I wanted to give this place one more chance since it has been long time that I haven’t been there. What a mistake! I walked in, sat down at a table and kept waiting waiting and waiting. I waited 20 minutes just to have a menu in front of me. Nobody was interested in me. So I stood up, got my coat and left. Most awkward 20 minutes of my life. If you feel like you want to torture yourself plesse try this place out. If you find everything all right then go to a closest clinic and have yourself checked!

Always craving this place. There is nothing on the menu you’d be disappointed in ordering However they could improve their service

We ordered the AK café premium breakfast and the Kusbasi Pide. It is the first time trying Turkish breakfast, which I’m glad I did. The tastes and textures of the cheeses, cream, jams and bread are a nice light combination. The tea was crisp and I requested mint to go along. The service was nice and the girls were sweet. I didn’t like the Pide as much, the flavor was bland but my husband loved it. This place is family friendly!

I’ve been craving a burger for so long and the ak burger definitely satisfied that craving! It was so tender and juicy and the meat was top quality. The onions and tomatoes were roasted and sweet which complimented the zesty flavors of the pickles. The side apple fries had a crispy outside and soft inside, fried to perfection. The lahmacun was also delicious. The service was mediocre. Not sure if it was due to a culture/language barrier or just unfriendliness. Nothing major to keep me away though.

This was my first and last time eating at Ak Café. I ordered the Lamb Chop sandwich and it barely had any lamb with burnt bell peppers and onion. On top of that, it took 40 for us to get our food, which was two sandwiches and a meat pie.

I have been here a few times with my friends and my kids for breakfast. The service is little slow, but the food is always fresh and well prepared. Their lahmacun whic is turkish pizza is one of the best in NJ. I would definitely go back for breakfast and lahmacun

I always come here for the traditional Turkish breakfast. Great dish combo at a reasonable price. The fresh cream and honey is the highlight of this combo in my opinion. Only been here for breakfast/brunch so I can’t comment on the dinner portion. The service here is good as long as your expectations are real. The staff is real serious and don’t go out of their way to be friendly.

We ordered two AK Mixed Grill platters to go this past weekend. As I was placing my order over the phone, I quickly realized the waitress felt it was a chore answering my questions, I wanted to know what would be included in the platter, I asked if rice would be included in the order, I guess the waitress didn’t understand me but she made it clear in the manner in which she spoke she didn’t want to answer anything. She didn’t know what pita bread was, or she just couldn’t understand English but it was a bit annoying repeating myself. I brushed it off because I was hungry and I enjoy AK when I sit down in the restaurant. Better than Toros on Hazel IMO. But unfortunately I’ve noticed that over the years the quality of the food and service has declined. No matter, this order was preempted by reminiscing the glory days, nothing would stand in my way. Food took forever to come but understandable it’s a mixed grill. We barely got any couscous and NORICE. Sufficed to say the reaction to no rice wasn’t pretty ugly. AK Café needs to step their game up, I can name SO many other Turkish spots with better food and excellent service: Toros on Main, Huzur on Main(not much on service but the food to pricing ratio is amazeballs), OZ on Main(which is probably the best Turkish food you will find in Paterson but ridic expensive), Cinar in Pal Park(best Manti you will find in a restaurant). I miss the good old days of AK Café, when the food was great and they didn’t skimp you on the rice and the service was impeccable. I hope the owners read this and bring about some serious changes. I love coming to this restaurant to break my fast during the month of Ramadan, their Iftaar spread is fantastic and never fails to satisfy me. I hate to see this happen to AK.

The staff is rude. They should vacuum and do the cleaning after the customers leave. It’s noisy. And, I think they don’t care how you order your meat. It’s always overcooked with the black parts on the meat. After changing the owner, the food is getting bad !

The food is delicious, especially the mixed grille platter! The cakes are made fresh and they are a must have. The german chocolate cake is by far one of the best cakes I have ever had. I want to give this place a five star rating based on their food quality but I am going to give it a four star just because the service is not good at all. They’re awful :(

As far as desserts go, Ak Café has a great variety. Their cakes are a family favorite that we buy on every occasion. We ordered a large cake order for an event however due to an emergency we had to cancel a few weeks before; they ended up making the cake anyway and trying to charge us for it claiming we never told them, even though we called and told then to cancel it, it was a mess and they didn’t handle it very well. After numerous times dining in here and being disappointed half of the time we decided the best thing is to just get to-go meals. The only problem with this place would have to be the staff. Some were fine & some just couldn’t have cared less. Service was often very slow as the café got busier. I recommend it for desserts & to-go !

Rude staff and might I add we’ve been going there for a long time and won’t be going anymore.. went in yesterday and had a burned to the crisp omelet… asked for another … it came in 2 min LITERALLY soaked in oil. waitress had a huge attitude when I didn’t want it claiming it was busy … so she decided never to come to our table again. … I also wanna add that I was charged $ 6 for 4 mozzarella sticks(which used to come with a few onion rings and Some fries) It seems their portions are getting smaller and prices are the same and it’s just a hassle to enjoy anything there!!! Also the platter for breakfast has like 2 pieces of meat on it now. what am I paying nearly $ 13 for ?? I’ll be taking my business to toros where its friendly and food is great ! Ak café get it together … seriously there is so much better competition !!!

Just paying another visit to one of my favorite breakfast spots with my sister(who I call my fellow foodie family member). Granted AK Café is a bit of a trek from where I live(about a 40 – 50 minute drive), but I was off from work today and it was a beautiful day for a drive. Ordered the familiar AK Café premium breakfast and a pair of simit breads and both equaled the quality of my previous experiences — neither did not disappoint. Decided to try something new so we ordered the veggie omelet(tough decision not to order the omelet with the turkish pastrami, especially for a carnivore like me!), and it was very very good. The omelet had a nice golden color and(for me) had that nice slight tinge of char without being overcooked on the inside. It was a very light dish and I recommend it for those who are looking for a light meal.

I usually get pick up from here once a week. The food is excellent. I’ve tried many things on the menu and non of them have disappointment me. I especially love the black cumin salad and the cigarette pastries. My biggest complaint is that they’re expensive. It just seems crazy paying 50+ dollars some times. Its right near my work so its really convenient.

I drive past this place everyday but yesterday I decided to check it out for the first time. The inside of this restaurant is very clean and it has a comfortable atmosphere. I only placed an order to go buy the lady at the counter was very sweet. I ended up getting the Mengen sandwich and man it tasted so good. I really want to go back and get that lamb chop sandwich and most definitely come and check out their breakfast to dine in. This place is now on my go to spots for now on.

Iv never been let down as far as quality of the meal I ordered. Absolutely delicious. As far as service goes. They’re awful ! You will have to wait over 20 minutes to place your order followed by another 20 minutes to refill your drink. But you can’t blame the servers, because they aren’t allowed to keep their tips. Tips arnt even split amongst them at the end of the day or week or even month! Why would they work harder if they arnt going to be rewarded.

AK Café is a wonderful place to have some food. The staff are inviting and attentive. Having spent a few weeks in Istanbul, the menu has an excellent cross section of dishes found in Turkey — from Pide to Mixed Grill. The falafel appetizer was cooked to perfection, crisp skin and moist inside — definitely better than average! We also ordered AKsalad as a starter — enough for four people! Adana is grilled ground lamb served with flat bread, salad and french fries. My guest had a sandwich with pastrami and Turkish sausage which came with french fries. When leaving, we admired the incredible cakes and pastries in the display case. They reminded me of Black Hound cakes. The owner starting talking to us and offered us to take some pastries home — which we got around to snacking on later that night. FANTASTIC!!! My only regret is not having had any coffee, but they fed us so well — there wasn’t any room!!! This is a place I will take my Turkish friends to remember their homes!

Drove all the way from East Village to this café for a nice Turkish brekkie with my Turkish besties, that means it should be something, right? And it turned out to be real fab. All the food and tea and Salep drink; all of them were delectable! AInt really sure how much each item was because my two turkish friends treated me the meal. You can pretty much pick the dish blindedfully because all of them are good!

My kinda sorta«uncle» Steve(lifelong friend of my dad), who lives in Teaneck and has the scoop on the Jersey eats brought the three of us to try this authentic Turkish spot. We started with the red lentil soup, served nicely with pressed hot bread, a couple of little monkey bowls of dry red chili pepper and a dried mint, along with with a sliced lemon. Not the best lentil soup I ever had, but getting to mix and match some of the other ingredients provided was a nice way to experiment to please your own flavor palate. The haloumi cheese salad had to be photoed as it was nicely presented and had bright flavors. The best thing that we had was the shish kebab, both chicken and lamb, which were very juicy and cooked to perfection. My dad explained that the word shish is number six in Farsi and that is actually why it is called that, you should expect six pieces of the kebab to an order. Makes sense, right? The tea, to be expected was delicious and we split a Turkish baklava, that was sweet and the perfect accompaniment. As I am preparing for a trip to Athens and Istanbul, this was a good reminder of what awaits in my near future.
