Well worth getting up early for. Since I had never been, I had the woman working there pick some out for me. It was perfect. I brought them to work and everyone feel in love with them. The smell alone was to die for. The selection is just as amazing as the doughnuts themselves. I’m definitely going to be back. The only bad thing is, it’s 5min down the street from me so I will have to test my restraint for my waistline’s sake.

Stopped in yesterday to pick up a treat for a local client! This place is everything the reviews say and more. The most beautiful delicious donuts ever! And the person working behind the counter couldn’t have been nicer! If you haven’t been there, you are missing out!

There are very few things I am willing to sacrifice an extra five minutes of sleep for on a weekday morning. I will be adding making a donut pit stop at Marcella’s to that extremely short list. If you’re not careful, you might miss this place completely. It’s in the Clough Shops shopping center, wedged between Sheryl’s Hair Salon and Willows Floral and Gifts. I think this is a somewhat new outpost for Marcella’s(original store is in Amelia), so they don’t have a sign up above the door yet. Now to the important stuff… The selection was to die for. There were donuts as far as the eye could see! A large variety, including yeast donuts with lots of toppings and various filled donuts — plus«specialty» items, which includes cinnamon rolls, pastries, and cronuts! Yes, cronuts, which are a beautiful and elusive croissant-donut hybrid, previously(to the best of my donut-scouting knowledge) unavailable in Cincinnati. The donuts all looked fresh, giant and fluffy. I tried the cronut(obviously) and my life changed for the better. All other donuts and croissants are dead to me now. The prices were also rave-worthy. My cronut set me back less than $ 2.00. The sweet lady working there filled me in on the pricing structure for future reference — it’s basically a dollar a donut if you’re buying a dozen, with specialty donuts costing a little more. They have a $ 5.00 minimum for credit cards, so either stock up(recommended) or bring cash. There weren’t many coffee options here, I think I saw some brewed/drip coffee, but probably not a place to go for a super fancy latte or macchiato. Bottom line: you donut want to miss this place!

It was still dark when I got out of bed. Like it was barely 6am. OMG What is wrong with me? I’ll tell you. I keep seeing the ad for Marcella’s donuts. I had to go. This was my first time going here. I got lost and ended up way out in the middle of nowhere. Like it’s really easy to find. It’s in a shopping plaza. I can’t really see to drive in the dark, so I was focused on trying not run into a ditch or something. Well, good thing, because I didn’t run into a ditch. I did drive past the donut shop, though, and I kept driving and driving. No big deal. I finally turned around and found the shop. The sun was rising by then. Look, it’s really easy to find. I suggest looking at a map first. Are the doughnuts good? Yes Are the doughnuts the best? Yes Would it be worth making a special trip just to go to Marcella’s? Yes OMG the donuts. OMG they are so good. They’re so good. These are the best donuts. Are there better donuts in the world? I don’t care. These donuts are amazing. The pastry part is perfect. Like the texture is just what you want a donut to be. They aren’t greasy. They aren’t covered in over-sweet garbage to hide a bad donut. OMG But they have good toppings. They’re perfect. The lady told me they don’t usually run out of donuts, but sometimes they do on the weekends. So I didn’t need to get out of bed so early. Okay, so I’ve won the donut lottery. I live really close, but not so close that I’ll get fat. PMS will never be the same.

Heard about this place from some bodybuilder friends. This was the first thing they wanted to eat post competition after months of dieting. I wasn’t disappointed, other donuts just don’t compare. My one complaint is that I’m not an early riser and often they are cleaned out before I get there.

In fairness to Marcella I’ve only ever had her donuts about 8 hours after they’ve been made and sat around all day. And they’re still the best damn donuts I’ve ever had. Yes, that includes Holtman’s, yes that includes fresh«red light on» Krispy Kremes, Busken, whatever you want to put up against them. Marcella has consistently delivered amazing tasting donuts with a huge variety and selection, at great prices. Cake or yeast, glazed, dipped, drizzled, fritters, filled, jelly, custard, whatever the hell you’re looking for — they do it and they do it very very well. I’m not a big sweets guy, rarely eating donuts to begin with, but sometimes the urge strikes — and Marcella is more than capable of hitting the spot with these awesome donuts. If I needed a few dozen for an event or hungry fam, I would hit her up first thing in the morning — get the best selection before the hungry mobs get there. Because trust me, if they keep turning out donuts like this there will be hungry mobs!

I heard about this place from someone on Twitter, that Marcella’s dad started Holtman’s and uses that recipe. Since everyone is crazy for Holtman’s these days(and I say that having been long familiar with the Holtman’s in Loveland/Goshen) I thought I’d check this place out. I saw on the reviews for the Amelia location that someone complained the prices are too high, if you’re looking for cheap grocery store quality donuts, you’re not going to find it here. These are dense, delicious, fresh, and satisfying doughnuts! I wish this location all the best in serving delicious treats!
