I visited this location for Performance Bicycle last weekend and was quite impressed. While I was merely browsing, I was asked if I needed help multiple times as I walked through. In some places, this can be annoying, but in a cycle shop it was kind of refreshing to have that many different people offering to help me. They did have lots of stock that was hard to find elsewhere and a HUGE supply of different bicycles. Their accessories selection was quite nice as well. My wife picked up some new mountain bike tires(it was time… It had been 11 years since her last set!). They had exactly what she was looking for… Our home shop could have ordered them in, but it was just nice to see it in person and have some options. I did notice that some of the reviews said staffing could be iffy… If it helps, Saturday was a great day to visit.

This store makes me wish there was a fractional stars option. There are a lot of things I like about this specific store, but it’s not without its(usually minor) faults. The good: Performance’s return policy/satisfaction guarantee: Check their site for specifics, but I’ve never had issues with returns, defective parts, or something just not quite working out that they weren’t happy to fix. The bike mechanics: Kevin(the head tech and all around awesome guy) and the other mechanics provide quality work at great turn around times. I’ve personally walked in with a badly out of true wheel and had things taken care of while I shopped around the store! Selection: You won’t be buying your boutique bikewear, carbon fiber wonder parts, or high end suspension here, but if you need a chain, shifters, brake pads, or even tools they have you covered. The house brand components and tools are usually good quality for the price. The bad: SUPER inconsistent staffing/sales service: Some days you walk right in and are greeted by friendly staff who are eager(and knowledgeable), other days you walk in and the only guy you can find is the mechanic in the back. I’ve had days where I literally had to wait over five minutes to pay for my items. The neutral: «Sale» Prices: If it’s not on sale this week, especially house brand/performance exclusive gear, consider waiting a few days and it will almost certainly drop in price. Performance loves rotating what’s on sale. Team Performance membership: They like to push joining their buyer’s club, and it can be worth if you’re buying a lot of stuff. It’s about $ 30/year and you get at least 10% back in store credit, sometimes more if it’s a promotional weekend. The bikes: They sell bikes across a LOT of price points. A lot of the lower priced bikes are specced for impressive data sheets/inexperienced customers WOW factor. I’ve never seen anything mechanically dangerous/unsound roll out the door, but there are definitely a few products that I would not recommend. Fortunately, the staff really seems like they want to get people out riding and will steer buyers towards the most bike for their budget. Worst case scenario, you can always use that performance guarantee to get something better.

The longest wait to buy one item. Salespeople not friendly. Wasted an hour of my time.

My wife and I bought our bikes from them last year and we were very impressed with their knowledge and friendliness. We did not get top of the line bikes but we upgraded what we had and did so for a reasonable prices. We love the loyalty program. The manager was incredibly helpful and we have enjoyed our bikes. Looking forward to a new season with the bikes, improving my performance and learning more about the proper way to ride.

Lee is the best!!! He has white hair and a pony tail, so it’s hard to miss him. Seriously, this guy knows what he is talking about– and he is so generous with his help and time. He took his time with us, gave us his undivided attention, and thoroughly explained everything. You can tell he has a heart that wants to make the customer satisfied and he is a bike riding enthusiast! You must go see him at Performance Bike if you need a bike or anything bike related!

Performance Bikes is a good bike shop in a great location for me. I stopped in for a new seat, new helmet, and a few impulse purchases. I was quickly helped by a pretty knowledgeable sales person. He was able to help me figure out the best seat option for me and directed me around the store to everything I was looking for. He was also very friendly and funny, which I appreciated. However — I knocked one star off due to the lack of womens’ specific items. In the multiple rows of bicycle seats, there were only 2 or 3 options for women. There were only 2 female bike helmet options(although, I realize a helmet does not necessarily need to be male/female specific). I will definitely spend more money at Performance, and I enjoy the store and the employees, but I do wish there were a few more options for women.

I’m a casual cyclist, and Performance Bicycle is the bike shop for me. My husband and I both bought reasonably-priced bikes here(I don’t consider $ 700 reasonable for my needs– sorry serious cyclists!). We worked with the manager the first time we came in, and he helped us learn about bikes and what we were looking for. Neither of us had owned a bike since we were kids, so we were pretty clueless. The real reason for the 5-star rating is their service department. Both service techs I’ve worked with are super friendly, listen and are passionate about bike craftsmanship. I brought my bike in twice for minor issues within two weeks of buying it, and they addressed the problems for free with no hassles. Finally, I’ve found their accessory prices to be comparable to online resources. I admit to comparison shopping the Nutcase helmet I tried on in the store, but I found out Performance Bike had it for the same price and ended up buying it there.

After a taxing and exhausting search for my first real bike since I was a teenager, I finally took up the suggestion of my Girlfriend’s uncle to try this place out. Really glad I listened. Before coming to Performance, I tried almost every facet imaginable to get my hands on a decent road/commuter bike to get around the city. Big Box stores were impressionable, and sometimes rude, with two bikes from Target breaking on me. Montgomery was ok, but their prices were a little more than I wanted to spend and at times I felt like I was treated as a second class citizens for being a bike rookie. Buying a bike should not be as hard as buying a car, about to give up hope and buy a scooter or Rollerblades, I finally went to Performance. Wish I would have just went there first. I was greeted by several helpful, friendly associates who helped me find what I was looking for. They pointed me to a standard commuter/hybrid bike that was on sale! In fact it just wasn’t on sale, but it was on clearance and it was an extra percentage off for some kind of super semi-annual sale. Score! Not only were the bikes on sale, but everything in the store was on sale! I was able to get a sweet set of fenders, kick stand, and back rack all for less than the standard bare bones commuter/hybrids found at Mongomery and elsewhere. The Spin Doctors, the bike fixer people in the back, were able to Pimp my bike out at no extra cost. In fact the way the bike was configured, it made getting the fenders on a challenge, but they thanked me and said it wasn’t a problem because they love challenges. In addition to all of this, I was able to buy a warranty plan that included 2 tune ups, 2 gear cleanings, and 4 tire changes all for around 80 bucks. This in theory sounds good, but I’ll post later to see what happens. The only foreseeable problem is that I live in KY. So in short, if you are a rookie/amateur/deal shopper then Performance is your place. I literally got a brand new bike with a warranty package and 50 Bike Bucks for the price that I would have paid at Montgomery or elsewhere for just a basic bike without any features. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The store seemed to be well stocked and the prices fair, the cheapest set of fenders that I have seen anywhere. All in all a fantastic shopping experience and would recommend to anyone.

Performance is the place you head if you need something for your bike on a Saturday night when your LBS is closed. I’ve never found this shop to be particularly friendly or helpful, but they have a decent selection of parts and accessories and have good hours which makes it convenient.
