I woke up this Beautiful Sunday morning thinking of donuts. I go to the first donut shop I see. Sunny donuts on Broadway in Chula Vista. I walk in to an empty store at 7:30 am. The lady approaches me and asks if she can help me. I want plain glazed donuts and there were about 5 on the shelf. I ask, when were those made? She says ‘ohhh, last night’. I said, will you be making more soon? She walks to the back room, I’m thinking to bring more donuts, and she YELLSFROMTHEBACKROOM. I’M BUSY. WHATDOYOUWANT!!!(mexican lady about 40ish) SHOCKED !!! I immediately walk out to find another place to spend my money. I go to YUMYUMDONUTS, was greeted by smiling workers, they had racks of fresh donuts, and it was CHEAPERTOO! I spent my hard earned money on a couple dozen! at YUMYUMDONUTS.

Nothing compare to the sunny donuts on highland ave. Bought 14 donuts and they all were old and dried out. What a waste of money. Looking forward to getting fresh donuts for my sis visiting from nebraska but ended up being the worst donuts. Disappointed and embarrassed. Trash they go

«I love this place! I grew up in Chula Vista and even though I no longer live there, I still stop by whenever I’m in the area. The donuts always taste fresh and their coffee is brewed regularly. My favorite donut would be the boston crème and their croissants(I’m a sucker for carbs). The staff is friendly every time I visit. Keep in mind that it’s cash only!(which can be a downside)»

This family owned donut shop is great. I always go in the morning when the donuts are fresh and delicious. They have a pretty good menu selection. My favorite donuts are the French cruller, sugar, and strawberry filled donut, but I also like their croissant sandwiches. The coffee is always fresh as well and the people are very friendly. They seem to have a lot of regulars that eat there and I can definitely see why.

I really like this donut shop. I’ve bought donuts here about 7 times and the donuts are always fresh. Customer service is great and I love the selection. The only negative remark I have is they don’t accept credit cards! Cash only! Orrrrrr… you can use the ATM that is inside the store and pay the high price usage fee. Come on… it’s the 21st century and you get enough business. Start accepting plastic please! Other than that, it’s allllll good.

This happened a few years ago but I will never forget it. The oriental lady who works there tries to play it stupid by pretending that she doesn’t understand English when she is confronted about something in the shop. I saw a RAT. yes, a RAT just running in and out of the pink doughnut boxes that are stacked openly under the doughnut display case behind the register. I didn’t want to alarm anyone and I went up to the woman and I whispered to her«there is a rat in your boxes». All she did was nod and smile at me and picked up the boxes where the rat has been playing in an continue to put doughnuts in them for customers. NOPE. NOPE. NOPE.

We were just there at 7:30. Only three donuts in the window for sale. It was a shame because we were buying a few dozen for a large sailing club meeting Sunday morning. The girl behind the counter told us that was all she had, but, as we left we saw trays of donuts sitting in the back. We will never go back. For others, don’t waste your time. There are much better donut shops just down the road. With better service. How can you have an open sign in the window and only have three donuts for sale?

I go here to get donuts for my co workers every once in a while… not necessarily because they’re the best in town, more so because it’s on the way. I leave for work pretty early, so it’s a plus that they’re open 24 hours, plus the price is pretty good. Personally, I think the donut selection is pretty sad, though it is a small shop in a grimyish neighborhood, so I guess that’s to be expected. My co workers have no complaints about the taste(but who does with free donuts), but I will say the only thing I’ve ever had from here is an apple fritter, and the dough in the middle was still raw. Overall, just a «meh» rating in my book.

I don’t know what happened to this doughnut shop because they used to make good donuts and had friendly customer service, but that’s not the case any longer. I have come on several occasions in the past few months and every single time there has been the same unfriendly lady working behind the counter who has always been extremely rude. On top of that the donut selection is minimal and there aren’t many choices to pick from because they only bring fresh donuts out in the early sunrise hours of morning. On my last visit at this particular Sunny all of the donuts and 1 muffin I had ordered tasted old and stale as if they had made them 2 days prior. I will only buy donuts from the National City Sunny Donuts from now on since Sunny chain does make a delicious powdered donut filled with crème of chocolate, strawberry or vanilla.

I especially like that they have a variety of doughnut holes… and not just plain glazed, but they have chocolate glazed, cinnamon, powdered, and my favorite… jelly filled powdered! I mean c’mon. where can you get a bite size jelly filled doughnut hole??? Perfect size for the little ones as well! Definitely happy to have found a good local doughnut shop… FINALLY!

Something besides a taco shop open until 1am?! No seriously, even at 12am the donuts still taste great. They’re soft and easy to bite through, not thick as heck and cakey like other places. The selection is big and is very clearly labeled. Selection gets kind of weak, though, as the hours dwindle down to nearing closing time. Prices are great too! Get a half dozen, a dozen, or even just one donut and you’re still paying less than $ 1. The lady at the counter was very nice even though she looked a little tired– thanks for being open so late! Their maple bars are huge and I love my maple bars. Definitely more bang for your buck compared to a place like Krispy Kreme. Be prepared because they take cash only. They do have an ATM in the corner but of course, it charges a fee.

I used to believe that Randy’s Donuts near LAX where the best and since I drive a truck all over I would always find the time to stop on my way… until I discovered sunny donuts… their plain cake regular donuts are the best for me, I always get 4 of them for my half dozen + 1 Free. The flavored ones are good too, specially the cinnamon powder covered, vanilla glazed and buttermilk. Service is good anytime of day and they always seem to go out of their way to give you the freshest donuts even if it takes going back to the oven area.

OK, so I’m not a huge fan of donuts, but I happen to work in a profession where donuts play an important part in the inner workings of the daily grind. Specifically, if you mess up, you have to bring donuts for everyone. Well, I messed up and discovered that Sunny Donuts was the perfect place to get myself out of trouble. I didn’t get the young lady’s name who helped me, but she was friendly and quick. They had a huge selection and everything looked and smelled great. They don’t take credit/atm cards, but they do have an atm inside, so no problem there. And they’re open until 1am. Anyway– I’m sure its only a matter of time before I’m in trouble again, and this is definitely where I’ll be going to find redemption.

Formerly Dunkin Donuts. You know, back in the 80s? On the corner of Broadway and I Street lie the best donuts ever! My dad would surprise us on Sunday morning with a box full from time to time. The assortment? Glazed, sprinkles, jelly and the rocks(they looked like rocks, but I think they were mini-coffee cakes). They are light and fluffy, not cakey and heavy like(Yum)^2. Ewweth! When I was little and felt the need to run away from home, I always said I would go there(open 24 hrs). I still go there and pick up a box for my family(½ glazed, ½ sprinkles, 1 rock for mom). For those that clip coupons, they take any competitor’s and validate them as theirs. Score!
