It was 90 degrees. Mad dogs, Englishmen… and us. The place was nearly deserted. The trails were nice, but the Visitor’s/Nature Center had apparently been closed for years. A visit to the park office got us some helpful advice and some maps.

The Park Rangers are the rudest, most power hungry, assholes you will ever come across. They are fat, lazy, and cleary think they work in the City or something. This park is not maintained at all. Don’t waste your time here… go to Green Lane!

Very nice park we took our engagement pictures here. So highly recommend it for that and anything else.

Nice park with interesting hiking paths. Didn’t get to explore all of the park… will update once I do. Wanted to point out that the gps isn’t accurate for getting into the park. Mayhall is the only road that got us into the park itself.

Depressing and poorly maintained! Go to Norristown instead.

Searching for a new spot to shoot photos in a natural setting, I found a green blob on Google Maps named Evansburg State Park, just ten miles or so down Germantown Pike. I ventured in last week to do some exploring, and to enjoy some peace and quiet for a day. First of all, almost nobody was there. I drove in and parked in a real nook of a corner, and was slow to get out of the car. An SUV quickly came in after me and circled around in a roundabout to head back the way it came — through the window, it seemed to be a park ranger or something. I waved, he waved back, and I guess he was making sure I wasn’t some punk kid lugging a case of beer into the woods or something. I found a trailhead immediately and walked to the right, guided along the path by a series of dots spraypainted on nearby trees. This part got confusing, as there are numerous trails and they seemed to intersect with each other at numerous points. Needless to say, I got pretty lost for a while, but never really cared because that was sort of my intention. I had no problem getting around physically, but a few obstacles along the trails might cause problems for less agile hikers than myself. One trail followed along the Skippack Creek, leading me through the woods and to an open field with a horse trail along the rim. I saw signs in various portions of the park indicating where hunting was allowed. There was also a nature center, a camping area, a picnic area, four softball fields, and the creek for fishing, none of which I utilized but it’s good to know they’re there. This is a beautiful walk through the woods, and I’d suggest it to any lover of the outdoors.
