When the rest of your friends are out riding the hills of Cincinnati on scooters and you find yourself in a 1969 Ford rape van, what do you want to do? Drink? I’d say so. So you ask some locals where to go on a bright, shiny Saturday to find some bloody Marys and a juke box and a few of them say, «Happy Hollow, buddy». So you get out your GPS and you find that the Hollow is tucked away on a residential street — until that residential street opens up to a big parking lot and an old, brick, porch-havin’ house sitting all by its lonesome. If it weren’t for the neon Busch and Happy Hollow signs, we’d have thought we were at your granddad’s. A Bloody and a can of local brew was $ 5. No food, but there’s a grill on the po’ch so if you brought your own meat, I’m pretty sure they’d let you fire it up. LOTS of country on the juke, but then again we were about 10 minutes from the Kentucky border so fair enough. They had some Patsy, Elvis, Conway and Alabama to counteract the«I Love This Bar» variety, fortunately. Clean bathrooms, darts and billiards and very nice bartenders who put up with four obnoxious scooter enthusiasts in a creepy van for a few hours. Win.
