the best small bakery in Mid Mchigan. Bakery has been there since Late 1800s Saved by the local police force from closing. They now have opened a place in Gaylord. They bake Salt Bread(not high in sodium an old recipe made with a starter not yeast) strong bread smell most people learn to love with a thick texture” thier best seller. Other great choices from a good bakery and of course donuts. Also have have great coffee their own blend. Nice gift shop with mugs T shirts and more. It is also a great public relations community effort where cops are not guys with guns but bakers and Baristas in a friendly cordial meeting place.

Donuts are soooo good! After picking up some cider at Stan’s Cider Mill, we just needed some donuts to go with it and Cops & Doughnuts did an EXCELLENT job. :) We unfortunately didn’t get to try too many, but the old fashioned and cider donut were fantastic. While driving between Ann Arbor and Traverse City, we ended up going through Clare two times and kind of fell in love with this sleepy town. We will probably head back and can’t wait to stop by Cops & Doughnuts again!

Great concept place is fun they have a good variety of eats from every kind of donut and goody you can think of, and a maple bacon donut«the squealer! There’s lunch available if your all sugared out and a fun gift shop with some unique copper themed gear and gifts. If your ever near Clare better be there!

I have seen some real cheesy public access TV style commercials for this place, so my expectations were quite low even though I was excited to try Cops and Doughnuts after seeing their commercial so many times. I didn’t go to this location, but rather someone brought their apple fritter doughnuts to a gathering. And it was amazing. No joke, one of the best donuts I’ve ever had. Moist and dense, yet light enough for me to eat an entire doughnut, this was a little sweeter than I usually like, but it was fried perfectly and so damn fresh and tasty… I had to stop resisting arrest and gave into Cops and Donuts! If you are near Clare, or know someone passing by, make a citizen’s arrest on some of these cop’s donuts.

Fantastic little donut shop and Café. The omelette we had was amazing and the donuts are made fresh daily and indeed top notch. It’s quite the experience to bring your family as they have a store and shop here as well. Lots of creativity here too.

Awesome donuts, cute shop, lovely Amish weaved baskets in the front window. Picked up one in the shape of the Michigan Mitten to take back to Georgia with me. Love this place, definitely will be stopping back in the future when I visit home!

It’s definitely worth a stop in, if your path is taking you nearby. Good old-fashioned style pastries, and decent coffee. Lots of merchandise to peruse over on the store side.

Donuts. Tasty, tasty donuts. All the donuts are top notch. The baked goods are pretty danged good to. Look for the Bialys. Its like a bagel and an English Muffin fusion and makes a great base for sandwiches or just eat it toasted with some butter and/or cream cheese. Anyway, I live minutes from here and come here pretty frequently, but didn’t try the food(which is a fairly recent addition) until today. I tried the Double Up Reuben after a friend told me it was one of the best he’s ever had. As I’ve stated many times before, the Reuben is one of my landmark sandwiches which can be used to assess a restaurants overall capabilities. I now need to try more stuff here because THISREUBENWAS A HOMERUN! I got it to go, and when I got it home and opened the box I was immediately surprised at the size of it. As you can see in my photo I grabbed a tape measure and this thing was EIGHT inches across and THREE inches high! It was overflowing with REALDEAL, hand cut, THICK corned beef, not some paper thin, pre-packaged deli cut junk. The cheese was cascading over the beef like a waterfall of happiness and the house made bread was griddled perfectly. I would definitely put this one in the top three Reubens I’ve ever had. One strange observation, though: no discount for law enforcement. Pretty cool display of agency paraphernalia, though.

This place is so beyond cool! It’s a restaurant AND bakery AND store! The raspberry muffins were to die for! I also really really love the oatmeal with raisin and date cookies! Got my dad 2 of the head-size cinammon rolls and he devoured them! The people are really nice and helpful, and everything I tried was really amazing! I can’t wait to go back! /doughnuts!

Stop in on the way up north. Had a fabulous pulled pork sandwich. Breakfast is served all day. My youngest had pancakes and loved them. Donuts and cookies all look wonderful. Everyone walks out with a box! We happened to park in the back parking lot and the back of the building is unexpectedly unique. Worth the walk around.

Awesome bakery which also serves good food in a restaurant section. In addition there’s a large gift shop of «Cop-Doughnut» inspired merchandise. Check out the goods, but first you should have lunch at the Whitehouse burger joint which is a couple of blocks down the street.

GOHERE. GETAWESOMEDONUTS. Okay, that’s pretty simplistic. I’ll elaborate … I’ve been coming to C&D 4 – 6 times a year for the last 5 years(it’s on our way to our cabin in northern MI.) and it is a must-stop for us! We love everything about it: the owners who talk to you, the friendly employees, the old store nostalgia inside and, of course, the donuts! We’ve tried many different kinds and never been disappointed. Everything is fresh and fairly priced. I absolutely love the pecan rolls, the cinnamon rolls and the giant ‘elephant ear’ which reminds me of what my dear mom used to do with leftover pie dough when I was a kid. So wonderful. Be warned, the popular items(like those yummy pecan rolls) can sell out early.

After grabbing burgers at nearby Whitehouse, the GF’s family and I walked over to the famed doughnut shop and bakery in Clare, Michigan. Since 1896, it’s been in operation and there was once a time where the business was within weeks of closing. That’s when the nine members(yes, all nine) of the local police department banned together to save the doughnut shop. Renamed ‘Cops and Doughnuts,’ this business boasts a wide range of confections. Staring at the offerings, it was hard to choose just one. Which is why we decided to go with a host of them. Of course, when I saw the maple glazed bacon doughnuts, I had to get one of those as well. Before we indulged in this sugary high, we stopped by to check out the adjoining store, which offering some kitschy items related to cops and doughnuts, as well as a bunch of shirts hocking Michigan Mitten pride. But eventually, it was time to enjoy. The apple turnover and cherry-glazed doughnuts were delicious and home-made. There’s also something about rice crispy treats that are from a bakery and not from a blue-chrome wrapper. But naturally, the real star of the lot was the maple bacon doughnut. It tasted like breakfast in your mouth — salty, sweet, syrup, creamy, and crunchy — all in one bite. So if you’re ever in Clare, Michigan or a relative stone’s throw a way, stop by and get your fix!

Stopped in here on my way to Harrison Mi. The place was packed! The Pecan rolls were great… I even bought two loaves of salt risen bread that was delicious. The gift shop was cute but a little pricey… love the name. definitely recommend stopping here if you are on your way north.

Great place to stop on the journey up north from metro Detroit! The staff are super friendly and helpful. I asked for a cake maple donut(which they didn’t have in the case) and the girl helping me didn’t think twice about heading to the back to make it up special for me. Superb service.

Came for the doughnuts and they did not disappoint. The best you will find for miles around. Really like the local Amish crafts for sale. The diner section must be having some problem, because there wasn’t a single customer in there when we visited. The help wanted sign on the door seems to be indicating that there is trouble in paradise. The bathrooms were so-so.
