Horrible experience with Jessie she is not a Japanese stylist and her job is sloppy. Will never come bak again.

I absolutely love this place and all the stylists are great so I do not know why there are such poor reviews. J’s is a very busy salon so obviously you won’t get a next day appointment or even an appointment in a week. Yes, they are pricey, but it’s absolutely worth the price. If you want a $ 20 haircut, go to Supercuts because you’ll get what you pay for. I’ve had my hair colored and cut here many times and it’s always such a great experience. The color flatters me and the cut is on point. I’ve had most the assistants work on my hair along with Lisa herself. The students are taught a serious skill here and are required to do it to a certain standard. I absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting a great salon to do their hair.

Lisa is the best. Besides the fact that it takes at least 2 weeks advance to make an appointment with her, she really knows how to do her job right and even educate you about protecting your hair if you interested. She taught me how to curl my hair myself too. :)

This whole time I thought the reputation here was more hype than anything. I was wrong af. After trying a plethora of hair studios in the area and not particularly liking any of them, I finally decided to give it a try. I got really lucky and was able to come in day of – got squeezed in to Lisa’s schedule about 45 min after calling. I’d definitely suggest making an appointment. Lisa is probably THE sweetest lady I’ve ever met! It seemed like she really cared about me and did her best to give me the best possible haircut. During our mini consultation, she told me exactly how she was gonna cut my hair. I wanted about 5 inches off the bottom which was damaged and starting to look thin and stringy. She made my subtle layers more connected, and added texture so that it would look nice if I ran my fingers through my hair(which I do often since I don’t have bangs). Throughout my experience, she gave me multiple styling tips, and things I could do on my own to prevent further hair damage. I LOVED the cut in the end — def one of the best I’ve ever gotten. It was a bit pricey — $ 68 sans tip but every dollar was worth the experience and outcome that Lisa was able to provide!

I’ve been a regular at J’s for over 7 years. Lisa has always been my goto stylist, she’s attentive & always listens to my hair concerns. She’s very patient & makes sure to do what u like before proceeding. I used to have bangs & only she knows how to cut them right. I’m super picky & its hard for me to let anyone touch my hair. One thing that keeps me coming back is that Lisa is very reassuring & I don’t need to worry about the stylist doing something I’ll dislike. She is also very knowledgeable & participates in hair shows routinely which demonstrates her up to date skills. The entire team is also polite & nice here, which makes it a nice atmosphere to have your hair done. I highly recommend doing color here as I’ve done color elsewhere which made my hair considerably fall out. I can feel the difference when I do color here as my scalp doesn’t feel as damaged. If you’re a picky person looking for a great salon, J’s won’t disappoint!

They may be really good at what they are doing and etc, but the service here is beyond H O R R I B L E! They do not care at all about their costumers. Even to book an appointment, I had to keep calling for an hour+ because no one answered. And even to get a haircut you have to wait 2 weeks to a month, FOR A FREAKING, MISERABLEHAIRCUT!!! And sometimes after all that wait is not even with the professional you booked with. They let their«students» do the work. HAVE A LITTLEBITOFCONSIDERATIONPLEASE. It’s not worth going through all this just to get a haircut, there’s other places with professionals equally, if not better, as good as the professionals here. I would give zero stars if I could.

A haircut cost me 79!!! That’s not worth especially with poor skill. I will never return to there again. I was hide’s customer, after hide left I decided the lady(she might be the owner with very long hair) to cut my hair. It was super expensive. If people really love Japanese style haircut. I recommend you should go to J town not here. Here is Horrible.

Yui didn’t even show up for my appointment!!! When I was waiting there for half hour, no one bother to tell me what is going on. So I asked Lisa’s assistant where Yui is. They finally called Yui to see where she was. They made a lame excuse about Yui had a car problem last week, so probably she was having the same problem again. Lisa is nice enough to take me in since I really need a haircut. Yui finally showed up after an hour. She came to apologize, so I asked her if her car is ok. She told me her car was fine, she just didn’t feel good, so she couldn’t call the salon. She is so irresponsible! If she couldn’t come to work, just make the call. I had to wait an hour for nothing ! She just ruin my mood for a whole day.

I’m so disappointed. After hide cut my hair. I looked ten years older. Ugly hair style. Even my friends think so. It’s not worth the money at all. I will never come again! By the way, the service is suck. When I went inside, a woman showed a very unhappy face.

Lisa is my hair’s best friend. Lisa is the best, she is not afraid to tell me what she really thinks(despite what I wanted), and I am happy to say that I’ve never went home disappointed going with her advise. With her, I can confidently try different styles and not having to worry about the results. What I like about her the most is how she always make my hair easily manageable when I style it at home myself.

I have been coming to J’s Hair for almost 10 years now. I usually look for Hide or Lisa, their styles are different but both of them are great. They take the time to listen what you wanted and explain the process in detail. Make sure you make appointment ahead of time as Hide and Lisa are usually booked up for weeks. It’s a little bit pricey than regular hair salons, but it’s totally worth it!

This is hands down the best hair salon in the Los Angeles area in terms of quality for price. It is priced somewhere between the cheap Asian haircut places in Monterey Park(typically $ 20 – 30 for a woman’s haircut at a decent place) and the expensive LA celebrity studios($ 200 – 300 for a cut). At $ 50 – 60 for a haircut, Lisa and Hide are both excellent artisans and do careful, precise work and design. Their haircuts last a long time and hold up the styles without a trim(I know, I know – I’m supposed to get a trim every 4 – 6 weeks!) for months, keeping decent shape regardless of how I maintain it(or don’t). There’s plenty of movement and shape and support in the styles, and Lisa and Hide are always accommodating to what your vision is. What this comes down to is this: if you are the kind of person who spends only $ 20 – 30 for a woman’s haircut(as I was before I came here), this will seem way too expensive for you. However, the haircuts here are on par with the quality of the expensive Hollywood studios for sure, so you are getting an incredible deal for what you get. Be prepared with cash – it’s cash only and there aren’t too many easily accessible banks in the area. Call ahead and when making your appointment(both Hide and Lisa can be booked up for weeks), ask for a quote so that you bring enough cash for the style and the tips.

Precision cut by Lisa who is hard to book so I have my alternatives that I go to. But I always end up back in her chair after all these years. Her prices went up to $ 63, FYI.

I don’t regularly get a haircut(in fact, the last time I cut my hair was the first time in about 4 years) so I don’t really know anything about hair salons. So when I decided it was finally time to cut my hair, I asked my friends. A couple of them had come here and recommended it, and it seemed like it had good Unilocal reviews, so I decided to give them a try. I called ahead and made my appointment and then finally came in. They’re located in a plaza with several other businesses which means they have a large parking lot – very convenient. It’s also down the street from 85C Bakery which is a plus ;) Everyone I interacted with here was really nice and friendly. Ayano Otani was my stylist and she was pretty nice. I feel like there was a slight language barrier between us though :/Oh and they give you a membership card here but I’m not really sure what it does. Since I hadn’t cut my hair in a very long time, it had obviously grown pretty long. I wanted to donate my hair, but J’s Studio doesn’t do hair donations. They will, however, tie up and cut it so that it can be donated, but they’ll give it to you in a bag for you to take and mail yourself. Which was fine; turns out it’s a really easy process to donate to Locks of Love. So Ayano did a great job with cutting my hair. I didn’t really have any specifics on how it should be styled; I just wanted it layered and thinned. It seemed like she did a decent job then, but my hair is just so thick she didn’t really make a dent. It was back to its normal thickness the next day :/ Overall though, it was a pretty good experience. A bit pricey though, but I can’t complain since I didn’t spend any money on hair salons for four years: P

Cash only: l This is a great haircut place! Albeit a bit expensive if you get your hair cut a lot, but that’s the price you pay for a great haircut. I’ve been here twice now(both for haircuts) and I’ll continue to come here because they have good skill. I suppose I’m a little bit of a difficult customer because I don’t even know what the hell to do with my hair most of the time –_– lol so my direction isn’t too clear. Haha I’ve been seeing Ayano and she’s so sweet I really like her. She listens to what I want and does try to give me the haircut she thinks I want because I never remember to bring a picture or anything of the haircuts I like. And the haircut always somehow manages to come out cute! Lol I guess that’s the mark of a good stylist. I did want an edgier haircut last time I went and I think my stylist didn’t really know what I wanted so it didn’t come out edgy, but it still came out really cute. I’d recommend to bring a picture of the haircut you want and they’ll make it very similar to what you want. Also depending on the stylist the haircuts are range from $ 47−55+ I believe. Haircuts for men are around $ 42 – 52, pricey but depends on your haircut too. Say you have a buzzcut, don’t come here. If you have a fobier hair cut(sorry for generalizing, haha) that needs more cuts and maintenance I guarantee you’ll walk out of here looking like k-pop star. This is a Japanese owned store, very good with asian hair!

Just so all you Unilocalers know, J’ Hair Studio is no longer located in City of Industry. They moved down a couple of blocks to Rowland Heights! I agree with Brandom A: TRYMICHELLE!!! She is indeed very awesome. She has been doing my hair for about four years now. I trust no one else. When I first came to J, I had Lisa as my stylist, but then I got sick of waiting months for an appointment with her. Also, whenever she was cutting my hair, she would pause and then go work on somebody else for a while and then come back and resume my hair cut. Some Tips: –It’s polite to tip the hair stylist at least 20%. –When they wash your hair, they give you a blanket and put a piece of cloth over your face. At first, I thought the cloth on my face was a little creepy, but it was actually pretty relaxing. –No credit cards, only cash. –Ask for a stamp card!!! You can get a discount after a certain number of cuts. –Michelle is the way to go! =]
