Recently we had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful establishment and were thoroughly pleased with the experience. A charming ambiance set the stage for a wonderful meal, with great service and a smiling wait staff. I had the octopus appetizer and the Chilean Sea Bass which was fantastic. Good wine, great food and everything a dining experience should be. My congratulations to the owner in getting it right. Plan on returning again as soon as I can. L.B.

We are locals and have been going to Artie for years. Food, service and atmosphere are always consistently great. The staff know how to deliver service with a smile. The true italian dishes have more of a Greek flair so not my go too however all fish dishes, meats excellent. It is a place you truly feel like you are home a very comfortable restaurant and we will always go back. Spiro the owner knows how to deliver with food and service and well trained staff.

We visited one late, Saturday afternoon. The valet parking was nice but found it odd that our car was not parked in the lot. It was taken offsite. The inside is nicely decorated, but it is a cross between a nice restaurant and a bar. It could be ‘cozy’ depending on where a group is seated; our location was not cozy. The table was seated at the handicap access door along the sidewalk, and the one side of the table is aligned with a wall-long bench seat. The wife and I got this bench seating, and we let the wife’s parents sit in the chairs. The bench was not comfortable. At all. I found myself constantly squirming in the seat trying to find a comfortable position. In addition, the wife was on the inside with no access to go to the bathroom until I moved. Thankfully, there weren’t other diners at the table next to us, but if there were, it would have been uncomfortable and awkward. They may be trying to squeeze in too many tables. The waiter was nice but was way too comfortable in the position for our liking. For example, we did not appreciate him chewing gum. The service in general(between the waiter, other servers, and the valet parking) was«just okay». The food took a little longer than we would have liked to get to the table, but we didn’t mind as we were chatting up the day that was spent together. As a vegetarian, I always make sure they have a good selection. They did have a few choices, so that was nice. The food was pretty good, but I was not a fan of my eggplant parmigiana. I believe the others liked their meals. Based on food alone, we would probably return. You do get a basket of bread, and there is olive oil at the table for dipping. All-in-all, we’ll probably return again when we go back to City Island, but we’ll likely check out some of the other options first.

Everytime I go to City Island this is my favorite establishment to go to! The waiters and staff are professional and friendly! I don’t have much to say about Arties, only thing I can say is that you can never go wrong by picking this place! It doesn’t matter what you order to eat! The food always tastes delicious and so does their drinks! When it comes to dessert it is very hard to decide because just like their appetizers and main course, their desserts are amazingly done to perfection! Expensive but worth it! My go to place when I’m in City Island!

Service was mediocre, Fried Fishermans Platter was also mediocre, but the reason Artie’s gets a four is because of their New England Clam Chowder — So creamy and delicious — I’d go back just for that!

Artie’s is now part of Hollywood lore, where Showtime’s «Billions» filmed some dinning scenes. It has some new décor consisting of great European actresses, and maintains a high quality and creative menu. Portions are, as Donald Trump says, «Huuuge» and extremely well priced. This isn’t your regular City Island seafood joint, this is the best restaurant in all of the Bronx, not just City Island. And one way you know that is because you rub elbows with long time«City Islanders»!

Probably the best of the traditional sit-down restaurants on the City Island. Portions are huge, service is brisk and professional. Plenty of parking on the street. Highly recommend it!

My friends and I took a trip to City Island for the first time, and choose this place after the higher rated Unilocal reviews. I must say, it was a great choice! The atmosphere is cozy and the food is exactly what you would expect from an Italian/Seafood Restaurant. We ordered the coconut shrimp for an appetizer. I had the Atlantic Salmon with Pico de Gallo and the special salted caramel ice cream truffle for dessert. We washed it down with a nice bottle of Zin. My friends had Shrimp Scampi and Ziti with Broccoli for entrees with crème brûlée for dessert, which they both enjoyed. The prices were normal for the fare and the menu was huge, so you could find almost anything you were craving. The ambiance was nice. It’s a cross between a bar feel in the front with a more intimate dining feel in the other rooms. We were stuck in a corner without any windows, so I can say anything about the views. The service was the best part. Our waiter, Roberto, was friendly and attentive. We had a great conversation with him, and he never rushed us out of the restaurant. Overall, if you want some a vast menu of seafood/Italian options and accommodating service… check this place out!

Visited Artie’s after a trip to the Bronx Zoo. Having never visited City Island but always wanted to give it a go, we settled on Artie’s after checking Unilocal and Trip Advisor reviews. What a pleasant surprise. Everything from the drinks, to the service(Gigi), to the ambiance and the meal were top notch. Best scungilli salad I ever had. Excellent stuffed flounder with rice and my wife had a perfectly prepared fillet mignon. Highly recommend Artie’s.

This was our first trip to city island which was a nice summer night drive over a bridge undergoing major construction. Immediately we saw several restaurants to choose from. He had preselected Artie’s. When we arrived we were pleased with the ease of parking. We were greeted by the bartender and host when we walked in. There was a very good selection of music playing, not too loud in the background. We arrived at about ten pm. We were seated promptly and given water. The waiter came to take our drink orders. We ordered the mango margarita and Caribbean cooler. The margarita was delicious and we ordered another. For our entrees we had medium well rack of lamb with potatoes and shrimp linguine with olive oil and garlic. When the entrees arrived we had to send the lamb back because we saw blood. They immediately re grilled and brought it back. Food was delicious. Atmosphere: place was well kept, bathroom in excellent condition up to date. Dining room was well decorated. Great for a first date or a regular spot. Not as busy or with hustle bustle as other places on the island. Note: We weren’t thrilled about not getting warm bread. The bread was hard and dusty. We’re spoiled we’re used to warm bread and melted butter akin to grand luxe or craver barrel.

New to City Island, we walked in early for our 7PM reservation and spent the next hour in a lively chat with Alfie our bartender. What a nice friendlyt welcome! The food here was good, there were a couple of misses. We will go back because everyone at Artie’s was so damn nice!

I went here with a group of 8. I found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. They seated us in a private area for big groups which was nice and comfortable and away from the smaller groups and tables. Our server was attentive and gave us pointers on what to get. All in which none of us got. They served delicious bread before the meals which were nice and soft. After 8 different plates, everyone was stuffed and happy with their orders. I ordered the lobster and shrimp pasta which was huge and delicious. It had a lot of lobster and shrimp which makes it all worth the #25! Service was good and good was good but not amazing. But can’t complain. The bill for 8 of us was less than $ 300 which is a great price for us!

Artie’s was our last stop in a day long City Island food tour. We were hesitant about entering as it was very quiet in the entrance/bar area, but there were some patrons in the booths. We were taken to the furthest booth in the restaurant. I had to ask that the fan above use be turned on as it was a hot day. The waitress was not friendly nor attentive. We often had to ask other waiters or even the busboy for more bread, water, etc. We ordered the clam bake because my friend had never had it before. It was fun to wear the bibs and eat with our hands, but the seafood was mediocre. The lobster was overcooked as well as the mussels and clams. The andouille sausage and broth were the best part. Corn was also good. The seafood really should have been the star of the show so that was disappointing. It’s really a pity when fresh seafood is overcooked. Better luck next time!

Great service! Love the environment. From the outside it didn’t look like much but the food was amazing and wasn’t as expensive as I thought it would be. Definitely coming back

Good customer service and good atmosphere but mediocre food. We ordered a variety of food but none of them came to par from what I would expect when I dine at City Island. I wouldn’t come back again.

*This review is broken up into Overall Verdict(Summary), Experience/Venue/Service, and Course details. — — — Overall Verdict: Service: Okay to Average Venue: Okay — relatively small, unmemorable interior Food: Typical Italian seafood menu with average prices, but decently pleasing to the taste buds Additional details: I thought the appetizers were better than the entrees Verdict: It was okay. We all came here starving, yet I thought the whole experience and courses were just ordinary. I’d probably pass on this place next time. — — — Experience/Venue/Service: Came here with a large party of 10 on a Sunday night around 6:30pm without reservation. We were seated within 10 — 15 minutes. It was relatively empty; there was perhaps another two parties of around 5 patrons with us. The venue is a small, classy place but nothing outstanding in my eyes. Service overall was okay; I thought they were a bit on the slow side when attending to us and refilling our water. Our waiter was kind and friendly, however. — — — Course: We ordered the following: =============Appetizers: — Pan Roasted Maryland Crabcake: Sooooo tender and mouthwatering! With champagne, shallots, dijon and cream, these were devoured quickly — and I wouldn’t mind just eating these for dinner. — Fried calamari: Calamari is usually a hit or miss for me but this was very good! It was not-at-all rubbery, but so tender and decently flavored; I did not even need to dip this in marinara sauce. This also had us licking the plate clean. — Eggplant Rollatine: I’m not usually a fan of eggplants, but these were quite delectable. Overall, the appetizers were very appetizing ^_~. Yum, yum, yum! =============Entrees: We ordered three sets of Artie’s Zuppa Di Pesce for Two(as featured on «Good Day New York») in all three sauces offered: White Wine and Garlic Sauce, Homemade Marinara and Fra Diavolo Sauce. This course comes with King Crab, Whole Lobster, Clams, Mussels, Shrimp, Scallops and Calamari served over Linguine. The seafood were overall meaty and moderately succulent. See below for more details on each sauce(ranked from least to most favorite): — White Wine & Garlic Sauce: This was pretty bland. Out of the two dishes, our group of 10 hardly touched this plate. — Homemade Marinara sauce: For those who are not risk-takers with food flavoring and looking for something familiar and safe, go with this flavor. Half our group liked it, but the other half preferred the Fra Diavolo(including me) — and we had enough left over to take home. — Fra Diavolo Sauce: This was my favorite and the most popular among our group — so much so that we had nothing left on the platter! This was spicy and tasteful. Some people in the party had mixed feelings, however, with the concept of spicy seafood. Nevertheless, I recommend getting this seafood feast.

Man what happened? New owners? New chef? Very disappointing meal! We popped in for lunch and decided get a few dishes to share; a cold antipasto platter, the shrimp scampi with rice, and a salad with filet mignon. The antipasto was really sad and tired. It had marinated mushrooms, roasted peppers, olives, mozzarella, and prosciutto. Aside from the olives everything tasted stale and nasty. The peppers were super bitter, the mushrooms were rubbery, and both seemed like they came out of a forgotten and expired jar in their pantry As for the meat, it was dry(as if it was improperly stored in their fridge), and the cheese was totally flavorless. We were pretty disappointed. As for the shrimp dish, the taste was OK, but the protein to starch ratio was way, way off. There were 4 or 5 tiny shrimp served over a massive plate of buttery rice. If you’re going to just put just a few shrimp in a shrimp entrée, you really have to make sure they’re pretty good size, and also it wouldn’t hurt to have them be fresh. These were clearly not. Finally, I loved the meat in the filet mignon salad, it was superb! But there were only 3 pieces of it, along with what seemed to be an entire head of lettuce and a few pieces of red onion. In the end, all 3 dishes basically sucked. Total came to $ 50 for one of the crappiest meals I’ve had in a while. I’d hate to write Artie’s off, but this was definitely one hell of a bad meal.
