Carrousel is in the decrepit Cincinnati neighborhood of Roselawn whose best days clearly have passed. Carrousel itself sits in an odd little attached building with an abandon motel in the shadows of dozens of other failed or failing businesses in Roselawn. But Carrousel perseveres on.
Carrousel is remains as it probably has for decades now. The business of a couple pipe enthusiasts where others like them are able to gather, trade stories & restock. Though very small in square footage, Carrousel has it where it counts. Cases are stocked with inventory of all types and price ranges. For the pipe enthusiast, Carrousel has a tremendous selection of estate pipes starting in the $ 20s. A good selection of new pipes from great brands are available at reasonable prices, as well. In all, I’d guess they have 150 – 200 pipes in stock. Accessories, lighters, tampers and such are available at fair prices, too. And, of course, a dozen or so varieties of tobacco at bulk rates are for sale as well as manufactured branded tins.
The finest feature of Carrousel is the thoughtful advice from the owner-​operators. They know pipes, tobacco & cigars and are friendly about advice of all sorts. They’re always more than happy to share a taste of a tobacco you might be interested in or even the provenance of an estate pipe you’ve picked up. It’s clear that many customers stop by Carrousel simply to chat and enjoy a morning’s paper with a smoke.
Tobacconists are a dwindling breed all across the US. In Cincinnati, you don’t have a lot of choice, but the choices you do have are, fortunately, quite good. Carrousel is a fine supplier of both pipes & tobacco and a great place for both newbies & old briar hands to drop by.
