I’m writing this review because choosing a place to get my hair cut was a huge source of stress for me. Like really HUGE. MAJOR. I had convinced myself that anywhere that would charge less than $ 45-$ 50 would result in some disastrous haircut that would leave me crying and confused. But at the same time, I didn’t want to leave my wallet empty and I didn’t want to wait a week or more for an appointment. My solution: Great Clips. I chose the Steelyard location because it’s close to me and actually had some decent reviews. After signing in, I waited a total of five minutes before someone was able to cut my hair, which is actually less time than I’ve waited at places where I had appointments. The girl, Alex, who cut my hair was really sweet, and continued to check in with me throughout the cut to make sure it was what I wanted. It was done in 15 minutes and I walked out with a cut I was really happy with. My fears were conquered and my wallet was spared. It was a great day.

Worst haircut ever. Thanks to this experience I will never return to Great Clips. The man cut my hair, and the request was simple. Yet he managed to butcher it. I wish I hadn’t gone in at all. Incompetent.

I think everyone has had that moment when they let their hair grow out into a stringy mess, then find themselves in a desperate rush to get cleaned up for a special occasion. Enter Great Clips. We all know they offer inexpensive haircuts, and an almost guaranteed immediate appointment, but will the haircut be any good? If you go to the location at Steelyard, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The staff are all very friendly, and they will actually spend a decent chunk of time working on your hair. I always get layers, and I think they put more time into it than many of the pricier salons I’ve been to. Only downside? They never give me the full shampoo and massage treatment, but for $ 14 I can’t complain too much. Maybe nice time I’ll have to drop some hints that I’m looking for some more pampering!

I was worried. As in, very worried. What in the world was I doing, going to a Great Clips in Steelyard? Why was I even considering going anywhere other than the expensive salon I’d been going to for years? Reasons: Cost and Time. It takes weeks, as in WEEKS to get a hair appointment. By that time, not only is my hair even more grown out, but inevitably, something else comes up that night that i have to cancel on because of a hair appointment. Even the haircut takes more time(ahem, I’ll admit, there is some credibility to skill equating to time, I get that). Then I leave with a $ 80 bill and blow-dried hair. So I tried Steelyard’s Great Clips on a whim. I needed a haircut and I didn’t want to wait or pay for a salon price. Now that I’ve gone to the«dark side», I may never go back! I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. My shampoo was great — in fact, I was thinking I could just visit for the $ 5 head massage! My hair was cut exactly as I’d instructed(1.5 inches off, layering and a face frame) and it was blow-dried with no frills, no gel, just like I like it. I’m very happy! In the midst of this, the whole staff bantered back and forth, it was a fun atmosphere. The only negative I could think of was that the stylists seemed to constantly be counting their tips. I felt obligated to tip. Then again, I should feel obligated to tip and $ 24 for a shampoo, cut, blow-dry and tip, is MORE than enough of a deal for me. ps: Another negative? Extra cash in hand… which I promptly spent at Marshalls on a new dress. Oops?

I’m a drastic hair changer, I often grow my hair to shoulder length only to chop it to a pixie. Or go from a bob to a pixie. It’s hard for me to find people who will cut my hair short enough, without making me look 80 years old, or like I got the wayne and garth«suck cut.» I had a hairstylist here who was more than happy to chop away, took a lot of pride and pleasure in doing it, and blended a cut that I wanted using 3 different pictures. I got exactly what I wanted. I also take my 10 year old daughter here. 2 of my girls have long hair, I just trim their bangs and do a split-end check or gum-removal repair every now and again. My 10 year old daughter will have none of it. She caught all of the black-portugeuse and jew and curly scotch hair genes from my husband. My hair is super thick and soft. I am clueless on what to do. My daughter is at that age where she realizes mommy doesn’t know what to do with her hair, and she knows what she wants, but doesn’t know how to do it herself. She really likes the stylists at this location, and they let me hover and ask questions about what to possibly do to tame the mane. Major kudos for dealing with two very different styles of hair well. And of course, very nice price. I’m a heavy tipper for awesome haircuts, and the price is so nice here I can tip, like, 100% of the cost of the cut.

First of all, if I could give this place no stars, that would make me happy. I don’t understand how a hair salon does not know what a wash and blowdry is. The manager has the gall to tell me she didn’t know what I was talking about. The girl who was doing my did not know either! She started blow drying my hair soaking wet and loaded tons of mousse in my hair… I can barely run my fingers through it without hitting snarls. Needless to say I eventually told the girl to stop because my hair looked like crap. All I wanted to do was relax before my dad’s memorial service today and all I got was crappy hair and attitude from management and the«hair stylist» rolling her eyes at me behind my back. Ya know, I was enough nice enough to give her a tip for what work she did do. NEVERAGAIN!

good place for kid haircuts, and adult hair cuts if you’re willing to accept adequate haircuts. Service is really nice, and they are really fast(otherwise I’d give them a 3). They get you in & out.

I don’t have much free time, and when I have it, you can better believe that there are many things that I’d much rather be doing than getting a haircut. That’s why I come here. The haircuts are high quality, the prices are low(and they offer periodic coupons from time to time!), and I’m usually in and out in 20 minutes. I am also glad that they have a great selection of mags on the rare occasions when I need to wait – they always have the newest ESPN: The Magazine, which sure beats reading the months-old Newsweeks and U.S. News and World Reports that other salons have. Best of all, they don’t end every haircut with a high-pressure sales pitch to purchase an overpriced hair product! I hate that, and I always feel like a bum when I roll out my «I don’t have much time in the morning to put in a product, I just wash and go» line that I use when I feel the sales pitch coming on at other salons. Fortunately, Great Clips saves me from having to do that charade, and I appreciate them deeply for the fact that they don’t attempt to foist fancy hair products on me.
