Trust in the Thrust. I checked out the Gauntlet for Gold at Turner Hall over the weekend. What a spectacle! It was a series of wrestling matches. They call it pro-wrestling but if I were them, I’d throw a «sorta» or «semi» in before that because it didn’t especially seem Pro to me. The first few matches were typically«skinny white boy» vs «overweight couch dweller». Sometimes they had costumes to jazz things up. I personally liked the Egyptian Snake Man who hissed around both in the ring and out and the baby dick guy who wore diapers and a tie. As the night went on, more people from out of town started joining in the fighting. These guys were obviously from out of town because they were 1) Fit and 2) Tan. Though they were just as umm… how do you say it «fake» as the other guys, at least they were buff enough to make it look real. They slapped chests, pounded the floor and did some pretty cool aerial back flip jumps! I have to hand it to some of these guys, they were really flexible! What I really enjoyed about the evening were the spectators though. The place was packed with people who not only knew the wrestlers, but also their favorite moves! They got up, cheered and had hand-written posters regarding inside jokes that I wasn’t privy too. Can these guys really be entertained enough to come out week after week to see two or more men wearing Lycra throwing each other on the ground all night? Apparently!
So in short, this event is absolutely worth checking out! Maybe not often enough to know who these guys are, but give it a try — it’s kinda hilarious! (plus they have a bar with $ 2 drinks)
