out in Collierville yesterday, and given that I am never there, I immediately went to my handy Unilocal app to scope out the restaurant situation. I must have still been on my high from Los Compadres because the reviews here piqued my interest and I decided to give it a whirl. Starving, I immediately ordered the tortilla soup. I am a cilantro and avocado junkie so as soon as I read those two words, my appetizer fate was sealed. When it came out, it was gorgeous. I mean, it was a really stunning soup. Seriously, check out the photo of it. I was expecting the best soup I’ve ever had… but upon tasting it, everything fell flat. I don’t know how something that pretty and full of yummy ingredients could be so bland. A little disappointed, I decided to go with the chimichanga — now that was a yummy lunch. The location of this place can’t be beat, and our waitress was very nice. She disappeared for a bit and I had to flag down someone else to get our check, but I can’t be upset about it because they were absolutely packed. It is next door to Bogie’s so if I’m ever in the area, that will win, but if you like Mexican food, I would definitely try this place.

Best Mexican food in C’ville. Passed my carnitas test. Juicy, tender, well-marbled and generous.(Beware the pork tip you can shoot from a slingshot, which these are not.) They offer three sizes of draft XX lager: 14, 22 and pitcher at reasonable prices. The restaurant is a good size. Not spacious but not tiny either. The way they’ve got it laid out and booth height allow for a little privacy on one side, while the other is wide open with community seating possible. I’m going back to try the carne asada.
