This place reminds me of an old diner built in the fifties or so. It is small, lots of windows and friendly staff. Linda waited on me. She was proud of this place and glad to work here. She makes the place more interesting. There were many call in orders while I was in there eating. No other customers on a Saturday around 1, but one more person showed up before I left. One person called in 3 orders of pot stickers while I was there. So I figured the pot stickers must be really good. I’ll definitely try them next time. I went in during lunch menu and ordered Kung Pao chicken which came with cup of hot and sour soup. The hot and sour soup wasn’t very spicy to me and I’m a bit of a light weight when it comes to really hot food. It was okay, not as much zip and zing as I’m used to but I enjoyed it. The Kung Pao was also, okay. Not very spicy and more oil than I’d like. I took most of it home. I added some chili sauce that was on the table and this really helped. I wished I’d put it in the soup too. I ordered it with Chow Mein which was a bit bland and I took most of it home but decided not to eat it as it was pretty oily. The chicken however, was good for dinner later. I also ordered some crab puffs. Super light and airy and didn’t seem heavy or oily. Very good. I took most of them home as well and they were very good later. The food isn’t the best but the best around this area. I’ll probably go back and try pot stickers and something else another time.

Thank you for the great reviews that led us to this restaurant! We were the only customers inside on a Sunday afternoon. Continual, solicitous service and a willingness to let us «camp-out» at the table, for an extra hour while I finished some blog work on my laptop, makes them my hands-down favorite when we are back in this town. Best so far: hot tea, calamari appetizer, pan fried noodles, house fried rice, & egg foo yung. Seriously the best we’ve had anywhere & at anytime. That’s 40 years of nationwide Asian eating talking. Hope this town appreciates this chef. If not, he should hightail to somewhere that will.

Had the pan fried noodles with pork and the foil wrapped chicken both were great. I also enjoyed the fact I could watch my food being cooked in front of me. Not that I will be back in Clearlake any time soon but if I were I would eat here again!

This is such a great place to eat! The food is always excellent, I have never been disappointed, and the service is great. They are always friendly, they remember me every time I go in, I highly recommend it. And no MSG, which really makes me happy! I was so upset when they had their kitchen fire and had to close for a while, I missed them so much.

A good Chinese place. Daniel sure knows what he’s doing! But the sauces could have more«pop»…it’s the LACK of MSG that’s the problem. I would much rather go to a place the used MSG in small amounts, when it is only detectable as a flavor enhancer, because it makes the food taste better. MSG occurs naturally and is present in the chicken and beef they cook(mmmm!) so avoiding it to please nutso customers is a mistake. I also wish they would put broccoli back in the General Tso’s Chicken! My favorite dish there is kung-pao shrimp. Just the right amount of heat, shrimp don’t get chewy, and tons of fresh crunchy veggies. Bravo.

Just had the family dinner and it was awesome. I moved her from southern California where they have some of the best chinese food and this place ranks right up there with some of the best I’ve had. I would recommend Magic Wok to anyone wanting a friendly family chinese restaurant.

I had Mongolian beef. Flavor is good but the meat is so chewy it’s hard to chew it. I thought I was eating escargot. Come on guys take it from a nurse that is why people choke. Your jaws get so tired of chewing you swallow and choke. I would try a different dish though.

This restaurant has been in business for years, which in Clearlake is impressive and generally a sign of quality. The staff here is so courteous and the food is delicious. It actually tastes of real ingredients and not just MSG. Their house fried rice and house chow mein have huge prawns, and they give you good quantities of the dish.

My favorite place to eat in Lake County. The staff is very friendly. I have brought all my out of town friends here and they all seem to love it as well.

Just had dinner here with my man. I had the Mongolian beef and he had shrimp fried rice. All delicious. Lots of flavor in the Mongolian beef. Orange chicken is okay. Service was great. Very nice lady. Definitely going to be back

I’m long overdue for writing a review of this gem of a Chinese restaurant. I’ve been dining here regularly since 1998 and have seen Magic Wok at its best and not so yummy times. Daniel, the chef/part owner is the flavor meister of this tasty establishment. It is his original recipes that make this a stand out among the typically dull Chinese fare one finds everywhere. For example, his hot and sour soup(available free everyday with the lunch specials) pulls no punches. It is hot(very well peppered) but equally tangy resulting in a zinger that will keep you coming back for more. I usually squeeze some lemon in to intensify the zinger factor. The menu is typical but with the sauces all flavor intensified without resorting to MSG. Whatever favorite dish you may order, you’ll find it’s flavor decidedly richer, deeper, more intense. Daniel knows his sauces and consistently delivers magic in every wok performance from his recently remodeled open kitchen. My favorite is the seafood combination with its exquisite white ginger sauce. My only problems with the food over the years has been an occasional fill in chef that didn’t measure up, or the prawns that were occasionally not so fresh and plump or the beef that, all too often, tastes questionable. Service is and has always been prompt and friendly. Prices are reasonable but it would be nice if they included an egg roll on their lunch specials instead of just a piece of fried won ton. This, and Daniel’s second restaurant(Shan-gri-la in Middletown) is hands down the best Chinese in lake county. Especially with Daniel at the wok!

Many many years ago, I liked this place. I haven’t been here in about 10 years though. I stopped in today, and sadly I won’t be back. The place was clean and the staff was very pleasant, so it is unfortunate that the food was so bad. Both dishes were very dry, without any visible sauce which left them flavourless, and our crab wontons seemed oddly dried out. It was edible, but completely unappetizing. We didn’t finish.

Me and my husband love this place the only reason it doesn’t get a full 5 star is because it’s closed currently for repairs.

I have been going here several times over the past years. While it has always been pretty good I have noticed the restaurant is in need of a good deep cleaning. If They would do a good cleaning I would give this a 5 stars. the vegetarian choices are good and the food is always fresh, but the greasiness on the tables and on the walls just a little too much for meI. If the restaurant reads this, do not take it as a put-down but as a suggestion to be above the other restaurants in Clear Lake. Because I will be back I just dont like the clammy feeling when I go in at now.

This place was a diamond in the rough!!! As vegans it’s hard to find something to eat that is very good while were out and this was WONDERFUL! We enjoyed the sweet and sour Tofu and the braised string beans(spicy green beans)! Linda was very very Nice and Friendly! We will definitely be going back :)

We have eaten hear several times. We sometimes get a creepy male waiter, and other times we get a hardcore female waiter. We do not care for either of them. The food is okay, but I’ve seen some things that should be refrigerated just sitting out which makes me wonder about the safety of eating here. We have never gotten sick though.

Food does not taste good. I am a local and have tried many different dishes there. The chicken vegetable is their best dish. Chicken curry taste like they use a top ramen seasoning packet.

Great potstickers, great service, friendly staff and in the summer the AC is cranking. Just to warn you though the«Magic Wok«in middle town is not the same. different owners and chef’s. I much prefer the clearlake wok. Enjoy!
