I love produce stands. Fresh veggies that smell and taste like the ones from my childhood, colorful local personalities behind the counter, crazy low prices, what’s not to love? I found this stand on my way to pick up a Craigslist purchase, stopped on a whim because I had a craving for fresh tomatoes. I got a basket of beautiful«seconds», a cucumber and a gorgeous canary melon for $ 5! On the way home my car was fragrant with the smell of those tomatoes. They had a good selection available. Peppers, onions, garlic, lots of other veggies. Peaches, nectarines, watermelon, canary melons, honey lopes, and others. Everything was ripe and smelled delicious. The kicker was they were closing as we left and on the way back to the car, they told us to take a few bunches of zinnias since they wouldn’t keep until the next day. I got home, whipped up a delicious tomato and cucumber salad with balsamic vinegar, basil and sea salt then ate it while enjoying the splendid rainbow of fresh cut flowers on my table.
