Miss this place. The dogs were really good and they had a large variety of them. Downside was whenever I stopped in, hardly anyone was here.

Please save yourself the trouble, heartburn & money… just go to Costco down the street for a hot dog. For $ 1.50 you can get a drink & hot dog in a matter of a couple minutes. I ordered a corn dog, Chimi dog & drink {$ 9 later} and it just SUCKED!!! PLUS it took about 40 minutes before I got my whole order. When I did, the corn dog was nothing special, a Foster Farm corn dog. You think if I had to wait 25 minutes for something, it was going to be hand dipped. Wow… lame. NEVERAGAIN!!!

The wife showed up to the house the other day with some hotdogs the size of your arm. D-licious. The woman said they had like 20+ different styles. I’ll have to try all of them. By the way, she brought me two of them. I told her that I am aware of my fat-ness but that two is redonkulous.

My search for the BESTHOTDOG in SANDIEGO is finally over!!! And the DOGRUN restaurant across from Southwestern College has the BESTHOTDOGS in town PERIOD!!! I know that’s a BOLD statement, but when you really look at it, what other restaurants number one item in San Diego«is the hot dog.» This little hidden gem has some of the tastiest, well prepped hot dogs in town. Everything is fresh and the taste is pure heaven. I’ve come by here a couple of times JUSTTOTRYOUT some of their dogs, because after the first hot dog I ever ate here(the Chicago Dog,) I simply fell in love with the place. First, let me tell you about the Chicago Dog… it’s huge and loaded with fresh delicious flavors. But what stood out to me the most was it’s relish. It didn’t have that ugly green look that you see in most relishes. As a matter of fact, this relish was fresh from scratch and had a very fresh green look to it, and the taste was like heaven on a hot dog. One of the best relishes, I’ve ever tasted on a hot dog. They have other hot dogs that are just as good. On other days, I’ve come by for lunch and tried out the Teriyaki Dog. And on another, I’ve had the Chimi Dog. Both hot dogs are a pure delight to eat… The Teriyaki Dog is loaded with Asian flavors and the Chimi Dog reminds you a lot of a Chimichanga… only on a hot dog. You can’t go wrong with either one of these hot dogs. Last, I want to talk about the TJDOG. I use to think that the BESTTJDOG I ever ate was at a USC’s(University of Southern California) football game. The Dog Run’s TJDOG is just as good if not better. Trust me, I’ve tasted a lot of TJ Hot Dog pretenders around San Diego and the TJ Dog simple ROCKS at the Dog Run. Cooked to perfection, wrapped in bacon, loaded with sauteed veggies and salsa. it’s a TJ Dog made right! In closing, I have nothing but Hi-Props to the Dog Run Restaurant. It is in my opinion, THEBESTHOTDOGSHOP in SANDIEGO. 5 Stars!!!

The manfriend and I stopped by here the other day. We randomly spotted it(it’s in a bad location) and decided to stop in. It’s obviously family-owned and the guy behind the counter(who I suspect was the owner) was extremely kind, and acted very grateful for our business. The hot dogs were HUGE and delicious! I ordered the Chicago-style(yummy yummy!) and the manfriend ordered the philly-style dog which was also delicious. We also got fries and drinks, all for $ 15 bucks. I’m giving it 5 stars mainly because it is a family-run, locally owned, super yummy place, and you can’t get much better than that!

It’s kind of hard to notice this restaurant since it’s sandwiched between an autoshop and a dentist. Luckily, I spotted the name when I was leaving MJ’s Yogurt & Deli yesterday. Me and the wife ended up ordering the famous TJ Dog, the Big Islander Teriyaki Dog, and the Chili Cheese Dog. The TJ Dog was alright. Me and the wife cut it in half to share and didn’t realize ’til a little after we started eating that it was missing the bacon but we didn’t feel like going back for it since we were almost done. The Big Islander Dog came with onions, green bell pepper, pineapples, and a sweet teriyaki sauce. The pineapples and the teriyaki sauce’s sweetness perfectly balanced out the saltiness of the hot dog and the bell peppers and onions gave it a nice crunch. We didn’t even get a chance to eat our Chili Cheese Dog since we were both full from the two previous hot dogs so we got a container and took it home. The prices here are pretty cheap so it’s easy to get full and not spend so much money at the same time which is always a plus. The service here was standard. The man behind the counter kindly waited while we decided what we wanted and even brought it to our table afterwards. The restaurant itself was pretty warm inside. Me and the wife thought we’d be eating in an air conditioned space but boy were we wrong. Oh, and the restaurant doesn’t have a restroom inside either. It’s kind of odd since they serve a lot of chili but doesn’t have a restroom readily available… Lol Anyways, this restaurant is pretty cool. I’d come back again to try the rest of the menu and I’d definitely recommend it to family and friends if they’re feelin’ a dog run.

This place is über yummy! My husband and I weren’t quite sure what to expect, and we definitely have no regrets. I had the NY Style Dog(sauerkraut, onions, mustard) and hubby got the Spicy Polish Dog(onions, jalapenos, mushrooms, and some other stuff), both equally delicious! Their hot dogs are humungous, and so are their warm and moist hot dog buns. The toppings are piled on and the hotdog, itself, is so flavorful on its own. We also shared an order of chili-cheese nachos, which was so humungous that we couldn’t even finish it. And my husband usually finishes everything! Prices are also cheap, we definitely will return! I’ve got my eye on the Chicago Dog for next time, and the hubs is peepin’ the Seattle Dog(cream cheese with sriracha aaaand… something else). See you soon, Dog Run! P. S. did I mention they have funnel cake???

This is a hard one. I’m torn between 2 and 3 stars. I am a long time fan of this place. I cannot believe I haven’t Unilocaled them! but here goes The Great — The owner is awesome The Good — The bacon Ranch Fries The Bad — Service is slippin’ The Ugly — Quality is slippin’. When the dog run was newer greeting customers with a friendly face and being proud of the food was key. The staff beleived in smiling, maintaining eye contact and bringing your food to your table. As time went by, the newer staff didn’t find it important to express customer service. Now, they do not bring your food to your table, and I think the guy working the store when we last visited was sleeping at the table before we walked in. Any phone in order guaranteed missing ingredients. And now the bread is either frozen or refrigerated for too long making it tough. Alas — they’ve gotten too comfortable I guess! Hopefully they turn it around.

Okay, so before I go on with my review, I’ll let you know that I’m from LA and am a fan of Tommy’s chili dogs, so I’ll be comparing it to that. Anyway, I was heavyweight craving a chili dog from Tommy’s, but didn’t know where to get a chili dog in San Diego so I Unilocaled the Dog Run. I’ve seen it and passed it so many times because I go to Lollicup religiously, but my cravings brought me in. So I stopped by on my way home. First impression of the place is the is cute and definitely mom and pop. The two guys working at the time were welcoming and friendly. Also, I really liked the variety of hot dog toppings and that they offered a dessert menu. I ordered two chili cheese dogs with onions, mustard, and a pickle spear on the side. I ordered to-go and it took less than five minutes for my order to be ready(it also probably has to do with the lack of customers at the time). Nonetheless, I grabbed my food and drove home to bring to my brother. I had one too of course. Upon opening the take-out box, I noticed that the cheese wasn’t fresh(it looked like shredded cheese you buy in a plastic bag at the grocery store) nor was it melted. I think the heat of the chili was supposed to melt it. It wasn’t that successful. The first bite was fine. I think I was too excited to eat, haha! Although the hot dog, bun, or chili wasn’t warm. Maybe it lost its heat during the 5 minute car drive? To be honest, I’m not even sure the cook let the hot dog heat all the way through. I don’t know, but I didn’t let it stop me. Second bite, I noticed that the dog was saltier than I’d have liked it to be and that they’re kind of light on the mustard. I should’ve taken up their offer on extra packets. Now, onto the chili. The chili was alright. It wasn’t rich and filling like Tommy’s chili is, but it kept its thick consistency. I finished the dog and here I am. All in all, the chili cheese dog was filling but not incredible. Maybe when I’m craving it again, I’ll eat in and see if my experience will be better.

This time around I took no chances and played it safe. I ordered their famous TJ Dog. After ordering their Ultimate Philly Dog last time, I feel that the TJ Dog is definitely one of their stronger choices. It has bacon, grilled onions, bell peppers, diced tomatoes, mayo, mustard and«sauce». The TJ Dog was presented in a very colorful way from all the toppings. I’m not a huge fan of mustard; I’m more of a ketchup enthusiast, but I do love the kick that mustard gives. As for the«sauce», it honestly tasted like the hot sauce packets from Taco Bell, but I didn’t mind. In fact, I felt that the sauce was the cherry on top of a perfect dog.

I had the chili cheese dog. It’s an all beef 8 inch hot dog, smothered in delicious chili and chopped onions or if you like them grilled, you can have them that way too served with cheese and mustard. I had mine without the mustard. I got the combo which includes fries and a drink. Nice family owned business and they make the hot dogs fresh so you have to wait a little bit to get your meal, but it’s worth it. Make sure you get lots of napkins, because they are nice and messy. I had to use a knife and fork for my chili cheese dawg. Mmm messy! They also have a Turkey, Ripper, Nacho Cheese & Jalapeño, NY Style, Bacon, BBQ Bacon, Corn Dog, Ultimate Philly, Spicy Polish, Famous TJ, Chicago Style, Teriyaki and the Chimi Dog. Plus you can create your own hot dog with the various toppings they have. They also have chili to go and funnel cakes for your sweet tooth. I will definitely be back here. Hot dogs are about $ 1.50 to $ 5.00 depending on what you get and a combo(fries and drink) will cost you an extra $ 2.25. Open from 11:00AM to 9:30PM Week nights, and open until 10PM on Friday and Saturday. Sunday’s they close earlier at 6PM.

If you like hot dogs, give this spot a try if you’re in the area. Drove past here a few times and finally decided to drop in to try a hot dog. Boy was it a great idea, I had the TJ dog and I have to admit, it was filling and darn good. The size of the hot dog was well worth the price. All the ingredients in this hot dog blended real well together. My only drawback about the hot dog, was that I wish the bacon that wrapped the hot dog was more crisp. That’s just personal preference, but I like my bacon close to being burnt. I will definitely be back to try more of their other hot dogs. Not to mention the customer service was one been one of the best I have experienced. It’s the little things that make the biggest difference. During my visit, the employee had made a mistake with another customers order. He acknowledged the mistake even before giving the customer his hot dog and mentioned that they would be re-making his hot dog correctly, but he can still have the hot dog that only had 1 ingredient different for free. It’s these type of places where the employees show that they really do care about the service and the product they are selling. On another note, just a recommendation to anyone who works at The Dog Run: I once had a hot dog at El Dorado in the back patio where people smoke and they added cream cheese along with the condiments. I would definitely recommend this condiment on a hot dog. I hope somehow and someway, The Dog Run would incorporate a Hot Dog that has cream cheese in the ingredients.

Oh yes. I can appreciate the mind of whoever created the chimi dog. I had the Ulitmate Philly Dog and the Chimi Dog. Those were the only two items on this menu I just HAD to try right away. I’ve had hotdogs from NY, TJ and Chicago so I figured I wasn’t gonna miss much. And since the room in my tummy is so limited I dare not waste any precious space! Both were delicious. The philly dog was basically what you could imagine. A great dog on a soft bun topped off with the usual fixings of that on a philly cheesesteak sammich:(plenty of) cheese, onions, bellpeppers, mushrooms, etc. The Chimi Dog is basically a couple hotdogs nicely wrapped up in a tortilla and covered in sauce and cheese. I think what really makes their dogs great, is the quality of the dog, not to mention the decent size. Everything’s made to order in an(somewhat) open kitchen and they offer a lot of variety including desserts. Clean establishment and extremely reasonable prices. This place was not over the top for me, but it is pretty darn good and DEFINITELY worth the try! Happy eating! :D~

They have a variety of hot dogs which are delicious and cheap ! YUMMM! Im pretty sure the guy behind the register is the owner, he is very friendly and has great customer service. It is across from SWC college, by the Oil and Tire Station or whatever it is, next to the Dunn Edwards. Support a local business Unilocalers !

Environment: 3⁄5 — This is a small lil’ joint. To get here I suggest you park in the bigger lot BEHIND it(near the Wingstop), as the parking in front of it is hard to get in/out of. There was a TV inside and obviously it smelled like delicious hot dogs. Food: 3.5÷5 — I came here with one friend and we got the same thing: the Ultimate Philly Dog. For some reason though my hot dog had more cheese and less onions and his had almost no cheese but was covered in onions. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but it was sloppily prepared. I AM going to come back and try their other dogs though — they all sound too good to pass up. Service: 3⁄5 — Average. The guy who took our order also made our dogs and he kind of seemed to not care much about anything. He had this stoic look on his face like he was ready to just leave. I’m sure he wasn’t stressed from customers — there were probably 4 other people inside and then me and my friend. Overall: 3⁄5 — Definitely going to come back and try their other dogs, but it’s not a place I’m going to go out and immediately tell my friends about. If I’m in the area again I’ll stop by though. Truly a hidden gem though, I mean… I can’t think of another place to get a real good hot dog.

Hidden gem doesn’t begin to describe this spot. We’re talk Bin Laden in caves hard to find down in Chula Vista. If you do happen to stumble upon The Dog Run though a USA chant may certainly feel necessary. It did to me. These wieners are definitely worth tweeting across the country about. They’re plump and juicy, but that hardly tells the tale of how awesome they are. With an array of flavors from the always classic, TJ to the Chimi(basically the love child of an enchilada and a hot dog) you’ll think you’ve died and gone to the tastiest heaven you could ever imagine. Try the Philly, the Chimi, and the TJ, and thank me later… Dawgs!

Holy jeebus I’ve been waiting for a specialty hot dog place in the south bay and unknowingly my hopes have been answered. I’ve always loved hot dogs and specifically ones that aren’t just your typical mustard/ketchup/kraut/relish dogs and the closest thing was Hot Dogs @ 429 in downtown and while that place tasted good after a night of bar hopping I wouldn’t go there just for lunch due to parking and overall busy atmosphere of downtown during the day. I ordered the TJ Dog and the Chicago Dog and boy were these delicious. The TJ Dog was not greasy and just very flavorful with each bite. The Chicago Dog though I can’t say how it compares to an authentic one from the Windy City, it was very good as well. Fair warning though, those sport peppers were really juicy and I somehow managed to squeeze some of it onto my phone :(I did manage to clean it up without damage but just thought people should be aware. Its a shame I’ve moved on from SWC otherwise I’d be able to try everything else in a more timely fashion but I will definitely be back!
