Duke’s Bar-B-Que

This converted mobile home makes some darn good BBQ! I had the 2 meat special, brisket and sausage and was not disappointed.

Delicious barbecue in a simple «hole in the wall» environment. Just the kind of place we live to find. Duke, himself, took our order and said he’s been in business for 32 years. Steady business. So, he must be doing it right!. Cash or check only but worth the stop!

The owner Duke came out spoke to myself, my husband, and my cousins. Very friendly atmosphere. Barbeque, Potato salad, and beans were excellent.
Differently worth the drive to Cleveland, Texas.

Food was ok. Lots of brown sugar in the beans. Potato salad was very good. Not eggy at all. More of a German style. Ribs were tender and brisket ok. But the meat just lacked flavor without the BBQ sauce. The concern I have is cleanliness. I wiped the table with of paper napkin. It game up very dirty. My coke can was sticky. I couldn’t see the kitchen area so not sure what that looked like. By the way… Where is this stuff cooked/​smoked anyway? The family that run the place seamed awesome friendly and hard working. Wish them well!

Seriously good BBQ with yummy sides to boot. I’d give it 5 stars but the only thing on the menu that was actually available was the beef. We attempted to order 3 other things before we finally just asked what we could have. Diners be aware too that this is a cash/​check only establishment. All of that being said, the BBQ was super delicious and we would go there again.

Stopped by here with a group after workin’ outdoors on a hot, muggy day. It was cool inside, and the aromas from the kitchen made our mouths water. Whoa, were we happy when we started diggin’ in, and I’m even happier I got enough to take home! Mm-​mm, good.

Top-​of-​the-​line barbecue. I had it on my drive from Livingston to Houston a couple days ago. The potato salad was quite good with a bit of a mashed texture, and the beans rivaled the best I have ever had. Both sides tasted like they were homemade, which is often not the case at such places where you can tell they came from a mass purchase. I also had links, brisket, and chicken. The people I was with also had ribs and were very happy with them.
To be sure, I currently live in central Texas where there is a lot of superbly delicious barbecue. Obviously the taste of meat here is no John Mueller or blacks barbecue in Lockhart. But it’s still damn delicious, and the service was really really friendly and welcoming. I’ve had barbecue only in a few spots on the eastern side of Texas, and so far this place has been my favorite.

It may not look like much, and is off the beaten path a bit, but if you want good brisket this is the place to go! Now in a town of less thank 8k people and no less than 6 BBQ restaurants in a 6 miles radius, there are plenty of places to get BBQ in Cleveland. Dukes is the best brisket by far! I often get their sliced brisket sandwiches (2 for less than $ 11), their stuffed baked potato is amazing! They spread it out the size of a to-​go container and load it up with good stuff. The gentleman that I call «Duke» is friendly and makes me smile with his upbeat «glad to see you» attitude. The lady, I assume is his wife cracks me up. I’ve made it my mission to try to make her smile, but that hasn’t happened yet. Instead I get the «hairy eyeball look», almost as if I’ve walked into her home and insisted she feed me! Don’t expect a warm welcome from her but between the warmness of Duke and the deliciousness of the brisket it’s worth the annoyed looks!
